A girl died in a car after her parents left her inside with the doors locked to attend a funeral.
Sadia, 4, had arrived for the funeral service with her family in Ramhormoz, Iran, while temperatures outside reached 49C.
She was sleeping when she was left in the car, where the mercury climbed to 79C inside – which is hot enough to roast a chicken.
By the time her parents realized she was in the car, Sadia was found unconscious.
Medics confirmed the girl died from heat stroke and suffocation.
The head of Ramhormoz’s forensics department Dr Gholamreza Haidarnejad said: “A young couple left their four-year-old child sleeping in a car when they went to mourn the little girl’s aunt.
“The parents who decided not to wake the child then forgot her because of their distress during the funeral.
“The child was left in the car for several hours in hot, sunny weather and the car doors were locked.”
The doctor added that the child died because of stress, heat intensity and lack of oxygen.
The devastated couple is receiving counselling and local police are investigating the tragedy.
A schoolboy suddenly collapsed and died in class 30 minutes after telling his grandma “I love you”.
Ted Sanderson, 14, died at Woodham Academy in County Durham, England, on Tuesday, June 21.
The schoolboy was rushed to James Cook University Hospital, but medics were unable to save his life.
His sudden death has left his family, friends and wider school community in shock.
Lynn Wilson, his grandmother, said: “He was a gorgeous boy. He knew everything.
“He was so much fun and he had so much character. He was perfect.
“He loved everything about life. I can’t think how we are going to live without him. We are going to have to get though this together.”
Ted, who lived with his grandparents Lynn and Keith and dad Eddie, was passionate about music, loved fishing and shooting and wanted to one day become a teacher.
Describing the last time she saw him on Tuesday, Ted’s grandma said: “He went down the drive. Before he went out I said ‘I love you, have a good day’ and he said ‘I love you nan’.
“He was scrunching up his hair the way he always did to make it as big as he could. Half an hour later we got a call from the school to say he had collapsed. We didn’t know what had happened but then there was no coming back.”
Disgraced British socialite and convicted sex offender, Ghislaine Maxwell should serve at least 30 years in prison for her role in the sexual abuse of teenage girls, US prosecutors have said ahead of a sentencing hearing.
The British socialite and former accomplice to billionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein is currently awaiting sentencing.
She was convicted in December of recruiting teenage girls for US financier Jeffrey Epstein to sexually abuse from 1994 to 2004. He killed himself, aged 66, in a New York federal jail in August 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.
Maxwell’s lawyers have previously argued she should serve no more than four or five years in prison and claim she has faced onerous and punitive jail conditions since her arrest in July 2020.
The Lawyers said her life is now in danger, claiming: “There are numerous prison inmates who would not hesitate to kill Ms Maxwell – whether for money, fame or simple ‘street cred’.”
An inmate had recently threatened to kill Maxwell, saying an extra 20 years in jail “would be worth the money she’d receive for murdering Ms Maxwell”. The inmate had been moved “presumably to protect Ms Maxwell”.
In a submission to the courts, her lawyers said “the correct sentencing range under the United States Sentencing Guidelines is 51-63 months, not the 292-365 month range calculated by the US Probation Office”.
In two documents filed by her lawyers, Maxwell asked the court to take account of the “unusually harsh” conditions she was held in while awaiting trial.
In new court filings, the 60-year-old’s conduct was described as “shockingly predatory” and her crimes “monstrous”.
Giving their recommendations to the US District Judge Alison Nathan, prosecutors said complaints of poor conditions in her cell were not a good enough reason for a reduced sentence.
They wrote: “Going from being waited on hand and foot to incarceration is undoubtedly a shocking and unpleasant experience.”
Federal sentencing guidelines indicate Maxwell should serve between 30 and 55 years in prison.
Prosecutors wrote: “As part of a disturbing agreement with Jeffrey Epstein, Maxwell identified, groomed and abused multiple victims, while she enjoyed a life of extraordinary luxury and privilege.
“In her wake, Maxwell left her victims permanently scarred with emotional and psychological injuries. That damage can never be undone, but it can be accounted for in crafting a just sentence for Maxwell’s crimes.”
Iroko TV boss, Jason Njoku, is against the ideology that being self-reliant should make Nigerians not submissive to their parents.
