2023 PRESIDENCY: I’m more qualified than Tinubu, Osinbajo —Amaechi

The Former Minister of Transport and presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Rotimi Amaechi, has boasted that he is more qualified than the party’s National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to become Nigeria’s President in 2023.

Amaechi, who stated this on Wednesday, when he visited Kano as part of his consultative meetings with the party’s delegates ahead of the APC presidential primary, asserted that when Tinubu, who is a former Governor of Lagos State, has never been a Minister, and even when he was a lawmaker, it was for only a few months.

He went further to note that while he was a Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, Osinbajo was a Commissioner in Lagos State.

In response, the Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who carefully avoided endorsing his presidential ambition said: “I know your position as far as our party presidential candidature is concerned, and I want you to change for me.”

Ganduje had been reported to have also avoided endorsing the presidential ambition of the Rivers State Governor, and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nyesom Wike, when he visited the state.

The Kano Governor is said to be in full support of Tinubu’s presidential ambition.

Bello details why Tinubu should not run for 2023 Presidency

The upcoming elections in 2023 have thrown up various permutations regarding the potential candidates vying for the Presidency, with the National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, amongst the names being touted.

This elicited a response from Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State who detailed why Tinubu should not succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

According to Bello in an interview with Daily Trust on Sunday, the leader of the APC would be convinced to support a young aspirant to succeed Buhari.

Senator Tinubu is one of our leaders and I respect him so much. He has played a very significant role in Nigeria’s democracy and has built a lot of people. He has paid his dues, and with all respect as a son to him, my simple advice is that it is time for him to allow his children to take over the mantle of leadership.

” And let us do it to the glory of God and his admiration. He should see that those children he raised are now doing well. Let him see how we would manage this country in his lifetime.

He has a right to contest, nobody is questioning that. I always urge everybody to respect him for the roles he has played in this country’s democracy. He is a man of integrity, to be candid,” the governor said.

Bello also spoke about the possibility of Tinubu breaking ranks with the APC if he fails to secure the party’s ticket.

“You don’t build a house and destroy it. I don’t think Tinubu would do that. I think he has grown past that. He is an elder statesman who will not say that the country should be destroyed in his lifetime, not even after his demise.

“So I don’t see him doing that. I don’t see that happening at all. I can speak for him, that at an appropriate time he will throw his weight behind a Nigerian youth to take over the leadership of this country while he would be behind the scene giving support as an elder statesman and one of the leaders of this party.”

Olubadan of Ibadanland endorses Tinubu for 2023 presidency

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, on Saturday, declared his support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leader, Bola Tinubu, to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

The traditional ruler declared his support for Tinubu when Tinubu Vanguard, a pro-Tinubu political group, led by their Director-General, Dr. Johnny Benjamin, paid him a visit.

Olubadan described Tinubu as a good man whose stewardship as president would consolidate on the progressive agenda of the APC and propel Nigeria to the path of economic prosperity and sustainable development.

He said: “Tinubu is a good man and I will do everything within my power to support his candidacy for the 2023 presidential poll.”

On his own, Benjamin noted that the group was dedicated to ensuring that the Tinubu presidential mandate was actualised in the interest of national unity and cohesion.

Igbo leaders initiate moves for 2023 presidency, south-eastern security outfit

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Elders Council has mandated the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Professor George Obiozor, to begin immediate consultation with other ethnic groups in Nigeria, to actualise the goal of an Igbo president come 2023.

This was disclosed in a communique issued by the group after their meeting at the Government House in Owerri, on Saturday, hosted by the state Governor, Hope Uzodimma, alongside the Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, as well as representatives of other governors.

Speaking at the meeting, the group maintained that the year 2023 was the turn of the Igbos to provide the country’s president, and warned Igbo politicians to desist from speaking against zoning.

“The elders’ council mandated the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide to work with Igbo socio-political intelligensia to pursue the task of ensuring that Ala Igbo takes the turn in producing the next president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2023.

“The elders’ council frowned at the sudden rhetoric from partisan leaders in Igboland that zoning should be de-emphasised. Insisting that even that will be, it will be after Igbo have taken their turn.

The council mandated the Ohanaeze Ndigbo to also work in consultation with other ethnic groups in pursuant of this objective. We urge every Igbo man with the needed capacity to show interest in the 2023 presidency,” the communique read.

Speaking on the security challenges faced by the region, the group said: “The council mandates Ohanaeze Ndigbo leadership to work in consultation with the state governments in Ala Igboland, to reduce the vulnerability of those residing outside Igboland to the current abysmal state of affairs.

“The council agrees that Ala Igboland needs a security outfit to begin to address the things that are peculiar to the culture, religion, and tradition of Ala Igboland.”

Ripples Nigeria reported that Uzodinma had disclosed that the governors of the five south-eastern states planned to hold a summit in Owerri to discuss the modalities of setting up a security outfit for the region.

The governor said the summit would help to access the security situation in the region and proffer the best solutions to its security challenges.
