Bello details why Tinubu should not run for 2023 Presidency

The upcoming elections in 2023 have thrown up various permutations regarding the potential candidates vying for the Presidency, with the National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, amongst the names being touted.

This elicited a response from Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State who detailed why Tinubu should not succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

According to Bello in an interview with Daily Trust on Sunday, the leader of the APC would be convinced to support a young aspirant to succeed Buhari.

Senator Tinubu is one of our leaders and I respect him so much. He has played a very significant role in Nigeria’s democracy and has built a lot of people. He has paid his dues, and with all respect as a son to him, my simple advice is that it is time for him to allow his children to take over the mantle of leadership.

” And let us do it to the glory of God and his admiration. He should see that those children he raised are now doing well. Let him see how we would manage this country in his lifetime.

He has a right to contest, nobody is questioning that. I always urge everybody to respect him for the roles he has played in this country’s democracy. He is a man of integrity, to be candid,” the governor said.

Bello also spoke about the possibility of Tinubu breaking ranks with the APC if he fails to secure the party’s ticket.

“You don’t build a house and destroy it. I don’t think Tinubu would do that. I think he has grown past that. He is an elder statesman who will not say that the country should be destroyed in his lifetime, not even after his demise.

“So I don’t see him doing that. I don’t see that happening at all. I can speak for him, that at an appropriate time he will throw his weight behind a Nigerian youth to take over the leadership of this country while he would be behind the scene giving support as an elder statesman and one of the leaders of this party.”

Bello reveals how he handles security challenges in Kogi

The Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello on Thursday explained how he handles insecurity in his state, revealing that he does not go to Abuja for solutions.

The governor, who spoke on Thursday morning while appearing on Channels Television’s ‘Sunrise Daily’ programme, added that the stakeholders in the state collaborate with security agencies to analyse intelligence to forestall breakdown of law and order.

He said: “The Nigeria Police that are in the country today are the same in Kogi State. The Army in the country are the same in Kogi State. All the law enforcement agencies we have in the country today are exactly what I have in Kogi State.

We are corroborating, the commissioner of police, my director (of) DSS, my Army commander, my naval commander, civil defence commander, we are corroborating and they are relating very well with the citizens, they connected to the people and leadership at all levels are doing their best starting from the community leaders, ward leaders, the local government chairmen and leaders, youth leaders, market leaders, farmers and what have you. We are corroborating very well.

“So, when they provide such information, we act on it, we don’t pay lip service, we don’t pass buck, we don’t visit Abuja for solutions at all times. I don’t think there is any day I have ever visited Abuja for any solution. What I do is to sit down here (Kogi) and do my job.”

The governor spoke against the backdrop of current state of insecurity across the country with the seeming helplessness of state governors to nip it in the bud, as they keep running to the Federal Government for help.

Though Kogi has remained one of the hot beds of kidnapping and farmers/herdsmen crisis, Governor Bello believes his strategy has been effective.

Niger Assembly backs Bello for president, says it’s turn of North-Central

The Presidential ambition of Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State got a boost on Thursday as the Niger State House of Assembly endorsed him.

The Niger State lawmakers also said it was the turn of the North Central geopolitical zone to produce the next President of the country come 2023.

The assembly made the endorsement during a visit by the 25 members of the Kogi State House of Assembly led by their Speaker, Matthew Kolawole to the Assembly, to solicit support for Bello.

According to the lawmakers, it was time for the zone to come together to support Bello’s ambition, adding that as a young and vibrant governor, and with the ‘not too young to run bill’ already assented to by President Muhammadu Buhari, he remains the best candidate for the number one position in 2023.

With all the state lawmakers making contributions in support of Bello’s ambition, the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Bawa Wuse, said: “We must come together from the North Central states to support this laudable and worthy project for the benefit of the people of the North Central and Nigeria in general.

“We need somebody from the North Central for the Presidency in 2023, so since Governor Yahaya Bello has come out for now, he has our support, he has our endorsement and we will support him.”