Njoku shared this thought after seeing a Tweet from a Nigerian that said one of the ways to speak up for oneself against Nigerian parents is having their own money and being self-reliant. The Twitter user had written.
”No matter the advice anyone wants to give on handling/speaking up for yourself against (Nigerian) parents nothing beats having your own money & being self reliant. Its no joke when they say money & independence stops nonsense. It takes away a lot of control people can have on you
There’s also a sense of self respect & “I don’t have to take this shit” attitude that grows in you as you make your own money & handle your life, you know that, they know that so now there’s more room for open convos, respect, you paying no mind etc. The hold is loosened or gone”
Reacting to the tweet, Njoku pointed out that he makes more money in a month than what his mum made in a year while she was still working. He said this however has not stopped him from showing her respect, if not for anything because she is his mum. Speaking as a parent himself, Njoku said that If one’s parents tried for them, all they need to do is drop their ego and try for them. He stressed that they fail to be there for their parents, he guarantees that their kids will treat them in the same way.
He added that Nigeria needs to invest heavily in human capital in order to experience economic growth. “It has been argued that population is not the problem but proper management.”
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Monday called for effective and efficient management of Nigeria’s booming population to avoid ‘a ticking time bomb.’
Speaking at a high-level dialogue on Nigeria’s new National Population Policy, Mr Osinbajo, who was represented by Maryam Uwais, special adviser to the president on social investment, said population growth without adequate management is “cancerous and a ticking time bomb.”
He added that Nigeria needs to invest heavily in human capital in order to experience economic growth.
“It has been argued that population is not the problem but proper management,” he said.
“It is time for us as a country to engage with sensitive matters because the very stability of our future depends on these conversations,” Mr Osinbajo urged.
Outlining the advantages of a high population, he mentioned increased taxes, productivity, and a large workforce, among others. He however said when a high population is not properly managed, it leads to increased crime rates, unemployment, environmental pollution, and more.
It could also result in excessive pressure on natural resources, insufficient food, inadequate housing, traffic congestion, poor human capital indices in so many spheres, insecurity and instability, the law professor said.
He said all hands need to be on deck to support the fast-growing population to overcome the gaps that already exist, adding that there is an urgent need to build on the sub-national economies to support the rapidly-growing population.
Family Planning
Policymakers and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) at the event agreed that family planning is necessary for population management but also warned that a lack of funding would adversely affect ongoing family planning targets and services.
Speaking at the event, the coordinator of the Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI-PAS), Shina Ogunbiyi, said family planning has been identified as a major solution to Nigeria’s growing population but inadequate funding is a barrier to its success.
Mr Ogunbiyi said the Nigerian government has repeatedly failed to prioritise family planning in its budget. He noted that the revised National Population Policy contains every detail needed to solve the country’s population crisis but funding must be prioritised.
“It is ironic that the revised population policy was launched the same year there is no budget line for family planning,” he said. “Our government needs to do more.”
Mr Ogunbiyi also said the state government must contribute its quota to ensure family planning services get to the majority of households especially those in hard-to-reach areas.
He said only about 10 states and the FCT are making contributions to the basket fund for family planning.
“If these (other) states can make contributions to family planning basket funds, a lot can be achieved,” he said.
The dialogue
The high-level dialogue was organised by the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) with support from the development Research and Projects Centre (dRPC), under the Partnership for Advocacy in Child and Family Health at Scale, a Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation-funded project.
The dialogue was themed “Implementing the National Population Policy; the responsibility of the MDAs and private sector at national and sub-national levels.”
The policy, which seeks to address the burgeoning population growth in Nigeria, was launched by President Muhammadu Buhari in February 2022. It was based on the findings of the NIPSS Senior Executive Course (SEC) 42 2020.
Mr Buhari had recommended that the National Institute focuses on finding solutions to population growth and human capital development in Nigeria.
The policy has an overall goal of improving the life and standard of living for all Nigerians through population control. It also stresses the need for urgent measures to address Nigeria’s high fertility rate, through expanding access to modern contraceptive methods across the country.
Founded in 1979, NIPSS is Nigeria’s foremost policy formation centre for bureaucrats, private sector leaders, military and paramilitary officers and senior civil servants.
Averting Population Explosion
Nigeria is currently on the verge of having a population explosion as the United Nations predicts that the country will have one of the largest populations in the world by 2050.
