A ghastly lone motor accident in Kurosha village, Bauchi State has claimed the lives of 3 Male adults while 16 others were injured.
A report from the Bauchi State Sector Command of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) from Ganjuwa Station office stated that the accident occurred at about 1813hrs and was reported at 1820hrs while operatives arrived at the scene for rescue operation at 1828hrs.
The accident which involved a Toyota Hiace commercial bus belonging to the fleet of Jigawa Sunrise occurred at Kurosha village 8mins, 1km away from Gadar Maiwa in Ningi LGA of Bauchi State along the Bauchi – Kano highway.
According to the FRSC, the cause of the accident was speed limit violation (SPV) and lost of control (LOC) by the driver.
A total of 20 passengers, 18 male adults, 1 female adult and 1 female child were involved in the accident out of which 16 comprising 15 male adults and 1 female adult were injured at various degrees.
All the accident victims including the dead were evacuated to Ningi General Hospital for treatment and confirmation of death after which the corpses were deposited at the mortuary.
The confirmation was jointly done by the FRSC STO in NINGI headed by DRC KM Chadi, STO of Ganjuwa LGA and the NPF, Kafin Madaki Division.
The FRSC therefore warned road users particularly commercial drivers to always adhere to the speed limit provision in order to minimize casualties in the cause of accident.

Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe has finally been reunited with her family after six years in jail in Iran.
The British-Iranian mother met her husband Richard Ratcliffe and her seven-year-old daughter Gabriella in the UK early this morning, March 17.
Video footage shows the aid worker breaking down in tears as she embraces her family, just moments after touching down at RAF Brize Norton just after 1am.
Gabby shouted “Mummy” before running towards her as she entered the building before her husband joined her for their reunion.
Gabby was just 1-year-old when her mother was arrested and jailed in Iran after she was accused of plotting to overthrow the Iranian government, which she denied.
In a message posted online, the Ratcliffe family said: “No place like home. Thank you to everyone who made this possible, to all of the care and campaigning, and diplomatic efforts. You have made us whole.”
Mr Richard Ratcliffe has been a prominent campaigner in the battle to secure his wife’s release and went on hunger strike in late last year for 21 days.
He said earlier that he was deeply grateful for her release and that he and Gabriella were “looking forward to a new life”.
The Kwara State High Court, Ilorin, on Tuesday convicted the duo of Abdulkareem Jamiu and Zakariyha Ibrahim for internet fraud.
The two men were arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged impersonation, love scam and other internet related frauds.
The defendants were convicted by Justices Adenike Akinpelu and Sikiru Oyinloye respectively.
They pleaded guilty to their charges.
Following their guilty pleas, the prosecutors, Innocent Mbachie and Aliyu Adebayo, called a witness each to review the facts of the cases.
The counsels told the court to consider the guilty plea entered by the defendants, the extra-judicial statements and all the exhibits tendered and convict them accordingly.
In her ruling, Justice Akinpelu held that the commission had successfully established the case against Jamiu and convicted him.
She sentenced the defendant to six months in prison with an option of N150,000 fine.
The judge ordered that one iPhone XR which he used to perpetrate the crime and the sum of N7.3 million recovered from him be forfeited to the Federal Government.
Justice Oyinloye sentenced Ibrahim to six months in prison with an option of N100,000 fine.
He ordered that the convict’s Infinix phone recovered from him at the point of arrest and the sum of 50 Canadian dollars which he got as restitution be forfeited to the federal government.
Three men have been arrested for impersonating staff of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) during the demolition of a property in Ogombo, Eti-Osa Local Government Area of the state.
The state’s Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako, who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, said the impostors embarked on the exercise to defraud the public and cause mayhem.
He said the men were arrested when they illegally pulled down a disputed property in the area.
Salako said: “They have since been handed over to the police for prosecution while one Adeyemi Ajose, who is believed to be their mastermind, is still at large.”
The commissioner assured that the imposters would be prosecuted and advised residents to report suspicious activities, particularly in the built environment to the ministry.
He stressed that the arrest of the trio would send a strong signal to others about the government’s determination to rid the sector of all forms of illegality.
He advised members of the public to be wary of fraudsters and always ascertain the identity of people parading themselves as public officials.
According to Sahara Reporters, the officer identified as Yahaya Abubakar was seen carrying Akanbi’s plate as she went about dishing food.

