Kanye West’s Malibu beachfront home remains far from complete despite spending nearly $60 million to acquire it.

New photos have revealed Kanye West’s nearly $60 million Malibu home is far from complete.

The 45-year-old rapper and fashion designer purchased the beachfront property in 2021 and began renovating it for personal use ever since then.

However, new images reveal that the updates to the planned residence are nowhere near completion, with just a table and desk sitting on the upper levels of the home.

The house was designed by architect Tadao Ando,a Pritzker Prize-winning architect, and according to Dirt, the rapper first encountered his work during a visit to the art island of Naoshima, Japan on which it is prominently featured.

The 3,665 square feet house, which sits on a 5,672 lot, was planned to have a total of 4 bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms.

The House required ‘1,200 tons of poured concrete, 200 tons of steel reinforcement and 12 pylons driven 60 feet into the ground.’

West’s house is roughly a half-hour’s drive to the Hidden Hills compound that he previously lived with his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, and their four children.

Ex-rugby league star, Ricky Bibey found dead in his hotel room alongside ‘seriously injured 43-year-old woman’ in Italy

Former rugby league star, Ricky Bibey has been found dead in a £350-a-night riverside hotel in Florence, Italy.

Bibey was found on Sunday, July 17, according to local newspaper La Nazione.

He is understood to have arrived in the picturesque city with a woman on Friday night and they arrived back at the Hotel Continentale ‘in high spirits’ at 2am on Saturday.

The woman is understood to have been found bloodied and bruised before being taken to hospital.

Police sources in Florence told MailOnline they hoped to question the woman this evening or at the latest tomorrow morning.

An insider said: ‘She is recovering but is still sedated so we are waiting for the go ahead from medical staff at the hospital.

‘She has not been arrested and it will not be a formal questioning it’s more a question of trying to understand what happened in the room.

‘The hope was for an autopsy to be carried out on the man sometime today but that will now happen on Monday.

‘That will establish levels of alcohol and if any drugs were present but at this moment all we know for certain is that no third party was involved. We are satisfied of that.’

Italian media have reported that a ‘type of truncheon’ had been recovered from the couple’s first floor room as well as ‘other objects’.

The source added: ‘Obviously items have been taken from the room as with any investigation and pictures and video have been taken but at the moment we are not disclosing what exactly.’

A source at the hotel said: ‘Noises had been heard coming from the room and then a chamber maid saw the woman emerge half naked, with blood on her and screaming for help.

‘That’s when the alarm was raised and the police and paramedics were called. The man was on the floor and despite attempts to save him he was declared dead at the scene.’

Bibey is reported to have worked as an estate agent in the years following his retirement, and had previously run a development company.

The ex-sportsman, who retired from the game in 2012, made 215 appearances for five rugby league sides, including three stints at hometown club Leigh Centurions.

Bibey’s former team, Wakefield Trinity, wrote on Twitter: ‘Trinity are saddened to hear of the passing of former prop-forward Ricky Bibey, aged 40. We send our condolences to Ricky’s family and friends at this tough time.’

Leigh East, where Bibey started playing as a junior, also paid their respects.

A club spokesperson tweeted: ‘All at the club are saddened to hear about the death of our former junior Ricky Bibey who passed away on holiday.

Ricky played professionally for a number of clubs including Leigh, Wigan, St Helens and Wakefield. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.’

The Foreign Office said: ‘We are in touch with the Italian police following the death of a British man in Florence.’

Paramedics raced to the hotel, a stone’s throw from the famous Ponte Vecchio bridge.

the woman was taken to the city’s Careggi hospital where she was said to be in a serious but stable condition.

The couple had only arrived at the hotel on Friday night and the alarm was raised early on Saturday morning.

A police source told MailOnline: ‘The people involved are both British and at the moment we are working on two theories an erotic game that went wrong or some sort of domestic argument, but the general direction is that of an erotic game.

‘The man was found with a series of cuts, bruises and other injuries on his body and so was the woman, although she was more seriously hurt and the man appears to have had some sort of seizure.

‘There is blood in the room and the forensic teams are working there at the moment while the woman has been taken to hospital for treatment.

‘Her current condition is serious but she is stable and her injuries are not life-threatening. We hope to question her at some point in the next few hours.’

Sources said the couple were from Manchester and ran an upmarket estate agent and they had arrived at the hotel late Friday night.

The pair went out shortly after arriving on Friday and returned just before 2am on Saturday with witnesses saying they were in ‘high spirits’.

