Four burnt to death, others injured at Rivers illegal bunkering site

Fire has gutted an illegal crude oil refining site at the Rumuji-Ibaa river in Emuoha Local Government area of Rivers State, killing at least four persons.

Reports say that an unspecified number of people also sustained serious degree burns.

An eyewitness, who gave his name as Onyema Okoro told journalists in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, that residents of the area woke up to see a huge flame on the river, with a thick black smoke billowing into the atmosphere.

“The fire was even entering the bush. When the fire came down we saw a boat on fire. The people that were inside, no one was seen coming out.

“People were also scared going close to the place. Later when people got there, they found out it was four persons that were burnt,” he added.

According to Okoro, seven persons who survived but sustained serious burns were rushed into the villages for treatment.

Some people that the fire touched ran into the bush. The ones they could rescue they took them to the village. But all the chemist shops there said they cannot treat that kind of fire burns.

“So, I don’t know what happened to them again. But for the ones that died, they buried them there because they said according to tradition when people die like that they don’t take them home” he stated.

He also said people from the village were seen buying raw eggs which he said would be used to help in the treatment of the survivors in the inferno.

The spokesman of the State police command, Nnamdi Omoni, said he was yet to get a report of the incident.

Lagos withholds viral amputee hawker’s N25million donation after detecting lies in her claim.

Lagos withholds viral amputee hawker’s N25million donation after detecting lies in her claim.

The Lagos State Government has withheld the donations made to amputee hawker, Mary Daniel, after discovering that she ”lied” about her condition.
Mary, who went viral while selling water in Oshodi, was discovered by kind hearted Nigerians after her story was shared on social media.
The single mother claimed she lost a leg in an accident that killed all passengers, including her parents, when she was a teenager.

She added that life became hard and she dropped out of school to fend for herself by selling on the street.
She said during an interview that she is an orphan with a baby and an aged grandmother to fend for.
Her story touched Nigerians and well-meaning people made donations which totaled 25 Million Naira.

This prompted the Lagos state government to step in to prevent criminals from taking advantage of her sudden fortune.
However, the state government has now discovered inconsistencies in her story, The Nation reports.
It was discovered that her father is alive and that she was amputated from birth, not as a result of an accident.

It was also learnt that Mary Daniel started receiving strange calls from those who staged her story with threats to reveal the truth unless she gave them their share of the money.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu immediately handed her over to officials of the social welfare for investigation in the presence of the police and some Kogi leaders, who attested her father was alive, following revelations her case was staged.
Commissioner of Police Hakeem Odumosu told The Nation the young woman was in the custody of officials of the Social Welfare and not the police as earlier reported.

A Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge, Mark A. Young has on Monday dismissed a suit instituted by Wade Robson against the late singer, Michael Jackson’s estate, Fox New states.

The suit was initially instituted in 2013 but dismissed for lack of merit. However, it was revived in 2020 after California Governor, Gavin Newsom signed a new law giving those who allege childhood sexual abuse a longer time to file lawsuits.

In an HBO’s produced blockbuster “Leaving Neverland,” Wade Robson had alongside James Safechuck, levelled allegations against the late singer for abusing them sexually when they were boys.

While Jackson’s family had regarded the production as “character assassination” on the late pop star, both men had instituted different lawsuits which have both been dismissed.

The reinstituted 2020 lawsuit alleged that Jackson molested Wade over seven years and that as Jackson’s employee, the two corporations (MJJ Productions Inc. and MJJ Ventures Inc.) had failed in their duty to protect him from their employee’s conduct.

Young Nigerian lady recounts her scary experience with her 67 year old sugar daddy.

A Nigerian lady has anonymously narrated a scary experience she had with a 67 year old man she once dated.
The man had visited her and slept over at her house. According to the lady, she woke up at about 2am and saw the man wearing a black and red cloth and vanished after he tiptoed to the window.
She said that in the morning the man told her to either pretend as if she never saw anything or she dies if she speaks about it.

She wrote;

“I once dated a sugar daddy. He was 67 years old. He used to spoil me with money. One day he requested to come and have a sleepover at my house. That man was a witch.
As we were sleeping, he told me to sleep as tomorrow we were going to have a long day. My dear I prayed for a peaceful and well protected night.
At around 2.am, we went to the toilet. I woke up and saw him with a black and red cloth around his waist. I froze. He just tiptoed near the window and he disappeared.
I couldn’t even shout or move. I stayed still for almost one and half hours when he returned through the window, went straight to the bathroom and came to the bed.
“Mummy are you asleep? I didn’t answer. He slept.
Early in the morning I climbed down from the bed, went to the sitting room and prayed for forgiveness and vowed never to date that man again. He came to the sitting room where I was praying and told me… It’s either I pretend not to have seen what has happened or die”.

Having quit his regular job to pursue his passion for music and has gone on to prove himself to be fiercely versatile, delivering colourful creativity across a range of genres in this tasteful and original body of work, Mukhtar Oladapo Sarumi, professionally known as Mukhy, who recently released a genre-rich mixtape, ‘Posh Nation’, has revealed that a good number of upcoming artistes make bad financial decisions just to ‘look good’ to their fans.

“I did not expect to get this award-Oscar award winner, Hopkins.

“I did not expect to get this award. I really didn’t,” Hopkins said. “I’m very grateful to the Academy, and thank you. I want to pay tribute to Chadwick Boseman, who was taken from us far too early. And again, thank you all very much.”

Hopkins starred in “The Father” as a man suffering from memory loss. The 83-year-old star, who shot his Instagram video in his native Wales, became the oldest person to win an acting Oscar.

At 83, Hopkins is the oldest actor ever to win an Oscar — male or female — beating out Christopher Plummer who was just 82 when he won in 2012 for Beginners. Plummer received a nomination at the age of 88 for All the Money in the World, making him the oldest person to ever be nominated in any acting category.

This is Hopkins’ second Best Actor victory. He famously won an Oscars in 1992 for his role as Hannibal Lecter in Jonathan Demme’s The Silence of the Lambs. In all, he has been nominated six times, for Silence, The Father, The Remains of the Day, Nixon, The Two Popes and Amistad.

A pair of shoes designed and worn by musician Kanye West has sold for $1.8m (£1.3m) at an auction.

A pair of shoes designed and worn by musician Kanye West has sold for $1.8m (£1.3m) at an auction. It is the highest amount ever paid for a pair of trainers.

The Nike Air Yeezy 1 Prototypes beat the previous record, which was held by a pair of Nike Air Jordan 1s that sold for $615,000 last year.

“The sale also marks the first pair of sneakers to top $1m,” Sotheby’s auction house said on Monday.

West first wore the shoes while performing at the Grammys in 2008. They are a US size 12, or a UK 11.

The shoes were bought by RARES, an internet platform for investing in rare footwear. Its users can buy shares in a pair in a similar way to how investors buy stocks in a company, Yahoo news states.

They were sold by the shoe collector Ryan Chang in a private sale, which means neither the buyer nor the final sale price can be publicised unless the buyer themselves comes forward.

“The sale marks the highest publicly recorded price for a sneaker sale ever,” the auction house said in a statement.
