A woman was eaten by her 20 cats after she collapsed at her home and was not discovered by police for two weeks.
Police were alerted by one of the woman’sΒ employees who said she could not contact her boss.
When police arrived at the home in Bataysk, Rostov region, Russia, they found the partially eaten remains of the woman with the hungry cats surrounding her.
Police believe she had been dead for two weeks as they probed her decomposing remains.
“The cats were left alone on their own for two weeks, there was no food, so what else to eat?” said one animal rescue expert who cared for some of the surviving cats.
“It’s understandable right? They ate what there was.”
The cats have now been given to new owners for just Β£29 each.
Studies have found that cat owners who die at home risk being eaten alive by their hungry pets.
Gunmen attacked two police checkpoints in Nsukka, Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, killed one officer and set a patrol vehicle ablaze.
It was gathered that the attack occurred in the early hours of Friday morning, June 17.Β
The officer was killed at Umanu junction in Nsukka while a police vehicle was torched along Ibeagwa-Ani road.
An eyewitness told NAN that residents heard sporadic gunshots around 6:20 am. Afterward, they rushed to the junction and found the lifeless policeman on the ground.
“I quickly rushed to my doors to ensure that all of them were well locked. I switched off all electric lights in my house and told my wife and children to keep quiet because I thought it was armed robbers,β he said.
He said after the gunshots stopped, he joined people rushing to the junction and found the lifeless body of the policeman on the ground.
“They said the policeman was killed during a gun duel between the police team on the checkpoint and the gunmen,β he said
A trader, who was a witness at the Ibeagwa-Ani Road incident where police van was set ablaze said that he was in a commercial bus going to Nkwo Ibeagwa-Ani Market when they sighted police van on fire with five armed men who masked their faces watching the vehicle.
“Our driver quickly reversed and drove to a safer distance where we watched until the gunmen zoomed off shooting sporadically. When we reached the scene of the incident the van had already burnt to ashes, we stopped like other road users for some minutes and continued our journey,” he said.
Spokesperson of the State Police Command, Daniel Ndukwe, has confirmed the incident.Β
“There was an attack on operatives in Nsukka today but the details are still sketchyβ, he said.

Britney Spears has deactivated her Instagram again after slamming her family for their alleged treatment of her during her now-terminated conservatorship.
The 40-year-old pop star’s Instagram account currently has a ‘sorry, this page isn’t available’ message.Β
Back in March, she also took down her Instagram page after posting about her conservatorship.
Shortly before deleting her Instagram account this week, sheΒ lamented over how her sons Sean Preston and Jayden James ‘don’t need me anymore’ and ban her from ‘showing recent pics of us’ but she ‘respects their wishes.’Β
In August 2018, the singer was downgraded from 50-50 to 30-70 custody of 16-year-old Sean and 15-year-old Jayden from her two-year marriage to former backup dancer Kevin Federline, which ended in 2007.
On Wednesday, she insistedΒ ‘never invited’ her older brother Bryan Spears, 45, to her wedding to Sam AsghariΒ despite hisΒ girlfriend previously citing a scheduling conflict as the reason for his absence.
The pop star set the record straight in a lengthy text post about her conservatorship,Β she slammed Bryan and the rest of the Spears family for their alleged treatment of her during her now-terminated conservatorship.
Britney also touched on the fact she ‘didn’t drink a sip of alcohol’ on her special day because she’d been ‘drug tested at least 3 times a week’ for the past 13 years and was never allowed to drink.
‘You were never invited to my wedding so why even respond ?? Do you honestly think I want my brother there whole told me no to a Jack and coke for 4 years β¦ what ???’ wrote Britney in Tuesday’s post.
She’d claimed that Bryan’s go-to drink was ‘a Jack and coke’ and that he’d have it ‘every night’ in Las Vegas while she headlined a four-year residency at Planet Hollywood. Britney said that he ‘would never even let me have a sip’ of the drink and accused him of being on the same power trip as her father Jamie Spears.
