Suspected armed robbers invade UI staff quarters, kill NECO official

Armed robbers invaded the staff quarters of the University of Ibadan and killed an official of the National Examinations Council (NECO) Mr Vincent Odinko.

The Nation reported on Friday, November 4, that the gunmen broke into the boys quarters (BQ) of a staff building where the man lived with his family and shot him dead.

Though details of how he was killed were unavailable as at press time, it was learnt that the robbers took away the laptop and mobile phones of the occupants.

The deceased worked in the SSCE Internal Unit, Ibadan branch of NECO while his wife is said to be a member of staff of the university.

Spokesperson of the State Police Command, Adewale Osifeso, who confirmed the incident, said they have launched an investigation to track down Odinko’s killers.

He was said to be working on his laptop when the armed robbers broke into his home last Friday night.

A member of the university community who spoke to The Nation in confidence described the development as “extremely disturbing.”

The resident wondered why an institution with perimeter fencing, good security architecture and personnel can be experiencing security breaches that even led to killing.
