The Kano State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development has distributed new clothes to children in the three remand homes in the state.
The state Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr Zahra’u Muhammad-Umar, who was represented by a permanent secretary, Dr Sa’adatu Sa’idu-Bala, said the clothes distribution was to enable the children to celebrate the forthcoming Sallah festival.
The items distributed included new clothes, shoes, underwears, deodorants, caps and others.
Muhammad-Umar stated, “It is a rewarding gesture capable of attracting God’s favour to the government and the ministry.”
The commissioner also said the gesture was to make the children feel loved like other children and put smiles on their faces.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the beneficiaries were inmates of the Nasarawa Children Home, Torry Home, and the Goron Dutse Remand Home.
Speaking on behalf of the officers in charge of the homes, Hajiya Aisha Sani-Kurawa, commended the state government for making life comfortable for the inmates.