Hollywood actor, Jussie Smollett has filed new documents asking the court to overturn the guilty verdict of the jury against him in December 2021.
According to TMZ, his legal team is requesting a new trial unless the judge reverses the verdict and finds him not guilty of disorderly conduct for faking the police report.
Smollett claimed his constitutional rights were violated after his legal team was blocked from participating in the juror selection process.The actor was found guilty by the jurors of five of the six felony charges against him.
Smollett, 39, is in court for lying to police when he toldcops that admirers of former President Trump had beat him up for being black and gay in January 2019.

Over 600 African migrants were rescued Tuesday by Italian coastguard officials after their overcrowded fishing boats sank off the coast of Cape Spartinevo at the southern tip of Calabria.
The migrants were embarking on the dangerous trip across the Mediterranean sea in a bid to get into Europe when the over packed fishing boats sank.
According to the Italian police, among those recovered was the body of a person who “had already been dead for a few days.”
“A patrol boat rushed another person in need of immediate medical care to the Calabrian port of Roccella Ionica.
“The group included 59 minors, most of whom were unaccompanied by family members.
“The ship was on its way to the Sicilian port of Augusta where the refugees and migrants will be disembarked,” the police said.
So far this year, about 10,570 refugees and migrants have reached Europe by sea, and more than 1,400 others have attempted crossings by land or air,” the International Organization for Migration (IOM), said in another statement.
“Winter weather has not been a deterrent for people crossing the Mediterranean this year despite freezing temperatures and rough seas.
“About 229 have died or gone missing in their attempt to reach the continent,” the IOM added.
“So far this year, about 10,570 refugees and migrants have reached Europe by sea, and more than 1,400 others have attempted crossings by land or air,” the International Organization for Migration (IOM), said in another statement.
“Winter weather has not been a deterrent for people crossing the Mediterranean this year despite freezing temperatures and rough seas.

