Husband sends wife packing after finding N3.6m in her account whereas their son died over N25,000 hospital bills

A woman has reportedly been sent out of her matrimonial home by her husband after he made a shocking discovery regarding her finances.

The husband reportedly found out that she has N3.6 million in her personal account but she kept quiet about it while their son was battling in the hospital.

He made the discovery after their son died due to N25,000 hospital bills which they could not pay.

It was also gathered that the wife refused to make the payments owing to dispute with her husband who she claimed was not living up to his responsibility of catering for his household.

She maintained that the money in her account is her hard-earned money and that the man had no right to get angry and walk away from the marriage because she did not bring it out.

Nigerians have faulted both parents for not putting aside their differences to cater for their child who is now late.

becca__queen: This can’t be real..I refuse to believe this bullshit onG cus I wanna believe a mother if not the dead beat dad..a mother will drop everything just to see her child get better…so this must be fake

koda_moriss: Maybe the wife got tired of carrying the family…. Wetin even concern me sef

itz_raymaaly: I am not a judge and can’t judge any human for mistakes made from their own ignorance but this woman ehehe if I have a say make she just die coz she doesn’t deserve to live !!! She birthed that boy and seeing him dying should move her to do the extreme if she ever had love for that boy as a mother would

idikarhchoro: They are both not worthy to be called parents!
ifyike: There’s more to the story. Parents go about begging or borrowing to save a life. They both wanted the child dead.

mixx_yin: There’s a reason why mothers are mothers and worthy of the title this woman is not a mother cos mothers don’t care about whatever their children comes first

naija_rich_kids: So they both had funds and refused to pay. Your child’s health is not the weapon to use to make a point.

productreviewsbyressy: Probably saving to build a house in the village. Nigeria as a country and the so called parent failed their own child. Cruel to dwell on money when a child is in critical condition. Goodness lord.

Twitter’s Jack Dorsey appoints three Nigerians to head Bitcoin Trust fund

Twitter founder, Jack Dorsey, has appointed three Nigerians and one South African to act as the board of his Bitcoin Trust (BTrust) fund which will be disbursed for development in Africa and India.

In February, Dorsey, who resigned as Twitter CEO late November, had announced a BTrust [with the ‘B’ carrying bitcoin symbol] in collaboration with American rapper, Shawn “Jay Z” Carter.

BTrust is a fund with 500 BTC capital base worth N10,014,265,775.40 ($24,426,230), when pegged to late Monday’s market price $48,815.35, and will be managed by four Africans, without oversight from Dorsey or Jay Z.

In a late statement released on his Twitter page on Wednesday, Dorsey revealed the identities of the BTrust board, three of whom are Nigerians; Abubakar Nur Khalil, Obi Nwosu, Ojoma Ochai, and South African, Carla Kirk-Cohen.

Who are BTrust board members?

The individuals were selected from a pool of 7,000 applicants who applied to be on the board, which was initially meant to be occupied by three directors.

Obi Nwosu is the Co-founder of Coinfloor, a serd-level cryptocurrency startup, which has raised $300,000 in funding round.

Ojoma Ochai is the Managing Partner at CcHUBCreative (Co-Creation Hub), a technology innovation workspace, accelerating startup growth in Nigeria and selected part in Africa – CcHUB has raised $5.5 million to aid its operation.

Abubakar Nur Khalil is a bitcoin core contributor, and had received $50,000 in BTC for his work on Bitcoin wallet software from Human Rights Foundation (HRF) in May 2021.

Khalil is also the CTO of Recursive Capital, an earlyon-stage crypto VC fund, supporting founders building critical web 3.0 infrastructure.

Carla Kirk-Cohen is a software engineer at Lightning Labs. She previously worked for Luno, a South African cryptocurrency Exchange and Wallet firm, working on the crypto-ops team.

CBN rule to affect BTrust Nigerian beneficiaries

While the BTrust funds will be disbursed in India and Africa, it’s unsure how it will work in Nigeria considering the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has banned cryptocurrency activities in Nigeria.

This threatens the benefit available for Nigerians, although the court in the country has ruled that the CBN circular outlawing cryptocurrency isn’t law or supported by the constitution.

However, the CBN hasn’t publicly acknowledged the ruling, and the Godwin Emefiele-led financial regulator has continued to clampdown on bitcoin and possible crypto bank accounts through Nigerian commercial banks.

Any account that receives large amount and owned by a youth is targeted and closed by banks like Guaranty Trust Bank, Zenith Bank, Kuda and other industry players.