She continued: ‘If we were going to drink together at the wedding and play the classy roles for the children like you and mom [Lynne Spears] do as you people literally hid coffee and alcohol when I would come home , you hurt me and you know it !!!
Britney and 28-year-old Sam, who began dating in 2015, tied the knot last Thursday at her Thousand Oaks home.
A London-based church group, Salvation Proclaimer Ministries Limited (SPAC Nation) owned by flamboyant Nigerian Pastor Tobi Adegboyega, has been ordered to shut down their operations after failing to properly account for more than Β£1.87m of outgoings, and operating with lack of transparency.
SPAC Nation which was incorporated in 2012 to advance Christianity, was wound up in aΒ High Court on 9 June 2022 before Judge Burton, government agency The Insolvency Service announced on Friday June 17.
The enquiries found that SPAC Nation failed to comply or only partially complied with statuary requirements, such as providing data to support claimed donations and accounting records in support of Β£1.87 million of expenditure.
In the two years to 31st December 2019, the companyβs financial statements set out Β£610,000 of rent, despite not having a single base of its own as they would hire venues across London to hold services.
Investigators also interviewed one of the companyβs directors, Adedapo Olugbenga Adegboyega, also known as Pastor Dapo, who claimed the church group had over 2,000 members and 200 ordained ministers and pastors. However, he failed to provide information to support these claims.
The court concluded that the church, once hailed by UK politicians as a beacon of hope for ex-gang members, operated with a lack of transparency, filed suspicious or incorrect accounts, and was insolvent at the time of the hearing.
Edna Okhiria, chief investigator for the Insolvency Service, said:
βWhile SPAC Nation claimed it had noble intentions to support vulnerable and young people, our enquiries uncovered a different side of the charity.
βThere were clear concerns around how the church group managed its affairs and SPAC Nation failed to properly account for income received from donations and other expenditure.
βThe court recognised the severity of SPAC Nationβs actions and this sends a strong message that proper records and accounts must be maintained, even if youβre a charity.β
Though an organisation can be forced to adminstratively close and cease to exist under that name on the Companies House register, companies can appear under a different name and this has previously been known to happen.
SPAC Nation rebranded as Nxtion Family in June 2020, a month after head pastor Tobi Adeboyega announced he was stepping down as leader, though he has remained at the helm of the organisation.
The Gombe State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Thursday, June 16, confirmed the death of nine persons in a road accident.
The Sector Commander, Felix Theman, said the accident occurred at the Bomala junction on the Gombe southern bye-pass at about 8pm, on Wednesday, June 15, as a result of brake failure from a trailer conveying gallons of vegetable oil.
Theman said 20 persons were involved in the accident with nine confirmed dead and 11 others sustaining varying degrees of injuries.
He said the injured victims were evacuated to the Gombe Specialists Hospital and the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe (FTHG) for treatment.
The sector commander advised drivers against speeding, especially in overcrowded areas, saying the speed limit within the metropolis must not exceed 40 kilometre per hour.
Meanwhile, the driver of the trailer truck, Babayaro Muhammad, who survived, said he lost control of the truck when the break of the vehicle failed.
Babayaro said because of the darkness of the night he could not ascertain the number of vehicles he ran into.
“The break failed and I lost control of the truck and ran into several vehicles,β he said.

South African music producer, Master KG has opened up on his alleged rift with singer Nomcebo Zikode after their “Jerusalema” hit.
KG who produced the song, told DRUM that they have a misunderstanding which might be resolved. He also admitted that they’ve not spoken for a long time.
The music producer said;
“There is no drama with me and Nomcebo, just a misunderstanding here and there.
βThe issues are with her and Open Mic, not me. We donβt have an issue, well, from my side. She said she was not paid. At the end of the day, the masters are owned by Open Mic, both her and I are just performing artists, and they need to resolve the issue with splits and stuff.
