Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, has moved to evacuate students of Abia origin over insecurity challenges in Plateau State.
Ikpeazu, however, dispatched a team led by his Special Assistant on Students Affairs, Mr Chibuzo Ndom, to the University of Jos, Plateau State, to evacuate Abia students who are currently stranded as a result of the recent violence and subsequent closure of the institution.
This was disclosed in a release by the State Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu and issued to newsmen in Umuahia on Sunday.
According to the release, “the contingent from Abia which includes security personnel are expected to ensure the safe return of the over 200 students of Abia origin back to the state capital, Umuahia, where the evacuees will be welcomed by the Governor”.
Earlier, Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), a socio-cutural organization had asked governors of the southeast zone to immediately evacuate Igbo students from the University of Jos. This is following the rising tension in Jos.
The apex youth group in Igbo land stressed that the urgency of the security situation in Jos led the Benue and Kogi state governors to evacuate their students in UNIJOS, hence the need for Southeast and South-south governors to immediately rescue and save the life of the Igbo students studying in the northern institution.
The Igboayaka O. Igboayaka led Ohanaeze Youth Council in a release, revealed that it was now obvious that the Fulani herdsmen had declared war against all other ethnic nationalities in Nigeria

The Executive Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta has identified major benefits in promoting digital literacy in the country.
Delivering the first Annual Lecture of the Bichi Emirate titled, “Digital Literacy as a Veritable Tool for Social and Economic Transformation” in Bichi, Kano State, over the weekend, Danbatta challenged actors in both public and private sectors to key into the programme.
He noted that digital literacy provides the confidence required by individual citizens to utilise digital contents and tools, adding that it also helps citizens to effectively collaborate in creating digital content and becoming innovative problem-solvers within their socio-economic ecosystem.
The EVC pointed out that technological changes have now assumed an unprecedented dimension in pace, scope and depth of impact, emphasizing that harnessing the progress is the surest path for Nigeria in her quest for economic diversification, especially the elevation of 100 million Nigerians out of poverty.
“The policy thrust of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration in this direction is encapsulated in three key policy documents, namely: Nigeria National Broadband Plan (NNBP) 2020-2025; the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS) 2010-2030; and, the National Policy on Promotion of Indigenous Content in the Nigerian telecommunications sector,” he said.
He said one of the underlying goals of the three policies was the development of the Nigerian economy through digital technology enhancement and increased contribution of the telecom sector to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Speaking specifically on NCC’s interventions in Bichi Emirate, Danbatta said that, of the eight local government areas that constitute the Emirate, the Commission has, through the USPF, identified about 1,900 square kilometers of land, populated by 462,222 individuals as unserved.

Big Brother Naija Shine Ya Eye housemate, Queen, has revealed that she and Boma showered together in the house. She made this revelation while discussing with Sammie on Saturday, day 28 of the show, as she expressed worry over love interests in the house. In the discussion, Queen told Sammie that she was confused about who to pick between Boma and Whitemoney, as she is attracted to both of them. To help her confusion, Sammie broke down the ‘love triangle for her’ by saying, “If you like two men, that’s not an issue.” He continued, “You like Mazi and you like Boma. You like Boma’s body but you like Mazi because of his skin colour and personality. If you like Boma’s body, then you are attracted to Boma sexually.” Queen disagreed with the last point, as she said, “If it’s sexual, don’t you think by now, I would have done something with him or kissed him?” She further revealed, “We had our bath together but we didn’t kiss. We’ve been together. He helped me to bath.”
When Sammie asked further, Queen said she was wearing her bikini when they showered together. Sammie then advised her that she should just ‘catch cruise’ in the house with Boma.
There was palpable tension between residents of Ile-Ife and Modakeke of Osun State on Friday, following the killing of five farmers from Modakeke along Toro Road in the early hours of the day.
The five victims, all male, were found dead on the road to Toro village, where they reportedly had farms.
A community leader in Modakeke, Mr Femi Eluyinka, who confirmed the incident in an interview with our correspondent, said some people from the town, accompanied by police operatives, evacuated the corpses.
