Police raid criminal hideout in Akwa Ibom, arrest two, recover weapons

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command said it has raided a criminal hideout at Ring Road-3 in Uyo and arrested two suspected drug traffickers.

The Police spokesman, ASP Timfon John who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, said firearms were also recovered from the operation which took place on Saturday.

She said one of the suspects, Feziechukwu Kizito Okolie hails from Abia-Omuma in Oru East LGA of Imo State while the other, Udeme Francis Daniel hails from Iwor Etor in Etinan LGA of Akwa Ibom State.

She said items recovered from the suspects include one Nitro Air rifle affixed with a detachable telescope, one SID sauer American Pistol, one powerline Japanese pistol, one phantom American pistol, a black bag containing two pistol magazines with ten rounds of live 9mm ammunition, ⁠one black pistol casing, Two pairs of leather gloves and three wraps of weeds suspected to be cannabis sativa.

John said suspects are currently in the Command’s custody undergoing detailed investigation and would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.

In another statement, the spokesman said the Command on Thursday, August 29, 2024 recovered arms and ammunition from suspected IPOB agents during an intensive patrol operation along Stadium Road in Abiakpo Edem Inyang Village, Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area.

According to her, “During the patrol, the team flagged down a Lexus Jeep with Registration Number KUJ 886 FF. On sighting the police, two unidentified young men came down from the jeep and took to their heels into the nearby forest.

“While searching the Vehicle, the team recovered one AK 47 rifle loaded with 8 No of 8mm ammunition; one locally made long range pistol, one cartridge, 4 different vehicle number plates, Zenith and Access banks ATM cards, National Drivers’ License card, black coloured clothes, bags containing substances suspected to be indian hemp and a torchlight.

“The team, with the assistance of the village youth combed the forest in search of the fleeing suspects. But no arrest has been made this far. The team is not resting on it’s para as it is determined to fetch the suspects and whoever is their sponsors and accomplices.”

She urged residents to be vigilant and report suspicious and unknown movements to the Police for outright action.