βWe havenβt spoken in a long time, I see her posts and I like them. I also understand that she is busy, and we are always touring. Maybe soon, when the matter is resolved we will get together and celebrate the success of the song.β
KG also saidΒ he will like to work with Nomcebo in the future.Β
βI would definitely like to make more music with Nomcebo in the future. She has her own unique style and her own way of making things happen. I believe the success of the song was not from one side. It was me and her getting together and making it happen.” he said
βJerusalemaβ is the biggest song the two of them have released to date. Ordinarily, it should have been a cause for unity and celebration. But it has somehow divided them.
In July 2021, South Africans were startled after Nomcebo revealed that she had not been paid her royalties despite Jerusalemaβs international success.
Things got heated when Master KG quickly took to his Twitter to denounce the claims, alleging that the vocalist had received money, but later deleted his tweets. He accused NomceboΒ of being greedy for allegedlyΒ demanding 70% royalties from the song instead of the agreed 50%.
Responding to this, Nomcebo made it clear that the producer was not her boss and that her issue is with the record company.
Celebrity Chef, Gbubemi Fregene, took to his social media handle to raise alarm aboutΒ a lady who he did business with sometime back after she sent him a suicidal message.

Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Most Rev. Mathew Hassan Kukah has said that democracy is not developing at the right pace in Nigeria because those making the laws are benefiting from the system.
The Convener of the National Peace Committee who spoke in an interview on Channels Television, stated that as long as politicians make the rules, there would not be an improvement in the country.
Kukah said;
βThe problem with Nigeriaβs situation is that the sinners are the ones trying to make the law. These are the consequences of where we find ourselves now.
βI speak to the fact that as long as the universities are the way they are, as long as we do not have privileged intellect and the diagnostic tools required to refine processes, as long as we are hoping that politicians are the ones to set their own rules, as long as we expect that almost all of these are politics, there would not be an improvement in the country.
βIn my view, had it been we have a country that is working, a country that takes research seriously, it is the business of political scientists to equip the people in power with the required tools for analysis, to the options that are available to ensure things go the way they should go.
βBut unfortunately, if you have a situation where the universities are not funded, the country itself behaves as if it wants to close the universities, what else do you expect?
βUnless and until this government and other government in Nigeria takes academic exercise very seriously, we can not expect the person who is sick to be the one to provide the medicine for his cure.β
Kukah also acknowledged that the amendment in the electoral law would instil greater confidence in Nigeriaβs democracy.
He added;
βGradually, as the quality of peopleβs lives is increasing, people can become a little bit relaxed but for now, politics in Africa and Nigeria seems to be a bit tense because of the nature of the sharing of the political benefits.
βIf people in power continue to practise nepotism when people feel that they have voted and the people who are benefiting are those who have just come out of the comfort of their rooms, they are bound to feel frustrated. These are ingredients for violence in Nigerian politics.β
A couple who allegedly made a vulnerable Nigerian woman ‘perform forced labour’ in their home in east Belfast, United Kingdom, will be sentenced for the slavery offence on June 27, 2022, a court has heard.
The Nigerian couple, Osarobo ‘John’ Izekor,36, and his 29-year-old wife, Precious Izekor, will also have to pay their victim Β£10,000 in compensation, BelfastΒ Telegraph reported.Β
The husband and wife, with an address at Ashmount Gardens in Lisburn, admitted that on dates between September 1, 2016 and September 30, 2017 they ‘required another person to perform forced or compulsory labour’.
While the victim was forced to carry out domestic duties, a majority of the criminality by the Izekors was unpaid childcare.
The case, which was heard at Belfast Crown Court, is one of the first prosecutions under the Human Trafficking and Exploitation Act (NI) 2015.
The couple admitted keeping the Nigerian woman as a domestic slave in their then Castlereagh Place home in Belfast for a ten-month period.
Crown barrister Charles MacCreanor said the woman who could not read or write – arrived in Northern Ireland in 2011 and worked as a nanny for a five-year period.
When her employer returned to Nigeria in Autumn 2016, she moved into Castlereagh Place and was told money would be sent back to her family for any work she undertook.
During the ten-month period of offending, the woman had her own room and was given food and clothes – but was not paid any money.
