Few weeks to my introduction he dumped me because I asked for a new phone – Lady laments

A Nigerian lady has cried out bitterly after her boyfriend canceled her introduction scheduled to hold this December, and broke up with her over a request.

According to the lady, she has been in a relationship with the man for more than 3 years, but all that came crashing when she asked him to buy her a new phone.

She revealed that he has been buying her lots of gifts as well as phones, just that she wanted to upgrade her phone and asked him for money to get a new one.

He gave a suggestion that she should sell her phone and he’ll add money, but she declined and insisted that he buy the phone.

Subsequently, he contacted her and ended their relationship.

Read her story below:

”I and my boyfriend have been dating for over 3 years since we met in school, I must say he’s a nice and caring man but I was carried away through the advice I got from my friends.

He used to buy me clothes, bags, shoes, hair and he has bought up to 2 phones for me since we started dating although there was a time I was robbed while returning back from work, he bought me a new phone which I’m using now.

What happened is this, I wanted to use a higher model of the phone I’m using so asked him to give me money, he accepted but on a condition that I should sell the one I’m using then he will add money to it so i could get a new one but I refused because I wanted to make use of the money after selling it. So I insisted he should use his money to buy the new phone for me.

After the serious argument that afternoon, the next day he called me to inform me that he’s no longer interested in the relationship and therefore the introduction which we have planned to be this coming Christmas is cancelled.

Right now I’m still confused, I don’t really know how to go about this situation, after I have informed my parents about the introduction. Had it been I known, I wouldn’t have requested for the phone.”

Former Super Falcons’ goalkeeper, Rachel Ayegba now drives bus in London

Former goalkeeper of the Nigerian national women’s football team, Rachael Aladi Ayegba is now a double-decker bus driver in London.

UK is battling with a crisis of driver shortage during the pandemic and Ayegba who decided to lend a helping hand, signed up to be a driver of the buses, Standard UK reports.

She played in the 2007 Women’s World Cup, the 2006 and 2008 African Women’s Championships and had an 11-year stint as a professional footballer in Finland, winning the league title in 2013 with PK-35 Vantaa.

The UK publication reports that she now drives the number 185 between Lewisham and Victoria. She is in the middle of a year’s training.

The 35-year-old who moved to England in 2018, says she had visited London for years on holiday and always admired the double decker buses.

She works for Go-Ahead, the bus and train giant that operates about a fifth of the capital’s buses on behalf of TfL.

She reckons driving a bus and playing in goal have a lot in common, which is about safety first and about not making a mistake.

When you are trying to save the ball, you need safe hands. But there are ten others on your side.

When you drive a bus, you are on your own.

“Mentally you have to be 100% ready, if you are a goalkeeper the defenders can help you. You can’t make any mistakes driving a bus,” she was quoted on Standard UK.

On the issue of bus drivers not getting enough respect, she said;

“They don’t. I think we just see a bus driver as a nobody. I see them more like a pilot, if anything goes wrong, it’s on them. Now I’ve done the training, the people I respect most, after my family, are the drivers.”

Ayegba, whose favourite player is Cristiano Ronaldo, doesn’t play football anymore, though she has coaching licenses.

“I am old. You have to know when to stop,” she said.

Christian body to file fresh suit against govt regulations

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on Sunday vowed to file a fresh suit challenging the implementation of certain provisions of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020 in the country.

Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Friday dismissed a suit filed by CAN to challenge the CAMA 2020 signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari in August last year.

The law stipulates that religious bodies and charity organisations will be regulated by the Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and a minister.

It also provides that the CAC may, by order, suspend the trustees of an association or a religious body and appoint an interim manager or managers to coordinate its affairs in the event of misconduct or mismanagement or in public interest.

CAN had in March filed a suit with the number FHC/ABJ/CS/244/2021 at the Federal High Court, Abuja, on the regulation.

