The spokesperson of the Lagos state police command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, has confirmed that eight of the domestic staff of singer Davido have been brought in for questioning following the drowning of his son, Ifeanyi.

Ifeanyi who turned three on October 20, drowned in the swimming pool in the singer’s Banana Island home on Monday, October 31.

Speaking to LIB, Hundeyin said eight of the domestic staff were brought in for questioning today November 1st.

He said after investigation, those found not culpable in the unfortunate incident will be released while those found culpable will remain with the police for further investigation.

”They were brought in questioning, not arrest. Anybody found not culpable will be released immediately while those found culpable will remain with us to further our investigation.”he said

According to a source close to the heartbreaking incident, the Nanny was with Ifeanyi and the Chef came to join them. The Nanny was said to have moved slightly away to receive a call.

When she returned, she couldn’t find Ifeanyi and asumed he was with the Chef but the Chef said he had left Ifeanyi with her.

They began to frantically look for Ifeanyi all over the house for close to 20 mins until a security guard spotted him in the pool.

No one could explain how the boy got in the pool. Davido and Chioma were said to have returned from their trip to the devastating news. “Davido ran mad.

He literally removed his clothes and wanted to run into the streets. He was held back. He and Chioma are inconsolable.”

The boy’s body has been taken to the mortuary and there are indications that an autopsy will be done to determine the cause of death.

All friends, staff and colleagues have been banned from visiting Davido’s father’s house where he and Chioma are holed up.

The Kogi State Government has directed the stoppage and operation of miners using crude methods of mining in the state, following the death of two persons at a mining site in Olamaboro Local Government Area of the state.

The State Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Engr Bashiru Gegu, issued the directive at the weekend when he visited Omelewu Village, in Imane, Olamaboro Local Government Areas that harbours Exodus Mining Company Ltd and Ara Minerals Integrated Nigeria Ltd for an on the spot assessment of the incident.

Gegu, directed the stoppage of mining activities in Imane District, adding that the ways of mining by citizens in the local government was unacceptable.

The commissioner directed the two companies that are into coal mining in the area and the citizens of the community who have resulted into mining coal illegally, using the cadastral unit of the two companies without their consent to stop immediately.

He sympathised with the family of those that lost their lives owing to the collapse of illegal mining activities in the area, stressing that they should use modern ways of mining so as to avoid further occurrence.

The commissioner added that the Kogi State Government has directed the Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to investigate and bring to book any erring citizens found engaging in illegal mining activities.

The Oyo state police command has confirmed the attempted abduction of travelers along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Friday night, October 28.

A statement released by the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Adewale Osifeso, says at about 6.35pm on Friday, operatives of the Command attached to Toll-Gate Division received information about sporadic gunshots heard along the Dominion University end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

He said the police officers with other security agents worked to abort the attack.

He further stated that an officer attached to the command was killed during the shootout.

”In swift response to the above, the Divisional Police Officer led a team comprising; Anti-crime patrol operatives, tactical teams, Police Mobile men and local hunters for immediate rescue and further intervention.

During the process of prevailing and preventing further chaos from what was evidently an abduction scenario, an Officer attached to the Command paid the supreme price with one other badly injured and presently responding to treatment.”

Osifeso stated that expended ammunition shells and (4) Four abandoned vehicles were retrieved at the scene.

He stated that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Williams, has ordered Full-Scale scientific and technological aided Investigations to unravel the events that led to the incident with the Deputy Commissioner in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department leading the Charge.

He added that care-givers, Traditional Healers and Residents within and outside the area of the shooting incident are advised to be on the lookout for gunshot victims and immediately report any strange occurrence to the Police for prompt action.

Lagos State Government is set to implement a ban on the sale of plastic bottled drinks exposed to the sunlight.

This was disclosed by the General Manager of, Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA), Mr Afolabi Solebo.

Solebo said the decision was taken because plastic bottled drinks exposed to continuous sunlight are dangerous to health and very cancerous.

He also revealed that there are plans to carry out a public enlightenment campaign.

He said;

“Plastic bottled drinks exposed to continuous sunlight are dangerous to health and very cancerous. Therefore, it will be part of our public enlightenment between now and the end of the year.

“So that by 2023, we will not only confiscate such drinks but we will prosecute people that are displaying those products under sunlight.

“We also want to have a stakeholders’ meeting with manufacturers of those bottled drinks so as to get alternatives for dummy of the products for distributors to display.

“The essence of displaying those products in the sunlight is to attract consumers to come buy. So if you can put dummies in the sun it has no effect since dummies look like the real thing.”

Asides from asking consumers to always ensure they get value for their money on all products and services rendered to them, Solebo also urged them to avoid consumables that kill bit-by-bit.

He added;

“So the consumers do have responsibilities much as they have a right to safety, to be informed, right to clarity and quality of products, the right to choose and the right to be heard.

“Also, they have the right to consumer education and especially the right to seek redress in court or in our office and when we cannot resolve the matter amicably, we resort to litigation.”