In addition, the Izekors had possession of her passport and other documents, which she didn’t have access to.
Mr MacCreanor said that whilst living with the Izekors, the woman was in contact with a relative of John’s, who expressed a desire for her to return to Nigeria so they could get married.
This relative asked the woman about her documentation and Visa status, and when she raised this issue with Precious, an argument ensued.
Despite her request for her documents, they were not handed over to the woman and the argument led to a “deterioration of relations”.
Following this, the woman tried to look for her passport and other documents when Precious Izekor was out. A few days later, she left the Izekors and went to stay with a friend.
This friend, the court heard, was concerned for the woman, felt she was being exploited and accompanied her to the Home Office.
When a Home Office official called at the Izekors’ home, Precious was asked about the woman, and denied knowing her.
An investigation was launched which resulted in the involvement of the PSNI and the subsequent arrests of both John and Precious Izekor.
During his police interview, John Izekor initially denied any wrong-doing and made the case they were letting the women stay in their home and were helping her.
In her interview, Precious told officers the woman was a family friend and was never asked to do any form of work or labour.
Mr MacCreanor said there were text messages between the husband and wife which indicated the control they had over the woman whilst she was living with them.
He also said that she spoke to police about her ordeal, the woman said she felt isolated and alone whilst living with the couple.
Defence barrister Barry Gibson, representing John Ikezor, said that following his arrest his client spent three months on remand.
He also spoke of Izekor’s university education, extensive work history and his clear criminal record.
Precious Izekor’s barrister Gavan Duffy QC revealed there was a former good relationship between the two women, and said there was a complete lack of violence or physical assault.
After listening to submissions from both the Crown and defence, Judge Richard Greene QC spoke of the complexities of the case and said he wanted to consider several issues before passing sentence.
After being told that the Izekors had previously lodged Β£10,000 to the court to act as a surety for bail, the judge ordered that this money be paid to the woman they kept as a domestic slave.
Judge Greene told the couple the charge they pleaded guilty to was “an extremely serious offence” and released them on continuing bail ahead of sentencing, which is set to take place on June 27, 2022.
President, Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, Commission, Jean-Claude Brou, has cautioned member states on the spread ofΒ Monkeypox.
He gave the warning while presenting the commissionβs report on the implementation of the Community Work Programme at this yearβs First Ordinary Session of ECOWAS Parliament, in Abuja.
According to him, the West African Health Organisation, WAHO, is currently monitoring the development of the virusβ outbreak and evolving measures at containing its spread.
He said:βWe have 36 confirmed cases of Monkeypox in some member states (I will not mention their names), there are some suspected cases, and two deaths have occurred already.
βUnlike COVID-19, this disease is contracted by close contact with an infected person. The vaccine offers small protection and the medication has an impact.
βWAHO is monitoring the development of the disease to prevent a pandemic, and it is also very important for citizens to be very vigilante, keep an eye on the evolution of the disease.β
Brou expressed satisfaction at the reduction in COVID-19 cases globally, a situation he said had made some countries lift movement restrictions and preventive measures.
He added that it was imperative for ECOWAS citizens to remain vigilant and the governments to learn from the COVID-19 pandemic in addressing other diseases like monkeypox, cholera and lassa fever.
The ECOWAS president said lessons so far learnt from the COVID-19 pandemic would be useful in curbing the spread of monkeypox and listed such lessons to include strengthening health systems and building capacities for local vaccine production,
He said: βEven though we observed improvement through the significant reduction in contamination, we need to continue to be vigilant and keep an eye on this pandemic.
βCompared to December 2021, the numbers have gone down, we have a very significant reduction in the numbers of confirmed cases. This is encouraging but let us remain vigilant.β
ββYou will see that about eight months ago, we had about 23 million doses administered, but today we have 63 million. So there is a significant increase in the numbers of vaccinated persons.
βBut let us remain vigilant and draw lessons from pandemics because there will always be pandemics.
