A political support group of Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has assured the vice presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Kashim Shettima, of victory in the state ahead of the 2023 general election.

The Governor Yahaya Bello Network 4 Asiwaju, led by the state coordinator, Haddy Ametuo, gave the assurance after a closed-door meeting with Shettima in Abuja on Monday evening.

The meeting is coming nine days after the Kogi governor collapsed his structure, Yahaya Bello Campaign Organisation, and donated his campaign office to the APC presidential flagbearer, Bola Tinubu.

Reciprocating the goodwill, Tinubu, accompanied by Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Bello Matawalle (Zamfara) and Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano), had commended Bello for mobilising the consciousness of the Nigerian youths, saying he “reminded us of what the nation wants to be.”

In Monday’s meeting, Ametuo briefed Shettima on their activities and proposed plan to ensure the victory of the APC presidential ticket during the 2023 general elections.

He said, “Through the support of our principals Alhaji Yahaya Bello, we paid a solidarity visit to our Vice Presidential candidate Senator Kashim Shettima on Monday to congratulate him on his selection and to assure him of our support for the project.

“We are particularly excited because Senator Kashim Shettima is young, brilliant, resourceful, energetic, and a round peg in a round hole who would add developmental values to Nigeria.”

The political support group pledged its whole alliance and support for the presidential candidate and his running mate ahead of the poll.

Ametuo also reassured that Kogi APC, under the leadership of Bello, has been repositioned and strengthened beyond the reach of opposition political parties in its bid to secure victory for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket in the state.

“Being a grassroots organisation, we assured Senator Shettima that we will ensure massive mobilisation of real voters from all the nook and crannies of Kogi state to deliver the ticket 100 percent during the election.”

“Against all odds, we believe that Senator Shettima was selected based on the principles of integrity, inclusion, and continued performances and relevance in Nigerian politics,” he said.

Adeboye didn’t meet Tinubu, endorse any candidate – RCCG

The Redeemed Christian Church of God has issued a disclaimer debunking a purported meeting between its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, and the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu.

Several news platforms (not The PUNCH) had reported that the revered cleric met with Tinubu on Sunday at the Redemption Camp in Ogun State.

Debunking the claim, the church’s Public Relations Office, in a statement on Tuesday, noted that such a meeting did not hold.

The statement read, “It has come to our notice that some news outlets are reporting that a meeting Between Pastor E.A. Adeboye, The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God Worldwide, and the former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was held a few days back at the Redemption Camp where our esteemed father in the Lord was said to have supported the preferred candidature of the party the former governor is a member of.

“This is to inform the general public that Pastor E.A. Adeboye is under the authority of God, the Christian Association of Nigeria, and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, and as such, will not speak on behalf of Christians on issues regarding policies.”

“Pastor E.A.Adeboye and the RCCG have not and will not endorse any candidate for the 2023 General elections in Nigeria.”

Noting that the news of the meeting was false, the church warned, “News outlets should desist from spreading false information about Pastor E.A. Adeboye and the RCCG as it defeats the code and ethics of journalism and the full weight of the law will be employed if such happens in future.”

BREAKING: Oyo Assembly removes deputy governor.

The Oyo State Deputy Governor, Rauf Olaniyan, has been removed by members of the State House of Assembly, following misconduct and a series of allegations levelled against him.

Olaniyan was removed by members of the House of Assembly on Monday.

The PUNCH
gathered that the deputy governor was removed around 11:00 am by the lawmakers.

The report of the panel set up to investigate him was read by the Majority Leader of the House, Sanjo Adedoyin, from Ogbomoso.

The deputy governor was found culpable and indicted of all allegations and complaints levelled against him.

The Assembly approved Olaniyan’s removal from office leaning on section 188 (9) of the 1999 constitution (as amended).

Olaniyan was elected in 2019 on a joint ticket with the incumbent Governor Seyi Makinde on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party but recently defected to the opposition party, the All Progressives Congress in the state.

The PUNCH had reported late June, that Olaniyan dragged the Oyo Assembly to court over the impeachment move against him by the lawmakers.

The deputy governor was represented in court by his counsel, Chief Afolabi Fashanu, SAN, in the case which came up before Justice Ladiran Akintola at the Oyo State High Court, Ring Road, Ibadan, on June 28.

The judge ordered that the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, and the Clerk of the House be put on notice before he adjourned the matter to June 29.

However, on July 6, despite the order by the Oyo State High Court restraining the state House of Assembly from going ahead with the impeachment process against Olaniyan, the Assembly directed the Chief Judge of the state to set up a seven-man panel to investigate the allegation of gross misconduct against the deputy governor.

This was contained in a motion jointly moved by the Majority leader, Hon Sanjo Onaolapo, and Hon Akintunde Olajide during the plenary.

Meanwhile, in a judgment delivered on July 14, the judge held that the impeachment move initiated by the lawmakers had not violated the constitution in any way, thereby dismissing the suit.

The court said the lawmakers substantially complied with the provisions of Section 188 of the Constitution on the removal process.

The court gave the lawmakers the go-ahead to continue with the impeachment process.

The Oyo State Assembly is largely dominated by the PDP, which must have made a battle against the deputy governor’s removal tough for the APC camp.