In the ruling, the court held that the proper name of the Plaintiff was “The Registered Trustees of Christian Association of Nigeria” as stated on the Plaintiff’s Certificate of Incorporation as against “The Incorporated Trustees of Christian Association of Nigeria.”

However, CAN’s General Secretary, Joseph Daramola, said in a statement the Christian body would file a fresh case on the matter.

He said: “Our lawyers are currently preparing to institute a fresh suit using the proper name of the Plaintiff (CAN) as it is on the Certificate of Incorporation. This is the truth of the matter now. What happened in the court was just a temporary setback and by the grace of God, we have overcome it. Our prayers are for the unborn generations and nothing will discourage us from pursuing this case to the logical conclusion.

“We want the court to determine whether Section 839, subsections (1), (7) (a) and (10) of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA), 2020, is inconsistent with Sections 4(8), 6(6)(b) and 40 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) which guarantees the plaintiff’s right to freedom of association and the right to seek redress in court.

Whether the provision of Section 854 of the CAMA is inconsistent with Section 39 of the CFRN which guarantees the right to freedom of expression.”

“Part of the reliefs we are seeking include an order striking down Sections 839(1), (7) (a) & (10), 842(1) and (2), 843, 851 and 854 of the CAMA for being unconstitutional.

“A declaration that Section 17(2) (a) & (d) of the CAMA demand an impossible and impracticable action; thus, void.

“An order striking down Section 17 (2) (a) & (d) of the CAMA for being impracticable and unknown to law.”

NANS joins voice to calls for justice in Dowen College murder, tasks foreign mission

The National Association of Nigerian Students on Sunday called on foreign missions to arrest and bar the five students of Dowen College alleged to have murdered 12-year-old Sylvester Oromoni on November 30, 2021.

The students’ body also called for the swift arrest of key officials of the Lekki-based school.

This was contained in a statement issued by the NANS President, Sunday Asefon titled, ‘Sylvester Oromoni’s Death: NANS calls for immediate arrest of school principal, housemaster…urges foreign missions in Nigeria to ensure suspects do not sneak into their countries’.

According to the association, the authorities must ensure thorough investigations into Oromoni’s death, no matter how influential the parents of the culprits are.

NANS said, “We equally call for the immediate arrest and interrogations of names of students mentioned in the attack that led to the eventual death of Sylvester irrespective of how highly placed their parents are. There must not be any sacred cow as all of them must be arrested, adequately interrogated, and charged if found culpable.

“By this press statement, we put on red alert foreign missions in Nigeria to deny entry to the following students who had been fingered in the attack leading to the death of Sylvester Oromoni until the investigation is concluded.

NANS will follow this case religiously in our attempt to be the voice of the voiceless and ensure a level playing ground at the cause of the investigation irrespective of how influential and wealthy the families of the purported culprits are.”

How I unknowingly got pregnant for my step son – Woman shares

A woman simply known as Justina Agbumi has shared the unbelievable story of how she conceived for her husband’s son.

Justina was married to Donald Abgumi for 19 years but they never had a child. After Donald died, the woman became curious to establish whether she was indeed barren.

She decided to put her fertility to test with the young man that was staying with them, not knowing that the young man in question is the biological son of her husband from another woman.

Sharing her story with The Nation, Justina said; “He was my best friend before we got married. We were ready to have children as quickly as possible so we could move on.

“But after five years and more, there was nothing. I didn’t take in, so I became worried.

“We went for several tests but we were told I had no problem but my husband had low sperm count and he needed to regulate his diet, which we did, but nothing changed.

“Because he is the only son, his mother had already become hostile to me, visiting regularly from the village while my husband also joined her in frustrating me.

“Before then, I visited places my faith would ordinarily not permit to, because all I wanted was a child. Yet nothing came out of it.

“That was how I started living alone. I cried daily but that didn’t bring any succour.