Eluyinka, who said the incident had aggravated tension in Modakeke town, said, “Policemen operatives have arrived; tension is on the rise; five of them (deceased) were indigenes of Modakeke and they were killed this morning along Toro road. They were heading to their farm.”
He further explained that personal details of the victims would be released by the police, adding that shops and business places hurriedly shut down as panic spread across the town after the incident.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, said, “We heard some people were killed and the Commissioner of Police has deployed more policemen into the area.”
The remains of the victims, it was learnt, were later taken to the morgue of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife.
However, while motorcyclists that accompanied the corpses, conveyed in a police van to the morgue, were returning to Modakeke through Enuwa, Ile-Ife, sources said there was an attempt to attack Ooni’s palace.
An eyewitness, who preferred anonymity, said some youths from Ife who had mobilised and waited at the entrance of the palace, repelled them and arrested some of the youths, as well as some of their motorcycles.
The Osun State Commissioner of Police, Olawale Olokode, on Friday, met some Ile-Ife chiefs, as the command intensified efforts to dispel tension caused by the killing of five Modakeke indigenes by unknown assailants.

BBNaija: Shina Ya Eye housemate, Pere’s handler has debunked claims that the former HoH was violent to his ex-wife in his previous marriage. Recall that a tweep had shared a tweet some days back alleging that Pere once assaulted his ex-wife till she had a miscarriage. In a statement shared on his Instagram page, Pere’s handlers stated that the reality TV star has never been violent all his life.
The statement reads;
“Over the past week, a number of media outlets published materials containing false allegations that aim to damage the reputation of Pere. In those publications, he was falsely accused of being abusive in his personal life. They attached a false image of an individual just to make their case look legit. The said materials make baseless speculations as to who Pere is as an individual. Pere has never been violent all his life and the image being portrayed was a picture with his friend, a colleague who’s happily married. These types of false information do not affect Pere alone but the innocent friend who’s just showing support to him.”
The statement then says legal action will be taken against the media outlets that published the false report about the housemate.
“We’re currently taking legal steps to each media platform that are involved in this defamation of character. A defamation matter is defined in section 373 of the criminal code as a matter likely to injure the reputation of any person by exposing him to hatred, contempt or ridicule, or likely to damage any person in his profession or trade by injury to his reputation,” the statement read.

Big Brother Naija Shine Ya Eye housemate, Saga, has speculated that Whitemoney’s response to Pere’s confrontation on Monday night was staged. In a discussion with Nini on Wednesday night, Saga said Whitemoney’s response showed that the latter has studied the BBNaija game very well and has set strategies in place. Recall that Pere and Whitemoney had a clash on Monday night over a question asked during the whispering game played by the housemates. After the game, Pere had confronted Whitemoney in a way that the latter described as ‘belittling’ and Whitemoney became pissed and had an outburst. Whitemoney had said, “I know you don’t like me, I know you don’t love me but no problem, let’s have a healthy competition. Regardless, I’ll still kill you with kindness because I like you.”
Referring to Whitemoney’s response, Saga said, “I don’t trust Whitemoney. Everything he did that day was staged. Everything he said was perfect. Whitemoney is one person that knows this game very well. “He has dominated the game because he has auditioned four times. So he has watched it and he knows. He has been watching it from Big Brother Africa so he knows what he’s doing.”
Then Nini said, “As for me, I don’t know what I’m doing. I’m just being myself. I didn’t come with any strategy.” In response, Saga confirmed that his position was the same as Nini’s. Whether his words were planned or not, Whitemoney had earlier revealed to Big Brother that he was still traumatised by Pere’s confrontation.
The tissue used by Lionel Messi to wipe his tears during his farewell press conference is reportedly being sold for $1 million.
Earlier this month, Messi parted ways with Barcelona after spending almost two decades at the Spanish club.
