Uzoamaka Ohiri, ex-wife of comedian and talk show host, Chinedu Ani, a.k.a Nedu, has taken to Instagram to shade him.

She shared new photos of herself and wrote in the caption: “I made sure the door was locked… trust me!”

This comes after Nedu said he walked in on two popular influencers having a threesome with a rich man for money.

Nedu also alleged in the same interview that he knows two popular men who are paid N8 million and N15 million to have gay sex with rich men.

Methodist church ordains first female bishop in Nigeria

The Methodist Church of Nigeria, has ordained Right Reverend Nkechi Nwosu as the church’s first female bishop in Nigeria.

Archbishop of Kaduna, Most Reverend Joseph Nnonah on Sunday, January 22 ordained Nwosu as the Bishop of Jos at the Christ Methodist Cathedral Church in Jos.

The church service came after the decision of the biennial Conference of Methodist Church Nigeria that was held in 2022 where Nwosu was elected as the Bishop of Jos.In her remarks, Nwosu said God has made all humans equal.

She encouraged all Nigerians to always seek the face of God.

“We must all go out there and agree with God, listen to the spirit of God, and do what God said we should do,” the new bishop stated.

“Do that so that God will use us and anybody he will put on that seat to restore Nigeria to a place of pride in Africa, and the world.”

Five killed, one kidnapped as gunmen invade Bauchi community

Gunmen suspected to be bandits invaded the Gambar Sabon Layi community in the Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State and killed five people.

The gunmen stormed the community on Saturday night, January 21, 2023, and shot sporadically into the air to scare residents away before carrying out their nefarious act.

A resident said that the gunmen kidnapped one Mr Daniel and killed the hamlet head of the area and four others.

19 suspects arrested for burning police station during protest over killing of Catholic priest in Niger state

The Niger State Police Command has arrested 19 suspects for burning down Kafin-Koro Police Station in protest over the killing of a Catholic priest, Reverend Fr. Isaac Achi.

Spokesman for the Police Command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, who confirmed the arrest in a statement said about 28 other suspects are presently at large.

“On 17/01/2023 at about 0900hrs, some angry youths of Kafin-Koro District, Paikoro LGA mobilized and protested in Kafin-koro town over the killing of the Rev. Fr,” the statement read.

“During the protest, the rampaging youths conspired amongst themselves and invaded Kaffin-Koro Police Divisional Hdqtrs with dangerous weapons such as sticks, stones, bottles, large quantities of PMS (petrol), and other weapons.

“Without any provocation from the Police, who were even ready to protect the youths for a peaceful protest, but the youths proceeded to the station and set the Divisional Headquarters building ablaze, where four motor vehicles and ten motorcycles, value yet to be ascertained were burnt, including valuable public documents in the office.

“They further vandalized and stole some valuable exhibits such as electronics, laptops, handsets, computer sets etc., kept in the office, value also yet to be ascertained.

“The Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command CP Ogundele J. Ayodeji, psc(+) immediately drafted a reinforcement team led by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations to the scene, normalcy was restored and arrested the suspects below:

The suspects are: Abdulkadir Aliyu 37yrs (leader), Umar Jibrin, 25yrs, Usman Ali, 30, Moh’d Aminu, 31yrs, Rufai Abdullahi, 22yrs, Abubakar Abubakar,19yrs, Aliyu Suleiman, 35yrs, Paul Martins, 38yrs, Hamza Aminu, 23yrs, Bashir Bala, 20yrs, Abdullahi Danmallam, 25yrs, and Musa Emmanuel, 20yrs.

Others are Ibrahim Abubakar, 20yrs, Buhari Salisu, 18yrs,Timothy Simon, 27yrs,Usman Jatan, 25yrs, Dangana Zegi, 48yrs, Mustapha Yau, 30yrs, and Ahmed Mudi,17yrs.

During interrogation, the leader Abdulkadir identified all the suspects who were parts of the crime, and equally mentioned about twenty-eight other suspects who are presently at large.

The Command also released other innocent persons who were erroneously arrested, as the actual suspects were identified by the leader.

Suspects have been arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction for prosecution.

The CP therefore, warns members of the public, Nigerlite to desist from any act of taking laws into their hands and allow the process of the criminal justice system to take its course in the dispensation of justice, as there will always be a consequence for every misdeed in accordance to the rule of law.