One day, I got an idea and decided to test my fertility with another man. I realised that would be adultery of the highest order, but I also felt it would be lesser sin if it was with my husband’s relation who was staying with us. I drew the young man closer and made him my best friend since my husband had stopped making love to me for close to seven months.

“Luring Godwin to start sleeping with me was a difficult decision but I was also considering my age.

“I had never cheated on my husband before, but I had reached the limit of my endurance and the circumstances around me was not in my favour.

“I concluded that I would test my fertility through Godwin.

“I had seem Godwin’s crotch during house cleaning, so I realised that his manhood was big enough to give me satisfaction, though he was only about 17 years old.

“I started admiring him anytime my husband went to work. I would summon courage and make advances to him, drawing him closer to me with petty items.

“In no time, he succumbed and we started having sex, though he was not too perfect because he had not been into it.

“But I was teaching him. I also warned him never to reveal it and threatened to kill him if he opened up to anybody.

“We progressed in that direction, especially during my ovulation period. In no distant time, he was able to impregnate me. I missed my period three months after.

I was very happy that the plan to test my fertility worked and that what my husband could not do for years, Godwin did within a short time.

“One fortunate thing was that Godwin himself did not know that he was responsible for it.

“Unfortunately for me, I didn’t know that Godwin was actually the biological son of my husband. The entire family hid it from me so that I would not victimise him.”

A twist had occurred in the matter when Godwin secured admission into the College of Education Akwanga and was travelling to commence registration when he had an accident that claimed his life.

“He died before I was delivered of a baby boy,” Justina said.

“When Godwin was buried, I did not attend his burial because I was not strong enough to travel to the village as I was heavily pregnant.

But after his burial, I noticed that my husband was sad and affected by Godwin’s untimely death. He was affected psychologically so much that it almost cost him his job.

“He ceased to be a happy man, even when I delivered a baby boy for him.

“I made several attempts to discuss with him about the future of our new born baby, but it never interested him, because deep inside him, he knew he was not responsible for the pregnancy and was only pretending.

“The man was not happy at all. One morning, precisely in October this year, my husband abruptly woke me up and broke down in tears, but he was unable to tell me the cause of his misery.

“After about 40 minutes later, he was calm enough to tell me why he was crying.

He started by apologising to me for not telling me from day one that the late Godwin was actually his biological son.

“He said that while growing up many years ago, he had an affair with a girl which resulted in pregnancy and the girl refused to abort it. She gave birth to Godwin and his mother brought him up.

“So when he met me and I showed serious dislike for any man who already had a child out of wedlock, he decided to hide it from me in order not to lose me.

“He said he didn’t know how to tell me about it all these years. He said he had wanted to reject the pregnancy but his parents took responsibility while he proceeded with his studies.

“He said that when he started working after his studies, he decided that the boy should come and stay with us so that I could train him. But he hid his true identity from me to avoid victimization.

My husband again burst into tears that the late Godwin was his only son and that he knew full well that he was not responsible for the pregnancy that brought the new born baby boy.

“He pleaded with me to tell him the true father of the new born baby because we did not engage in any lovemaking in the period preceding the pregnancy.

“I burst into tears and cried uncontrollably. I found it difficult to explain to him since he had been plain with me at the late hour.

“I knelt down before him in tears and confessed to him that the late Godwin, his own son, was the father of my new born baby

“I pleaded with him to forgive me of all my sins; that it was an attempt to save my marriage and bear a child for him, and that I thought that rather than going outside, I should test my fertility with his relation to know whether the fault was from me or from him.

I pleaded with him to forgive me of all my sins, saying that I took that course of action to protect the marriage and the consolation is that the new baby boy would replace his son, since it is his late son’s blood.

“We hardly talked and he hardly responded to my conversation. At a point, I was afraid that he might kill my son. His aloofness really worried me, so I ran out of the house to one of my uncles who also stays in town.

“Two days after, precisely on the 27th of October, my husband slept and died in his sleep.