At a press conference to bid farewell to the Catalans, the Argentina captain was reduced to tears as he said his final goodbyes. According to a report by TMZ Sports, the tissue used by the 34-year-old to wipe his tears has gone on sale for a staggering $1 million.
The report suggests the tissue has been posted on an auction site, with the seller claiming it contains Messi’s “genetic material”.
The seller also insists the tissue could potentially be used to someday clone the five-time Ballon d’Or winner. It is unknown whether any buyer would be willing to spend such a huge fortune on the tissue, especially with Messi moving to PSG.
Meanwhile, Messi has started training with the Ligue 1 side and has already set his sights on helping them win the UEFA Champions League. “I believe PSG are prepared to fight once again having come very close in recent years. I have the same dream and desire to win another Champions League,” he told beIN Sports.
“Hopefully I can do whatever is necessary so that we can achieve that goal which is something that would mean a lot to the club, to me personally and to the fans.” Messi will be playing alongside Neymar and Kylian Mbappe in what is certainly the deadliest attacking trio in world football.
Tiffany Haddish, in full Tiffany Sarac Haddish, (born December 3, 1979, Los Angeles, California, U.S.), American comedian who was known for her unflinching candour and disarming authenticity. She shot to stardom with her no-holds-barred performance as Dina in the raunchy comedy Girls Trip (2017).
Haddish’s father, who was Eritrean, left the family when she was still a toddler. After her mother suffered brain damage in a car accident, Haddish spent several years in foster care before going to live with her grandmother as a teenager. Her penchant for making her classmates laugh led her social worker to point her toward the Laugh Factory Comedy Camp, a free summer program offered by the comedy club chain Laugh Factory to teach underprivileged children how to perform stand-up comedy. The camp proved to be a transformative experience for Haddish.
After graduating from high school, Haddish focused on forging a career in comedy, using her life as source material. Although she made headway, she earned so little money that at times she was forced to live in her car. Her first big break came in 2006 when she was a contestant on the television comedy competition show Who’s Got Jokes? Two years later she appeared on Def Comedy Jam and the reality-show spoof Reality Bites Back. During this time, Haddish began to be cast in a number of sitcoms, and she also acted in such films as the comedies Meet the Spartans (2008) and The Janky Promoters (2009), which was written by and starred rapper and actor Ice Cube.
Tiffany Haddish
Haddish’s credits from 2019 included the comedy special Kevin Hart’s Guide to Black History, the animated feature The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, and the mob drama The Kitchen. That year she emceed the comedy special Tiffany Haddish Presents: They Ready; was cast as the host of the updated TV show Kids Say the Darndest Things; and did the stand-up comedy special Black Mitzvah, which was subsequently adapted into a Grammy Award-winning comedy album. In 2020 Haddish starred in the movie Like a Boss, a comedy about two friends who create a cosmetics company, and appeared in the Netflix miniseries Self Made, which was inspired by the life of pioneering businesswoman Madam C.J. Walker (played by Octavia Spencer). Her films from 2021 included the comedy Bad Trip and Billy Crystal’s Here Today, in which she played a singer who forms a friendship with a comedy writer in the early stages of dementia.
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has reacted to the killing of four oil workers of Lee Engineering Company by gunmen in the Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State on Monday.
The group stated that it was not responsible for the attack, insisting that some enemies were trying to dent the image of the group.
It was learnt that the oil workers were going to their oil plant in Assa community when the attackers shot them.
SaharaReporters published that the four persons died instantly while many others sustained injuries.
Confirming the incident, the national president of Congress of Ohaji Youths, Emmanuel Ugorji, said some community leaders and security agents, including himself, had visited the scene.
He aslo called on the government to beef up security in the area, adding that gunmen were terrorising the area in recent times.
The enraged youth leader said, “The first attack by this group was an attack on Oil Serve company and the second one was the kidnapping of the Cluster Development Board Chairman, Godswill Uzomba, whose whereabouts have remained unknown for three months now and followed by burning of ZEROC equipment at Watersmith industrial park by a known criminal gang.”