Family planning has been identified as a way to slow down the burgeoning population and reduce the high maternal and child mortality rate.
The country is, however, struggling to make modern contraceptives readily available to its citizens. To worsen the situation, the Nigerian government failed to make provisions for family planning in the 2022 budget.
However, the new policy emphasises the urgency to address Nigeria’s sustained high fertility rate, through expanding access to modern family planning, counselling and commodities as well as promoting birth spacing.
Speaking at the event, the Director-General of NIPSS, Ayo Omotayo, said there is a need to interrogate the tenuous causal relationship between population size, human capital development and the quest for sustainable livelihood in Nigeria.
According to him, “at a growth of 1.05 per cent, it is projected that the world population will reach 8.5 billion by 2030 and 9.7 billion by 2050.”
Mr Omotayo, however, said population growth, the ability to effectively manage the population, as well as the capacity to cope with the consequences of a large population, vary significantly from one country to another.
Nevertheless, the new policy on population is a clear demonstration of Nigeria’s commitment to addressing population growth and human capital development, he said.
In his remarks, the chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Isa Kwarra, represented by Ismail Suleiman, the federal high commissioner in Kano, said the effective implementation of the new policy requires the involvement and support of everyone.
“I seize this opportunity to make a clarion call for both technical and financial support for the timely and efficient facilitation of the full implementation of the policy,” he said.
Furthermore, Ejike Oji, chairman of the management committee of the Association for the Advancement of Family Planning, said Nigeria is in a demographic crisis. He decried the migration rate of medical practitioners out of Nigeria and also the security challenges all over the country.
He said the country needs to focus on fertility control and “ensure that one per cent of the national health budget goes to family planning.”
Mr Oji admonished stakeholders to work together to achieve Nigeria’s commitment to the FP2030 blueprint.
A middle-aged man, Aliyu Hammanseyo, of Mubi North Local Government Area, Adamawa State, has been remanded in prison for allegedly stabbing his friend to death over N1,500.
Hammanseyo, who was arraigned before the Chief Magistrate’s Court, Yola, was remanded over the alleged offence.

Justice Abiola Soladoye of the Lagos State Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on Wednesday sentenced a man, Ayokunle Bailey, to life imprisonment for defiling a 15-year-old girl.
According to the state prosecution team, Olusola Soneye and Olufunke Adegoke, the convict committed the offence on December 18, 2017, in an uncompleted building around the Alaka area of Mushin, Lagos State.
The defendant was charged with sexual defilement, an offence which contravenes Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
According to the prosecution team, the victim visited her grandmother on the fateful day.
While playing with other children outside the house, the convict lured her into an uncompleted building and forcefully had sex with her.
The prosecution said the convict was later arrested after the survivor walked home with blood dripping from her private parts and the defendant was identified by the survivor, who informed her aunt about the incident.
Justice Soladoye said the prosecution proved the charge of defilement against the convict.
She explained that the convict was crude and unkind, adding that he messed up the survivor’s purity and innocence.
She said, “The defendant is rough and selfish and the survivor gave her testimony truthfully, cogently, positively and brilliantly. She was brave.
“The story of the defendant is dishonest and full of lies. He is a reckless and ruthless person.
“The defendant, having been found guilty as charged is sentenced to life imprisonment without the option of fine.”
In a related development, an Ekiti State High Court, Ado Ekiti division, has sentenced a 50-year-old man, Usman Tajudeen, to life imprisonment for raping a four-year-old girl.
The defendant was tried before the court on one count of rape and found guilty.
The charge read, “That you, Usman Tajudeen, on August 21, 2020, at Ikere Ekiti, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, did rape a four-year-old girl.”
The prosecutor, K.S. Adeyemo, said the offence was contrary to Section 31(2) of the Child’s Right Law, Cap.C7 Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
In her statement to the police, the victim said, “Daddy Latifat (the defendant), who is living at our house, took me to his sitting room. He said I should sit on his lap; he removed my pants and put his something (penis) where I urinate. He used to call me to his sitting room to do it.”
Also, in her testimony before the court, the victim’s mother said, “I was where I was making cassava flour and my daughter went to excrete. When I went to pack the faeces, I noticed blood in the faeces.
“Thereafter, I checked her anus and saw blood coming out of her private parts. I was afraid. When I inquired from her, she said it was Daddy Latifat that put his organ (penis) in her private parts.”