βCOVID-19 reminds us that we are not sheltered form outbreaks. Let us draw lessons from it band in particular, there are two lessons that we need to learn.
βFirst, we need to strengthen our health systems and make them more effective, efficient and
capable of responding to difficult situations that can come up at anytime. Besides, we always have risk factors in our region.
βThe second lesson is capacity for research and manufacturing of vaccines ,because COVID has shown that we were and still are lagging behind in spite of efforts that are being made to make-up for these lapses.ββ
Awaji Abiante, a member of ECOWAS Parliament and Nigerian lawmaker, representing Andoni-Opobi/Nkoro Federal Constituency of Rivers, however, decried the low level of vaccination of citizens.
The lawmaker, who noted that only 17.20 per cent of West African population had been vaccinated, called for increased vaccination.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities declared a comprehensive and total strike four months ago in order to compel the Federal Government to act on a variety of issues that have lingered between both parties for years.
Since the strike was declared in February, there has been little progress in the deliberations.
Instead, meetings continue to end in deadlocks; banquets, fanfare, party conventions, primary elections, and political campaigns are the order of the day, while the crumbling education sector continues to receive sparse attention.
The PUNCHΒ spoke to some of these students who expressed their frustration with the Federal Governmentβs lackadaisical attitude to their plight.
A final year student of Bayero University, Kano, Zainab Olayinka, revealed that she has βlocked away the studentβ in herself in order to avoid feeling depressed.
βI have been coping by not letting the thought of it cross my mind too often. It is like I have just locked away the student in me just so I donβt slip into depression,β she said.
Zainab has also taken to interning in an organisation that keeps her connected to her school studies. Additionally, she has ventured into ghostwriting in order to keep herself busy.
βThe strike keeps making you alter several life plans. While I know plans are not static, the strike mostly puts me in a bad place in terms of missing out on opportunities just because there is a particular requirement and it is connected with my academic certificate.
It makes you grow older, and then when you are finally out of school they tell you, you need certain years of experience after delaying so much. It is so unfair,β she said.
Chinedu Chisom Uzochukwu a 300 Level student of University of Nigeria, Nsukka, said he has βnot been copingβ well with the protracted strike which has also left him drained.
βItβs been hell in a way,β he said. βI mean, aside from missing school life, itβs been draining. I donβt even know if Iβve been coping mentally.β
Like Zainab, Chinedu has also started his interning with a law firm after boredom got the best of him while staying at home.
Speaking on the effects of the strike as regards his future plans, Chinedu confessed that while the consequences are not pressing in the short term, he feels a diversion of his interests in education to entrepreneurship is imminent.
An anonymous respondent who is currently in their penultimate year at Bayero University, Kano, agonised over the fact that their school ID card projects that they should be graduating this year.
The student said, βThe fact that this (graduation) is not happening reveals how this affects every youth in a public university in Nigeria.
βThe delay affects our long term future plans. It makes us sit and watch those from private universities grow and become who they want without much delay while we are being held at the mercies of ASUU and the Federal Government.β
A 300 Level Law student of the University of Ilorin who simply identifies as Subomi, said the announcement of the strike in February came at first as a welcome development.
This is because the previous school session had been rushed due to a previous strike that lasted nine months in 2020.
However, Subomi said when the present strike began to cross the thresholds of its first couple of months, she started feeling βdepressed and downβ
Subomi who has now ventured into trading, also empathised with her friends who neither have jobs or other things to keep them occupied, as the strike might have a worse effect on them.
She noted how it was the previous 2020 strike that ultimately drove her to start a business which now occupies most of her time.
The law student said, βThe first strike we had during the pandemic affected me a lot. I was reluctant to do anything relating to school. I was just tired and I lost interest. Then I started my business around that time. I started seeing money, and consequently started seeing school as a by-the-way thing.