The umbrella body of youths groups in Ogoniland in the Niger Delta region, the Ogoni Youth Federation (OYF) and a group of former agitators under the aegies of Ogoni Ex-militants Forum, have put the Federal Government on notice of a pending peaceful protest which is expected to shut down the East-West road.
In a letter dated January 17 and addressed to the Federal Government through the office of the Inspector General of Police, the OYF and the ex-militants, alongside other groups in the Niger Delta, say they will embark on the peaceful protest from March 1 to 31, on the Ogoni section of the East West road, running from Onne to Eleme Junction, owing to the failure of the government to complete work on the road.
The letter which was sighted by Ripples Nigeria was jointly signed by Comrade Legborsi Yamaabana, President-General, Ogoni Youth Federation; Prince Mahmud Kirika, Leader, Ogoni Ex-Militants Forum; Hon. Walter Ejire, Eleme Youths; Comrade Ibim Ibiwari, Chairman,Ijaw Youth Council, Eastern Zone; and Tamunobelema Tamunoimama, Publicity Secretary, Rivers State Ethnic Youth Leaders Coalition (RSEYLC).
It also requested for police presence for the purpose of security during the protest.
Part of the letter reads:
“The protest which shall last for several weeks is as a result of the following:
Failure of the Federal Government to commence work on the Ogoni axis of the East West road.
“Failure to transfer the East West road from the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs to the Presidential Infrastructure Development Fund (PIDF) as directed by the President and Commander-In-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Recall that the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria had, during Ogoni leaders’ visit on him in State House on the 22nd October, 2021, directed that the Ogoni axis of the east west road be transferred to the PIDF to ensure completion and delivery of the project within the lifespan of this current administration.
“Regrettably, more than three (3) months after, this directive is yet to be complied with.
“For the records, the OGONI YOUTH FEDERATION demonstrated and carried out several peaceful protests over the deplorable state of this road, chief among which was the 7-days long protest which lasted from July 26th to August 1st, 2021.
We wrote a letter dated November, 11th, 2021, to the Chief of Staff to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria requesting the official transfer of the road from Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs to the Presidential Infrastructure Development Fund but our request fell on deaf ears, as we do not get the mere courtesy of a response from the office of the Chief of Staff.
“We view this as an attempt to neglect, hoodwink and ridicule us. This is injustice of the highest order and it is not acceptable!”
In the letter, the youths promised that the protest shall be peaceful, non-violent, carried out within the ambit of the law and shall not lead to a breach of public peace.
Senior Pastor of Salvation Ministries, Pastor David Ibiyeomie has declared that those who fail to remit their tithes to church are criminals.
Speaking on Sunday, the televangelist who likened tithing to payment of tax to the government, said remitting 10 percent of all incomes to church is compulsory.
According to him, failure to pay tithe just like tax avoidance, is a punishable offense.
Ibiyeomie said; “Tax is the government’s share, so you don’t say I want to give the government my tax, you say you want to pay tax, that is how tithe is God’s own. Leviticus 27:30. God is the owner of the tithe. So, what do you do?
“You pay, it’s only in Nigeria you don’t pay tax and they can leave you, in the Western world it is a big criminal offence, if you don’t pay tithe, you are a criminal, your offence is punishable, tithe is simply one-tenth of your income, 10 per cent of your income goes to God.”
Pastor Ibiyeomie also argued that some Christians experience near success syndrome because of their reluctance in paying their tithes.
He said; “Near success syndrome will not happen. If you’re experiencing near success syndrome don’t go for deliverance, you’re not a tither. Anything that I do, when it is close to manifestation, the thing will just go off, you’re not a faithful tither.
“Many deliverance ministries, they just go for deliverance, this is the problem, they don’t pay Tithe faithfully. Yet, they will say anything I want to do, when it is about to click it will just go off.
“It is near success syndrome. Correct it from tithing, don’t correct it from seven days deliverance. Hear this, tithe must be paid first otherwise the curse will remain”.
The Federal Government will meet with the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) in a bid to end the union’s warning strike on Tuesday.
The union embarked on a 30-day warning strike on February 14 over the federal government’s failure to honour agreements signed by both parties.

The Deputy Director of Press and Public Relations in the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Charles Akpan, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Abuja.
He said the Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen. Chris Ngige, would meet with the ASUU executives and other relevant government agencies at the minister’s conference room in Abuja.

