Fire guts three radio stations in Abia

On Saturday night, a devastating fire engulfed and destroyed electronic broadcasting equipment worth millions at three radio stations in Aba, Abia State. The affected stations, Enyimba 94.3 FM, Rose 101.9 FM, and Legend 98.3 FM, are located off Margret Avenue along the PZ axis of Aba-Owerri Road in Aba North Local Government Area. Though independently operated, these stations share a common building, which intensified the damage.

The Abia State Fire Service quickly intervened, preventing the fire from spreading to neighboring buildings. However, reports indicate that all broadcasting equipment in the stations was destroyed, leaving the stations temporarily out of service. Thankfully, no lives were lost.

Enyimba TV and Radio Limited, the parent company of the three stations, stated that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire. According to a staff member, the blaze allegedly started in the television section of the mother station before spreading to the sister radio stations.

In response to the incident, the management announced a temporary shutdown to assess the extent of the damage and implement precautionary measures to prevent future occurrences. Meanwhile, an Abia State Fire Service official urged owners of large companies and factories to equip their premises with fire extinguishers and hydrants to help control potential fires swiftly.