“Now his people are saying I might have been responsible for his death, and they are threatening to kill me too,” she said amid tears.

“My brother, I am not myself. I am confused. I don’t deserve to be alive again, so I’m contemplating suicide because my effort to give my husband a child has ruined my life.

While it was difficult to confront the two families due to the calamity that befell them, our correspondent managed to speak with the late Donald’s mother, and she said: “She (Justina) killed my only son.

“From day one when we realised she could not conceive, we asked her to go but she refused.

“She brought instability into my son’s life which led to his death.

“My son told me all that happened before he died.”

The popular social media commentator and activist stated that he will be walking with anyone promoting peace.

It would be recalled that on Tuesday, November 30 Lagos State governor invited several #EndSARS activists including Segalink to a “Peace Walk”, as one of the steps towards closure and healing over last year’s EndSARS protests and the Lekki toll gate incident.

After seven days in the captivity of his abductors, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Fugar, Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State, Aliyu Ishaq, has been rescued.

The senior police officer was kidnapped by gunmen last Friday along the Auchi–Ekperi-Agenebode Road, while travelling with his police orderly, who managed to escape.

The kidnappers later contacted the family of the police officer for ransom payment of N50 million.

Though it was not confirmed if any ransom was paid for his release, a police source said Ishaq’s rescue was made possible following the arrest of some suspects who volunteered information the rescue team used to free the kidnapped officer.

It was the credible information gathered from the arrested suspects that the police used in rescuing the DPO.

“The Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Philip Ogbadu, immediately ordered the combing of the bush along Fugar-Agenebode Road where DPO Ishaq was kidnapped on Friday,” the source said.

The state police spokesman, Bello Kotongs, also confirmed the rescue of Ishaq, adding that efforts have been intensified to arrest all the suspects involved in the abduction of the police officer.

We’ll regulate Netflix, other streaming services – FG

The Federal Government says it plans to regulate streaming and online content providers such as Netflix, expressing worry that they can be exploited to “cause chaos” and undermine Nigeria’s democratic processes.

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed made the disclosure at a two-day conference, adding that the popularity and demand of streaming services in Nigeria has grown with the COVID-19 pandemic, “hence its regulation.”

Federal government and industry stakeholders discussed “the implication of Nigeria censorship laws and regulatory framework for Over-The-Top (OTT) streaming services and content providers in Nigeria.”

Mohammed who was represented by Director, Information and Technology in the ministry, Comfort Ajiboye, reiterated his position that social media and streaming services can be used “to cause chaos and undermine democratic processes.”

The conference was organised by the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) on Wednesday in Lagos, along with practitioners and stakeholders in the entertainment and creative industry.

In his opening address, Executive Director and CEO of the NFVCB, Adedayo Thomassaid the conference was to brainstorm on creating policies to regulate streamers and content providers in Nigeria.

With over 50 per cent internet penetration, it has become imperative to convene this conference to bring together stakeholders and legislators in a conversation so as to come up with crystal policies on the regulation of streamers and content providers,” Thomas said.

The NFVCB boss said streaming service providers were unable to self-regulate, reason why their operations were now being discussed at the conference with the theme, “Nigeria Digital Content Regulation”.

Thomas, however, pledged that, “the goal of regulation is not to stifle creativity but to create sanity and encourage healthy competition for socio-economic gains.”

At the conference as a panelist was Netflix Director of Public Policy, Sub-Saharan Africa, Shola Sanni.

Participants include members of the various Guilds in Nollywood which included the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) and Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN).

Others are the Association of Movie Producers (AMP), Theatre and Movie Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), among others.

Drama as police arrest corp members in Lagos for driving Benz

Officers of the Lagos state Police Command on Wednesday, allegedly arrested three uniformed members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC in the state.

According to an eyewitness identified as David @themccoyman on Twitter, some officers whisked away the corp members who were in a Mercedes Benz outside at the venue for their community Development Service (CDS). Eti-Osa Local Government office, Lagos.