A judge at the Court of Appeal, Owerri, Justice Rita Pemu, on Sunday survived a kidnap attempt in Anambra State.
The Secretary of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Owerri Branch, Chinedu Agu, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in the Imo State capital.
He said the incident occurred along Azia-Orsumoghu-Ihiala road in Anambra State, adding that the judge’s driving was still missing.
.Agu said: “On Sunday, February 20, 2022, the Presiding Justice of the Court of Appeal while traveling to Owerri from Benin City was kidnapped along Azia-Orsumoghu-Ihiala road at about 11:00 a.m.
When the Chairman of the Bar, J.I. Ogamba and the Secretary, Chinedu Agu, paid the Lordship a visit at 5:00 p.m. today, the Secretariat gathered that the kidnappers double-crossed the Lordship’s vehicle, disembarking her and ordering her to prostrate on the road while pointing guns menacingly on her head.
Justice Pemu, who was rather in her Hiace Bus instead of her SUV and was dressed in a simple, spartan and free-flowing gown was mistaken by the kidnappers as one of ‘oga’s stewards’, as they kept demanding to know in which car their ‘oga’ (boss) was.
“While she was marched into a thick forest, one of the kidnappers, the Secretariat gathered, was boasting that he would have wasted their oga if he were there.
“As the Lordship was marched into the bush-like a death-destined sheep to the slaughter, gunshots and concomitant cries of anguish pervaded the bush, which heightened her apprehension.
“As of the time of filing this report, her official cars, driver and personal property inside the car are yet to be found.”
Four operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were on Monday killed by a bomb suspected to be planted by members of the Boko Haram sect in Galadima Kogo, Shiroro local government area of Niger State.
The NSCDC spokesman, Olusola Odumosu, who confirmed the incident to journalists in Abuja, said the victims were killed after the agency’s operational vehicle was hit by the Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
He added that the driver of the vehicle was seriously injured in the blast.
Odumosu said: “A bomb explosion in the early hours of Monday rocked an operational vehicle of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps at Galadiman Kogo axis in Shiroro local government area of Niger State, killing four operatives instantly.
“The driver of the vehicle was seriously injured in the blast and had been rushed to the hospital where he is currently battling for his life.
“The affected officers were attached to Shiroro Hydro Power Station in Shiroro, Niger State.”
The Federal Government on Sunday called for understanding from Nigerians as the fuel scarcity entered its second week.
The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, made the call in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Horatius Egua.
The minister assured Nigerians that the federal government was working assiduously to ensure the adequate distribution of petroleum products in the coming days.
“It is not a time to trade blames as is customary in Nigeria. It is, therefore, not a time to query anyone but a time to come together to salvage the plight of the average Nigerian.
After the storm settles, there will be time enough to investigate and get to the bottom, so that this does not repeat itself.
“President Muhammadu Buhari’s charge to all parties and agencies concerned is to work together to ensure that normalcy returns quickly.
The Nigerian people deserve the best and the government is determined to set the country on the right path of petroleum products availability and sustainability.
“In the last weeks, Nigerians have grappled with fuel scarcity not because of the absence of supply of products but due to inspection failure, which allowed adulterated products into the country.
“This is regrettable, and the Federal Government sympathises with the citizenry over the unforeseen hardship, occasioned by the inevitable scarcity.
“Let me once again appeal to Nigerians to be patient with the government in finding lasting solutions to the crisis.”
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Sunday accused the Federal Government of insincerity in addressing issues concerning the country’s education sector.
The union embarked on a 30-day warning strike last Monday following the federal government failure to honour agreements signed by both parties.
The ASUU Chairman, University of Ibadan chapter, Prof. Ayo Akinwole, stated this in a statement in Ibadan.
He decried the refusal of the federal government to improve the conditions of ASUU members despite the death of some members.
Akinwole said: “Due to stress arising from failure of the federal government to recruit more staff, ASUU has lost many of her members to death while others have simply moved out of the country in search of greener pastures.
The federal government lacks integrity. It is sad. The government cannot be trusted longer. We have been on the same salary for 13 years and it is even shameful to show anyone your payslip.
“When compared to the work we do, we have sacrificed for Nigeria to the detriment of our wellbeing and this is already dampening the morale of our people.
“Federal government should sign the renegotiated agreement, implement it, roll out UTAS, pay unpaid earned academic allowances, and commit more funds into the revitalization of universities.”
National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu has told Nigerian youths that they can only become president of the country after he has become one.
The 69-year-old former Lagos state governor said this on Sunday during a visit to the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi.
Speaking in Yoruba, he said; “You won’t give room for the elderly to pass and you haven’t become president. What if you become president, you will chase us out of town?

Two former policemen, James Ejeh and Simeon Abraham have been convicted by a Federal High Court in the Federal Capital Territory.
Ejeh and Abraham were handed a death sentence by Justice Peter Kekemeke on Thursday, Feb 17, 2022.
They were originally arraigned on October 20, 2017 by the Police on two counts bordering on conspiracy and armed robbery.
Delivering judgment on Thursday, Justice Kekemeke held that the prosecutor proved his case by calling four witnesses and their evidence corroborated the prosecutor’s case beyond any reasonable doubt.
He held that the evidence before the court proved that, there was a robbery by the defendants and they were also armed.
He added that there was an admission of guilt by the defendants and no evidence was stronger than their own admission.
The prosecution counsel, Kufureabasi Ebong, had told the court that on January 17, 2017, at about 1am, the defendants (police officers), were dressed in their uniforms as they robbed one Christe Maker of her personal belongings while coming from the Abuja airport.
He added that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 6 and 1(2) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special provisions) Act, 2004.