Federal Government approves salary increase for port workers

The Federal Government has approved a salary increase for the staff members of the Nigerian Ports Authority.

The Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Sambo, said this over the weekend at the long service award organised by the management of the NPA.

Sambo commended the management of the agency for their commitment to staff welfare.

The Minister also commended the Managing- Director, NPA, Mohammad Bello-Koko, for what he described as his unprecedented performance in revenue generation and remittance.

He said;

“In my median visit to the NPA upon resumption of office, as minister of transportation I was commending the NPA MD, for his unprecedented performance in revenue generation and remittance, he has solicited my backing and support to fast track the processes and procedures for the implementation of salary increase which I immediately acceded to and today I am delighted that it has been achieved.”

Sambo however congratulated the awardees and the entire staff of NPA for their commitment.

“Let me also tell you that the ministry under my watch will continue to provide everything possible for the welfare of the staff of the ministry,” he added.

Earlier, the MD, NPA, Bello-Koko, thanked the Federal Government for their support towards the ensuring increment of staff salaries, saying, “we will like to use this opportunity to appreciate everyone here for their support towards the deliver of salary increase for our dedicated staff.”

Bello-Koko said equipping the human capital resource to be the best has been one of the overriding objectives of the management.

He added that the agency would make good move in this noble cause.

“Our drive towards ensuring 100 per cent occupational health and safety for our staff which has resulted in the ISO certification of Calabar and Onne ports, and we are not relenting on it,” Bello-Koko said.

Nigerian man charged With attempted murder over attack on Guyana State House

A Nigerian man, Bethel Chimezie, 25, who attempted to break into the Guyana State House by stabbing a police officer and shooting at members of the Presidential Guard was charged with attempted murder on Thursday.

According to St Vincent Times, Chimezie, a resident of Industry, East Coast Demerara, was charged in accordance with section 103(c) of the Criminal Law (Offenses) Act, Chapter 8:01 and intentionally discharging a loaded firearm in violation of Criminal Law Offences Act, Chapter 801’s Section 55(a).

On December 15, Chimezie had tried to enter the Security Perimeter Process Unit at State House.

He stabbed presidential guard Corporal Telon Perreira, stabbed five times in the neck and then grabbed the officer’s gun and discharged several rounds before he was shot when other members of the president’s security detail returned fire.

Police arrest two suspected cultists in Bauchi, recover firearm

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspected cultists, Ezikiel Obot and Mathew Toma, in Gwallameji Area of the state.

Spokesperson of the command, SP Ahmed Wakil, who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, January 19, 2023, said a locally-made pistol with three cartridges were recovered from the suspects.

“On 08/01/2023 at about 1114hrs, credible information at the Command’s disposal revealed that suspected cultists were gathering around Licking Fingers Joint, Gwallameji Area of Bauchi state,” the statement read.

“Consequently, in a bid to prevent a breakdown of law and order in the area, a team of detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer, Yelwa Division promptly drafted and swung into action to the scene and succeeded in arresting two suspects, namely; Ezikiel Obot ‘m’ aged 22yrs of Sabon Tasha Kaduna State, and Mathew Toma ‘m’ aged 23yrs of Jos Plateau State.

“During a thorough search of the area, a black bag containing locally-made pistol with three cartridges was recovered. The investigation is discretely ongoing to explore all the intricacies connected with the suspect in the case.”

NCDC places health workers on alert following outbreak of diphtheria

Healthcare workers in the country have been directed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) to maintain a high index of suspicion for diphtheria following the outbreak of the disease in the country.

Diphtheria is a serious bacterial infection caused by the bacterium called Corynebacterium species that affects the nose, throat and sometimes, skin of an individual. Its symptoms include fever, runny nose, sore throat, cough, red eyes (conjunctivitis) , and neck swelling.

In severe cases, a thick grey or white patch appears on the tonsils and/or at the back of the throat associated with difficulty breathing.

Director-General, NCDC, Dr Ifedayo Adetifa said on Thursday night that they’ve responded to reports of diphtheria cases in Lagos and Kano states.

Adetifa also said they are monitoring the situation in Osun and Yobe states where cases are now being picked up.

Kano State Ministry of Health has already revealed that the diphtheria outbreak has so far killed 25 people with 58 suspected cases and six persons on admission.