The convict, who spoke in his defence through his counsel, Tope Salam, prayed the court to temper justice with mercy.
In the court judgment, Justice Lekan Ogunmoye said, “The prosecutor has established before the court that the defendant had sexual intercourse with the minor without her consent and therefore committed the offence of rape as charged.
“In all, the prosecution has proved this case beyond reasonable doubt against the defendant. The sentence for the offence of rape under the Child Rights Law is mandatory; he is sentenced to life imprisonment.”
A Magistrate Court sitting in Surulere, Lagos has ordered a new generation bank to refund the sum of $30,769 it deducted from three businesswomen’s domiciliary and naira accounts.
The businesswomen are Mrs. Adebomi Orogun, Mrs. Kehinde Banjo, and Mrs. Oluwatoyin Ode.
Magistrate Oluwatoyin Otitoju gave the order after hearing the claimants’ application.
In her affidavit in support of the application, the first applicant Mrs. Orogun said she recently wanted to transfer money from her Euro account, only to discover that she no longer had access to make any transaction.
“On the 4th of March, 2022, I was shocked to discover that all my accounts (USD, EURO, and Naira) and that of my fellow Claimants with the respondent (Polaris Bank) had been frozen and a ‘post no debit’ order was placed on them,” she said.
Orogun said the bank told her that it had not been deducting the proper commission per transaction on the accounts which only commenced later and which led to her USD account being cleared out.
The bank did not show up nor put up a defence.
Reviewing the facts of the case, Magistrate Otitoju on June 21, 2022, held that the bank’s action was illegal and void.
She held: “An order of this Honourable Court is hereby made declaring the “post no debit” order placed on the 1st applicant’s USD, Euro, and Naira accounts and 2nd applicant’s USD and Naira accounts, and 3rd applicant’s USD and Naira accounts by the respondent (Polaris Bank) as illegal.
“An order of this Honourable Court is hereby made declaring the unauthorised deductions from the 1st applicant’s USD account, 2nd applicant’s USD account, and 3rd applicant’s USD account as illegal and void.
“An order of this Honourable Court is hereby made directing the respondent to revert the applicants’ accounts to status quo as of 17th January 2022.”

@Ugochi in her tweet, claimed that sometimes men dump women “not becauseyou are not loving him enough but because you are loving him too much”.

She wrote;
After my ex boyfriend served me breakfast, I was surprised because I thought I was doing all the things I was supposed to be doing as a great girlfriend but after sometime, I started seeing all the things I was doing wrong when I was with him.
Ladies, sometimes, men dump you not because you are not loving him enough but because you are loving him too much! I realized I was playing the role of a wife instead of a girlfriend and that’s what got me dumped! If you are a girlfriend, you have no business playing the role of a wife. I was doing too much

DJ Obi has described claims that Burna Boy made passes at a married woman as the ”Biggest lie of 2022.”
BurnaBoy has been in the news after his security escorts were accused of firing shots at two persons while at a nightclub in Lagos on June 8.
It was reported that the singer had made passes at a lady and when he was told that she was with her man, he allegedly continued making passes at her, causing her husband to caution him. Things took a different turn when a fight broke out between the married man and his friends and Burna Boy’s security details.
Burnaboy
The married woman has since come out to confirm this claim. BurnaBoy is yet to make a statement on this matter.
DJ Obi in a post shared on his IG page this morning, which he has since deleted, disagreed that BurnaBoy could have hit on a married woman. He said for him to have done that, the woman must have been the sexiest woman in the world. He said he went digging to see an image of the woman and in his word ”BOYYYYYY stop playing”
”I don wake this morning!
P/s: Why do you have sooooo many snaps of him before he “tried” to talk to you 3 times???
When I heard this story of Odogwu having such high interest in this person, I just had to go search for myself to see the woman because she must be the sexiest female on the planet. THREE TIMES?!! I said wow, Unicorns do exists. This babe must be hotter than steff. So I went digging. BOYYYYYY stop playing.
FYI : Burna security is so highly trained, the only reason a gun would have come out is if there was a threat to his life or theirs. So that leads me to ask, Who threw the first bottle?? And why?
I end by saying AFTER GOD! Fear woman. Stay safe out there my brothers. If you are ever going to come for someone of this caliber, your story has to be air tight. And that’s on LOVE DAMINI.