This creates a bottleneck around the channel the funds will be disbursed to Nigerian beneficiaries, considering the purpose, sender and recipient will likely be stated on documents.

Man returns thousands of dollars mistakenly paid into his account

A young Nigerian man, Olasupo Abideen, has received an award for his honesty after he returned the sum of $2397 (N991,159.50) which was mistakenly paid into his account in August 2021.

In a post on his Facebook page, the young man revealed the money was mistakenly paid into his account by a company he was consulting for.

According to Olasupo, what he did was normal but the society has become so rotten that such an honest act is frowned at.

His honest act caught the attention of the Gani Fawehinmi Integrity Awards and he was given a plaque on Friday, December 10.

He shared the good news on Facebook, writing;

“In August, when I refunded a 2397 US dollars that was paid mistakenly by an organisation I consulted for, it was simply the normal thing to do.

Unfortunately, however, our society has come to frown at such act. People are often described as dumb for returning money they found. For some, they lost an opportunity that came to them easily.

This has shown the depth of our moral crises and how we choose to celebrate ill-gotten wealth. People no longer care whether you make money legally, as long as you make the money.

The consequences of this seemingly new mindset has left our society in a terrible state.

Returning that money in August caught the attention of the Gani Fawehinmi Integrity Awards (GFIIA) and on Friday, 10th of December, I was awarded the Gani Fawehinmi Integrity award.

From 838 Nominations to 21 to 3 Finalist in my category and to being the recipient. I am grateful to you all that voted for me during the last stage most especially Egbon Ogundipe Segun.

I’m excited to be a recipient of such a prestigious award that was created in honour of a national icon, Late Gani Fawehinmi.

It is also an opportunity for me to remind Nigerians, especially young people, of the place of integrity, transparency and accountability in our daily actions. We cannot build a better society without holding on to these values.

I dedicate this award to my parents-Mr and Mrs Olasupo for instilling that discipline to me since I was young and to every young Nigerian striving to make their lives better while maintaining moral decency. Moral decency has become difficult to achieve today but we must not stop doing what is right.

Nigerian govt dismisses reports on nullification of weddings conducted at Ikoyi registry

The Federal Government on Tuesday evening dismissed as false and misleading reports that the Federal High Court, Lagos, has nullified all weddings conducted by the Ikoyi marriage registry.

The Eti Osa local government area of Lagos had in a suit marked FHC/ LS/CS/816/18 challenged the power of the Ministry of Interior to operate marriage registries, conduct weddings, and issue marriage certificates.

Reports claimed earlier on Tuesday that one Justice D. E. Osiagor, who ruled in the suit, declared that all marriages solemnized in the registry were invalid.

He held that only the local government marriage registries were empowered to solemnize unions between two people by the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

However, in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr. Shuaib Belgore, the federal government described reports on the annulment of weddings conducted by the registry as a “deliberate distortion” of the court’s decision.

The statement read: “The attention of the Ministry of Interior has been drawn to news making the rounds on social media claiming that the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has declared all Marriages conducted by Ikoyi marriage registry to be illegal and invalid.

“We would like to state that this statement is false, misleading and a deliberate distortion of the decision of the Court in Suit No:FHC/L/CS/816/18 between Eti-Osa Local Government Council & 3 others v. Honourable Minister of Interior and 2 others, where the Honourable Court held that only the Local Government councils can conduct valid marriages in Nigeria.”

”Religion is the number one problem for Nigerians” – Wole Soyinka

Nobel laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka has said that religion is the number one problem hindering Nigerians from being liberated as “rational beings.”

The revered author and playwright made the comment during a recent chat with a professor of African Literature, Dr. Louisa Egbunike.

He said; “All over the place, I find that religion has been cosseted too much. And liberty has been taken by religionists, which would not be considered to other movements which are considered secularists.

If you put on a garb of a religious leader, you can close up the expressway between Lagos and the rest of the nation, simply because you are having a religious celebration. You are just a fraction of the rest of the nation. And you should be accorded no special privileges. So, until that is done, people will always find something extra by belonging and manifesting, even to an extreme extent, your religious adhesions.

“Religion has become the number one problem for Nigerians. Hope is all very well; but hope itself can become putrid. Especially if it is hope for unearned advantages in society. If religion becomes an excuse for flouting the law, then that religion has got to be tackled head-on.

“If for instance a legislator, later a Governor, can claim the right to be a pedophile and indulge in cross-border child trafficking, celebrating child marriage, consummating that event, which is against the law of a nation, and he says he has a right to do it because his religion permits it; then both he and that religion should just be shown the way to the law courts and treated like other phenomena of society.