He revealed that the dramatic incident happened in seconds, and the officers attempted to drive away with the Benz but were stopped.

He also said they were able to secure the release of two of the corp members.

David, in a follow-up tweet, said that the third NYSC member was eventually released upon intervention from other corp members.

Sharing a photo, he wrote; ”Supposed police officers just kidnapped three uniformed “corpers”, on CDS day, in front of the Local Government Office at Eti-Osa, Lagos. We were able to immediately recover two of them but one is still missing. All of this happened in seconds, in broad day light!

Hours later, he added; Please, this kidnapped corper has since been released. Well done to everyone who stood gallant this morning.

My update is late because my phone died.

Shocking event though. All my fingers are pointed to the Nigerian Police Force and a certain peace-loving Governor.

No, I will not refer to this as an arrest. It was a kidnap.

These corpers were sitting peacefully in their Benz. They were suddenly surrounded by men (in regular clothes) who pointed a gun at them and yanked them from said Benz.

Their offence? “Why is a corper driving a Benz?”

Here is a video that tells some part of the story. A few of these kidnappers tried to leave in the Benz but fortunately, they were swarmed by corpers. Look, there’s a lot of infuriating audacity on display! May God save us all from this country.”

Juliet graduated with first class from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) on Friday, November 26 with a 4.89 CGPA.

Taking to her LinkedIn page, the graduate disclosed that her twin sister, Kehinde got 4.82 CGPA.

Juliet said that while she and her sister are open to opportunities in architecture, they are also planning on how to further their education.

Sharing photos from their graduation ceremony, she wrote;

”On Friday, 26th Nov. 2021, I was awarded the overall best graduating student (4.89/5.00 cgpa) of the Federal University of Technology Akure, my twin sister also followed with a strong cgpa of 4.82/5.00. We both give glory to God. If you want twins like us, receive it with faith.

In retrospect, I remembered how I was totally away from school for more than two months. Myself, my parents, doctors and colleagues were all so scared and worried. I cried on several occasions that God should heal me so I can return to school. I never gave up hope, I was determined. I eventually returned to school to do marathon reading, submitted all assignments, did some make-up test and wrote the exam for that semester. It was the most challenging period of my life.

I was surprised to be named the Valedictorian because I never competed to be the best, I only strive for perpetual excellent and fortunately other things were added to me. In everything you do, try as much as you can to deliver utmost quality, regardless of whether it is school or workplace or home. We were raised with that mindset. Be punctual, be consistent, set priorities, dream, wake up and get to work..

Once again, I congratulate all class’20 graduands, regardless of your class of degree you have done well, I celebrate you and I have no doubts in your capability to dominate the world. Ask around, FUTA products are quality products..

I earned a diploma degree in Architecture and I have now earned a Bachelor’s degree in Building Technology. I can proficiently use all architectural software you can think of (AutoCad, Revit, Orion, Lumion, SketchUp e.t.c) and I also use python for data analysis. Also, I am still exploring more ways of integrating virtual and augmented reality into Architecture.

Moving forward, my Twin sister and I are planning to further our education, and practice in the building industry. I am also open to Architecture opportunities.

Immediately after the convocation, everyone started asking me “what next!” , at first it was fun, but as more people keep asking me same question, I became nervous, restless and worried. But, I believe God has good plans for everyone.”

Gunmen had on Sunday afternoon invaded the correctional centre ostensibly to free inmates and engaged security personnel attached to the facility in a fierce gun duel.

Although they gained entrance to the yard, they are however trapped within as men from sister security services were immediately mobilised to assist the armed guards to cordon the perimeter wall and the entire area.

“Reinforcement from the response squad of the Service has also been mobilised to the center.

“The situation is presently under control as the attackers firing power is being subdued by superior fire from a combined team of security agencies. An update will be made available as the event unfolds.”