According to NCDC, diphtheria spreads easily between people through; direct contact with infected people, droplets from coughing or sneezing, and contact with contaminated clothing and objects.

People who are at risk of contracting diphtheria are:

1. Children and adults who have not received any or a single dose of the pentavalent vaccine (a diphtheria toxoid-containing vaccine).

2. People who live in a crowded environment.

3. People who live in areas with poor sanitation.

4. Healthcare workers and others who are exposed to suspected/confirmed cases of diphtheria.

Parents have been asked to ensure that their children are fully vaccinated against diphtheria with three doses of the pentavalent vaccine as recommended in the childhood immunisation schedule.

4 abducted Kwara truck drivers regain freedom

Four truck drivers who were abducted by gunmen in Kwara State have regained freedom. Spokesperson of the state police command, Ajayi Okasanmi confirmed their release on Thursday, January 19.

Okasanmi also said they are yet to make any other arrest asides the two made earlier.

He told Daily Trust;

“Yes, they have been released but I cannot give you further details now except I get to the office because I am on transit coming from Patigi Local Government Area and the network is poor.

“But we are yet to make additional arrests from the two we already made and they are still under investigation.”

A family member who preferred anonymity told the publication that the truck drivers were released after they paid an undisclosed sum as ransom.

Hoodlums set court ablaze in Abia

The Ikwuano High Court built by Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has been set ablaze by hoodlums.

The Abia State Government has called on the security agencies in the state to bring to book those responsible for the arson attack.

The Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the State, Chief Uche Ihediwa, SAN, made the call in a statement after he and his team paid an unscheduled inspection to the area to ascertain the level of destruction.

In the statement signed by the Public Relations Officer in the Ministry, Anyim Agbai, the CJ expressed shock over the destruction of the court building.

He wondered why a court building built to resolve disputes among people in the rural area would be burnt.

He added that burning the court would adversely affect the people’s quest for justice as they would henceforth travel to Umuahia for their cases.

He challenged the security agencies in the area to ensure they unveiled those behind the act.

Rivers court sentences woman to three years imprisonment for trafficking victim to Libya for prostitution

Justice Phoeba Ayua of the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has sentenced a 35-year-old woman, Amadi Joy Ngozi, to three years imprisonment for human trafficking.

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in a statement on Thursday, January 19, 2023, said Amadi was convicted on a two-count charge of conspiracy and trafficking in person.

Count one reads: Promoting foreign travels to a victim from Port Harcourt to Libya for the purpose of prostitution contrary to section 18 of the Trafficking in Persons Enforcement and Administration Act 2015.

Count 2 reads: Recruitment of a victim from Port Harcourt to Libya by means of fraud for the purpose of the victims exploitation contrary to section 13(2) (b) of the Trafficking in Persons Prohibition and Administration Act 2015.

On Count 1, the convict was sentenced to 2 years imprisonment or option of a fine of five hundred thousand naira (N500,000). On Count 2 – 1 year imprisonment.

The court also awarded compensation to the victim – the sum of five hundred thousand naira to be paid by the convict.

The charge was filed on the 17th of January 2022.

Kano Shari’ah court judges and others sent to prison for allegedly diverting N500m meant for orphans

14 judges and registrars of Kano State Sharia Court Division, have been sentenced to prison alongside a cashier of the court, Hussaina Imam for allegedly diverting the sum of N500 million meant for orphans.

The defendants who were arraigned before Chief Magistrate Mustapha Sa’ad Datti on Wednesday, January 17, were accused of committing an offence bordering on criminal conspiracy, joint act, and criminal breach of trust by public servants, theft and forgery.

The First Information Report alleged that;

“On 20th August, 2021 an official complaint was received at the Kano State Public Complain and Anti-Corruption Commission from Kano State ministry of justice, that sometimes ago in the year 2020/2021 you Bashir Ali Kurawa “M”, Saadatu Umar “f”, Tijjani Abdullahi “m”, Maryam Jibrin Garba “f”, Shamsu Sani “m” and you Hussaina Iman “f” you committed an offence of criminal conspiracy in which you Hussaina Imam used your official position as cashier in the Kano State Sharia Court of Appeal and conspired with the aforementioned persons and one Suleiman “m” (now at large) and forged the letterhead papers/sheets of Sharia Court of Appeal, forged the signatures of the two signatories to the Stanbic IBTC bank account 0020667440 belonging to Kano State Sharia Court of Appeal and stole money to the tune of four hundred and eighty four million, sixty seven thousand, three hundred and twenty seven naira and seven Kobo (N484,067,327:07) by fraudulently authorising the bank to transfer the said amount to various bank accounts without the knowledge and/or consent of the authorised body/persons.”