If you can use religion to excuse building a church which collapses on the head of humanity, many of them not from Nigeria, several from South Africa. And then you say it was caused by supernatural forces when you know very well that you flouted the conditions for increasing the floors of your building.

“So this is what has become the daily reality of Nigerians. So religion has got to be put in its place in order for people to be liberated as rational beings, beings of volition, who can tackle the problems of existence in a rational, collective way, rather than by insisting that it is only along one route that society can be transformed.

“Take a religion, practice it at home, collect around you anybody you want for collective celebration or religious seasons, nobody quarrels with that. But when you use religion to subvert the rights of others, to the extent of primordial rights, to kill, not just singling, but collectively, to burn down the places of worship of others; then it is about time we treated religion as a crime against humanity; it’s reached that level in societies like Nigeria.”

We spend over N120k to feed them every week – Mother of quadruplets

A woman who gave birth to quadruplets has spoken on the challenges of feeding all of them regularly.

Jenny Marr said her husband, Chris fainted when he was told they were expecting multiple kids.

The 36-year-old mother from the US said she spends $300 (N123,543) a week on food after giving birth to the surprise quadruplets. She also changes diapers at least 24 times a day.

According to Jenny, her husband got the shock of his life and fainted when he was told they would have multiple kids as they initially thought she was carrying one child.

She said that the sonographer initially told them they were expecting triplets. They then sought a specialist’s opinion who informed them that they would be having quadruplets.

Jenny also said the arrival of the quadruplets, Harrison, Hardy, Henry and Hudson, transformed their lives.

“Life has completely changed now that we suddenly have four babies to look after,” she said.

Woman dumped by her husband builds her own house after 4 years of riding okada

A Kenyan woman who had to start life afresh after her husband dumped her, has prevailed against all odds and become a homeowner within a space of four years.

In 2017, when Eunice Otieng’s husband left her for another woman, she would have never imagined that one day she would be a landlord because by then, she was having a myriad of challenges; one of them being that her ex-hubby left her with huge loans to service.

The mother of one however, picked the pieces up, started some new businesses and has now been able to build a house for herself.

Speaking in an interview with TUKO.co.ke, the mother of one recounted how she and her daughter became homeless after the landlord closed down their house due to months-long rent arrears.

However, being the strong woman she is, Otieng, who works as a nurse said she decided to start working as a commercial motorcycle rider.

I almost ran mad with my small salary. I had no option but to think about how to start life from zeros. I had a motorcycle which I took and I started boda boda job,” she said.

Being that her salary as a nurse was going into the repayment of the loans that she took for her ex-spouse, she did night shifts and so during the day, she hustled as an Okada rider.

She saved a sum of N94,000 and started a small business in 2018. Since she had a piece of land that she had bought before marriage, she started building her house.

”I decided that I will work hard for my baby to get the best. I think I was working hard with a lot of anger to change my life. That’s why I was able to finish the house,” Otieng said.

She also had savings for her baby and she decided to use them to build the rentals which she recently finished.

According to the hardworking Busia woman, she gifted her five-year-old daughter the rentals to heal the pain they went through when the landlord closed their house due to rent arrears.

“I gifted her the houses to wipe the tears we cried when the landlord was locking our house. I vowed to make her a landlady at this tender age,” she said.

Afenifere decries rising cultism, unruly acts among school children, tasks govt

The pan Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, on Friday bemoaned the rising act of cultism and hooliganism amongst secondary school students across the country.

This was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Afenifere National Publicity Secretary, Mr Jare Ajayi, in the aftermath of the recent rampage by students of Idogbo Secondary School in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo state, because they did not want to sit for the first-term examination.

He decried the students’ attack on the policemen who were called in by the school authority as well as beating up of teachers and setting the school properties on fire.

According to him, also on Dec. 4, a Senior Secondary School student, was reported to have beaten his teacher to death in Abraka, Delta State, for flogging his younger sister.

The spokesman said: “Cases of such unruly behaviour are now very rampant in the country.

The collapse of discipline and orderliness in our schools is reflective of the collapse of these virtues in the larger society.

“Until very recently, every adult in the society is respected by the young ones while teachers are revered very highly.

“No student would think of ambushing a teacher, not to talk of having the temerity to attack teachers in the school as happened in Edo and Delta States cases.”

He said that students now do these things with impunity, having observed that adults behave unruly in the open.

According to him, the nation’s moral values have collapsed and, making youngsters and students to get involved in drugs, cultism and banditry.

He urged the federal and state government agencies to redouble their efforts at preventing students from having access to drugs.