βWith this present strike, Iβm trying to make money and really focus on money. Iβm not bothered about school. I know by the time we resume this will affect me a lot as I would have to try getting comfortable in the school environment again.β
To top it all, Subomi promises to ensure her child βdoes not attend a Federal University so that they donβt have to go through this.β
Conversely, for Oladipo, a 400 level student of the University of Lagos, the strike has been a blessing. According to him, he underwent a surgery last year and the break has given him time to properly heal.
While he has not been βfeelingβ empty as much, Oladipo confessed that sometimes he feels like honing his skills in Software Programming and Project Development but has not really been βgingered to do anything productive.β
Oladipo also expressed optimism about the strike saying he does not see it as a delay.
βI donβt think the strike will affect me as a youth. While people see strikes as a delay, I just see it as time to do other things thatβll be beneficial for me and my life. It gives me time to think about how life after school will be, because this is just a preview.
βIf you have finished school, this is how life will be. You will just be home chilling, looking for how to break into the next stage of your life. If you can use the time allotted to you between strikes to do that, I donβt think your future will be very much affected. In my industry (Computer science), the degree honestly doesnβt mean that much, what matters more is experience,β he said.
The last development on the strike was another meeting which was held on Monday, in which negotiations by both the Federal Government and the Union led to no concrete conclusions.
ASUU has accused the Federal Government for failing to βsatisfactorilyβ implement the Memorandum of Action it signed with the Union in December 2020, on funding for revitalisation of public universities (both Federal and states), renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ ASUU Agreement, and the deployment of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution.
Other demands listed by the Union include Earned Academic Allowances, State Universities, promotion arrears, withheld salaries, and non-remittance of third-party deductions.
The police in Rivers State have smashed a child trafficking syndicate and rescued a five-year-old girl sold for N600,000 to an undisclosed buyer in Imo State.
The child was said to have been kidnapped from Omagwa community in the Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State after she went missing on May 20, 2022.
The state Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka, disclosed this while parading 30 suspects arrested for various crimes at the police headquarters in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
Eboka said the suspects would be charged to court at the conclusion of investigations.
Fast-rising Nigerian artiste, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has called out colleague, Damini Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy, for allegedly copying his mannerisms and style.
The Zazu singer took to his Instagram page on Wednesday where he posted a clip of Burna Boy saying, βakoi grace, akoi mercy, akoi blessing, akoi space, akoi biza biza. Blessing follow you.β
According to Okikiola, the phrases are part of his mannerisms and have become synonymous with his brand.
He also referenced a tweet where Burna Boy posted a picture of Portable and captioned it, βDeep down I really want this to be my album cover. Love, Damini.β
Nigerian international superstar, Tems has been diagnosed of Reflux Laryngitis , which requires her to take time off to protect what’s left of her voice.
She revealed this via her instagram page and showed her displeasure upon getting the doctor’s report.
Troops of the 26 Task Force Brigade, on Tuesday, found one Mrs Mary Ngoshe, who, according to the Nigerian Army, is believed to be one of the kidnapped girls from Government Girlsβ Secondary School, Chibok, in 2014.
Ngoshe, who was found with a child believed to be hers, was intercepted by the troops while on patrol around Ngoshe in Borno State.
This is contained in a tweet posted to the Nigerian Armyβs verified Twitter page, @HQNigerianArmy, on Wednesday morning.
The tweet reads, βTroops of 26 Task Force Brigade on patrol around Ngoshe in Borno State on 14 June 2022 intercepted one Mrs Mary Ngoshe and her son. She is believed to be one of the abducted girls from GGSS Chibok in 2014. Further exploitation ongoing.β

βThank God for the swift response of the management, security and medical team who eventually sedated the victims and took them to a hospital around 12.45am,β the Instagram post read.
Also, a message the lovers pasted on the door leading of their apartment read, βIf you open this door, you will be cursed.β
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the incident was not reported to the police.
The Chairman, VGC, Gihan Mbelu, said the couple acted under the influence of drugs, adding that he took them to a hospital and they were discharged after two days.
He said, βThe incident happened around 8pm on Saturday. Before I got there, passersby had already taken pictures and made a video of the two young people. I am using this medium to tell people to stay away from drugs.β