In another separate charge, the defendants were arraigned for the alleged offences of criminal conspiracy, joint act, criminal breach of trust by a public servant and theft by a clerk or servant contrary to Sections 97, 79, 315 and 289 of Penal Code.

The FIR added;

“That on 29th August, 2021, an official complaint was received by the Commission from Kano State Ministry of Justice, that sometime ago in the year 2018 to 2021 you Sani Ali Muhammad “m”, Sani Buba Aliyu “m”, Bashir Baffa “m”, Garzali Wada “m”, Hadi Tijjani Mu’azu “m”, Alkasim Abdullahi “m”, Yusuf Abdullahi “m”, Mustapha Bala Ibrahim “m”, Jafar Ahmad “m”, Adamu Balarabe “m”, Aminu Abdulkadir “m”, Abdullahi Suleiman Zango “m”, Garba Yusuf “m”, Bashir Ali Kurawa “m” and you Hussaina Imam “f” criminally conspired, breached the trust in you as a public servant, acted jointly and create 15 fake civil servants’ death benefit files and fraudulently siphoned funds to the tune of ninety six million, two hundred and fifty thousand naira (N96,250,000.00) that was remitted by the Kano State Pension Fund Trustee to the bank accounts of Kano State Sharia Court Appeal and stole the said amount through eight Sharia Courts under the Kano State Sharia Court Appeal without the consent and knowledge of the authorising authority.”

However, all the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges and the counsel representing them applied for a bail on their behalf.

Responding to the bail applications, the defense counsels urged the court to consider the huge amount involved in the case while granting the bail.

The trial Magistrate, Mustapha Sa’ad Datti, adjourned the case to February 1, 2023, for hearing and ordered the remand of all the defendants in the correctional centre.

One killed as storey building collapses in Lagos

One person has been confirmed dead after a storey building located at number 12 Aromire Avenue, opposite Dominos Pizza, Ikeja, suddenly collapsed on Wednesday evening at about 6.45pm on January 18.

Confirming the incident, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Dr Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the building was under construction when it partially collapsed.

“The agency responded to distress calls and upon arrival, discovered that a storey building formerly occupied by KUMS MART, was being worked on by unskilled labourers resulting in a partial collapse.

An adult male reported to be a welder lost his life instantly at the scene. His remains were recovered and removed from the scene.

Post-disaster assessment conducted by the agency’s Response Team, LRT, indicates that the building is stable and does not pose a threat to other buildings around.

The building has been cordoned off and officials of the Lagos State Building and Control Agency, LASBCA and Nigeria Police have been contacted for further action.”he said

The management of Obafemi Awolowo University, has celebrated a diligent scholar, Professor Abiodun Adebayo Adediran as he retired from active service in the university.

Abiodun is a Professor of History, an iconic Nigerian historian and a seasoned university administrator.

Adediran started his academic career as a Graduate Assistant in the Department of History of the University of Ife in 1976 and he attained the professorship cadre in 1993.

His areas of academic and research competencies are African/Yoruba History, Western Yorubaland and was taught and trained at Ife by the late doyen of ‘Ife School of History; Professor Isaac Adeagbo Akinjogbin.

Prior to his retirement, he served the Obafemi Awolowo University and the Nigeria University system at large in different capacities at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, he was Director of the Institute of Cultural Studies, Head of Department of History, Dean of Faculty of Art, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Director of the University’s Linkages and sponsored research office.

Outside the Obafemi Awolowo University, Adediran was associate lecturer/visiting professor at the University of Ibadan, University of Ilorin , Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti; University of Wisconsin-Parkside, USA and the University of Bayreuth, Germany at different times. Adediran is a member of the Historical Society of Nigeria, Archaeological Association of West Africa, American Studies Association of Nigeria, Historical and Environmental Interest Group of Nigeria.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Adebayo Bamire who was also present at the valedictory ceremony described him as a dedicated academician whose legacy would continue to be felt in the university premises and most especially the Department of History.