But in a statement by IPOB spokesperson, Emma Powerful on Thursday, the group said, “The attention of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by our great leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has been drawn to the fabricated falsehood being peddled by our enemies that IPOB killed oil workers in Etekuru community and Asa in Ohaji council of Imo State.
“This is a complete falsehood to tarnish our global reputation. We have no hand in such barbarity. We are not bandits or terrorists that spill blood; IPOB is a non-violent and peaceful movement whose agenda is the restoration of Biafra. Killing or maiming of innocent lives is not part of our mandate.i
“This won’t be the first time enemies of the struggle will be linking us with such atrocity in their desperate but futile attempt to blackmail us but we are innocent of it all. We, therefore, urge members of the public to disregard this unfounded propaganda which is the antics of our enemies.”
While the separatist group stated that suspended sit-at-home order on Monday exonerated its members from such a callous act, it also called on the affected company to probe the incident.
“A further proof that this allegation does not hold water is the fact that even before the purported killings, IPOB had in well-circulated publications at two different times, announced the cancellation of sit-at-home orders on Mondays. So, on what basis will IPOB still go and enforce the same order it had suspended?
“We suspended the sit-at-home order and anybody enforcing sit at home on the day we suspended must have been sponsored by Nigerian government and her security agencies to blackmail IPOB. We have no business with oil companies and their workers in Ohaji or any other place. The oil companies should investigate this attack thoroughly and know who was involved in this act,” Powerful added in the statement.
Comrade Danlad Sunday Oladele, the pioneer president of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has died just two weeks after winning a battle to get YABATECH to release his certificate.
According to Senator Dino Melaye, Oladele’s certificate was withheld by the management of YabaTech as a punitive measure over his activism during his days in the college.
Oladele, alongside a few others, had in 1980 led the rebirth of the students’ movement from the proscribed National Union of Nigerian Students after the military government of Olusegun Obasanjo had, during the “Ali Must Go struggle” led by Olusegun Okeowo, banned student unionism, which was firmly organised under NUNS.
Oladele was said to have led others, and they regrouped, wrote a new constitution and in 1980, founded NANS. But his actions “later earned him and most of his colleagues varying consequences such as expulsion, rustication and withholding of their certificates,” Melaye said.
Oladele fought YABATECH for decades to get his certificate and, with the intervention of the Senate Committee, the management of YABATECH agreed to present him with his certificate at their next convocation but unfortunately, he died two weeks after.
Olalekan, the son of the deceased, told newsmen that his father was in high spirits and was looking forward to the convocation ceremony but died before then. He added that his father died doing what he loved best, which is fighting for the masses, and he had no regrets. Meanwhile, the National Association of Nigerian Students has vowed to retrieve the certificate of its pioneer president.

The Prime Minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern, has announced a nationwide lockdown after the country confirmed one coronavirus case, the first locally transmitted Covid-19 case since February.
At a press conference on Tuesday, Ardern said the country’s authorities were assuming that the case was the “deadly and contagious Delta variant, although genome sequencing is still underway.”
The identified victim was an unvaccinated 58-year-old man in the country’s largest city, Auckland, who tested positive for the virus, prompting the lockdown.
The man was said to have traveled to other parts of the country, and had obvious links to the border, Director General of Health Ashley Bloomfield also said at a separate conference.
According to Ardern, New Zealand will be under the strictest lockdown level for the next three days starting from 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, local time.
Under this level four lockdown, everyone must stay home and businesses are closed aside for essential services such as supermarkets and pharmacies,” she announced.
New Zealand was last under its most serious lockdown level a year ago, and this time, Auckland and the Coromandel Peninsula, an area of the country’s North Island where the patient traveled, are likely to be under the level four lockdown for a week.
“We are one of the last countries in the world to have the Delta variant in our community.
“We’re in the position to learn from experience overseas, and what actions work, and what actions don’t work.
“Delta has been called a gamechanger — and it is. It means we need to again go hard and early to stop the spread.
“We have seen what can happen elsewhere if we fail to get on top of it. We only get one chance,” Ardern said.