Police sources said the woman had children through a previous relationship but was not married to the man who died.

British father who walked out on his partner and children for a Ukrainian refugee reveals he’s broke after losing work over their affair

The British dad who left his partner for a Ukrainian refugee they took into their home has cried out that he is now broke.

Security guard Tony Garnett, 29, and his partner Lorna Garnett, the mother of their two daughters, took in 22-year-old Sofiia Karkadym following the invasion of Ukraine by the Russians.

Tony and Lorna had been together for 10 years before they sponsored Soffia to escape war-torn Ukraine.

However, Tony immediately fell in love with Sofiia in their Bradford home, sparking a furious row that split their family.

Just 10 days after Sofiia moved into the family home, Tony left his partner and ran off with the Ukrainian refugee.

His ex wife
His current girlfriend who is a blonde

Now, he says he is broke because he has lost jobs over his affair with Sofiia.

He told the Daily Star: “I’ve been trying to get by and survive with Sofiia with nowt.

“I want to show people that I’m not a scrounger for government benefits, I know what is right.

“I used to have a very successful business. I’ve dedicated myself to it, some weeks I put over 80 hours a week into it.”

Tony said that he ran a security firm that had contracts he lost due to his relationship attracting so much attention.

He added: “Now and again I’m sending door staff to pubs and clubs but I’ve gone from earning nearly 2k a week to earning jack s***.”

This comes four days after it was revealed that Tony had released a rap criticising “an ex”.

The rap video was posted less than 24 hours after he was hit with a court order preventing him from contacting Lorna after she alleged he had sent her abusive texts.

Hours after the court hearing on Wednesday, July 13, Tony put out a YouTube song called “Ukraine to UK Rain” in which he accuses an “ex” of being “two-faced” and playing with his emotion like a video console”.

He raps: “I’m now with a blonde – but yes, my ex was a brunette.”

The song describes Ukraine as “a country torn apart with war crimes and bad pain”.

It also includes the lines: “Should I have stayed there just to be with my kids? No thank you, not today. You see my mental state forbids.”

He told MailOnline after the rap was released: “It’s important for me to explain my side of things. I didn’t name her, I just said ‘my ex’ in the lyrics. I know that won’t get me into trouble because a solicitor told me. It could be any ex I’m referring to. I told the judge that I’d be writing music about what had happened to me.”

Baba Ijesha: Iyabo Ojo breaks silence

Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo, has spoken out following the sentencing of her colleague, Olanrewaju Omiyinka, alias Baba Ijesa.

The PUNCH reports that the actor was arraigned before the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court, Lagos, where he faced six counts of child defilement that included indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault, attempted sexual assault by penetration, and sexual assault by penetration.

Justice Taiwo Oluwatoyin, who delivered the judgement on Thursday, stated that the prosecution failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the defendant was guilty of all the charges against him.

The defendant was however found guilty of four of the six counts against him and was sentenced to jail for 16 years

On count two, he was jailed for three years; count three, five years; count four, three years and sentenced to five years for count five. The jail terms are to run concurrently for five years.

Ojo, who is also a sexual assault survivor, was one of the foremost voices in support of Baba Ijesa’s victim and her foster mother, Nollywood actress and comedienne, Princess.

Reacting to the sentence via her Instagram page on Thursday, The Real Housewives of Lagos reality TV star said the judgement was a victory for victims of abuse.

She also admonished those going through abuse to “speak up”, and never remain silent.

“To all the girl child and boy child being abused, never be AFRAID to speak up and speak out. This victory is for you,” she wrote in the post.

American missionary sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for sexual assault of 14-year-old Ugandan girl.

An American missionary, Eric Tuininga, was sentenced to 10 years in a US Federal Prison after he was found guilty of defiling a 14-year-old Ugandan girl, who was under his care at the Orthodox Presbyterian church based in Mbale District.

Mr Tuininga, 45, of Milledgeville Georgia was ordered to pay $20,000(about Shs75m) in restitution by US District Judge Marc. T. Treadwell and spend a lifetime on supervised release as a registered sex offender after getting out of prison.

In February, Mr Tuininga pleaded guilty and was taken to jail pending sentencing. He faced up to 30 years in jail, according to reports at the time.

Several US media outlets reported that the recommended sentence for Mr Tuininga was seven to nine years.

However, the judge gave him a 10-year sentence after hearing testimony from the victim’s caretaker and some of Tuininga’s family members. Tuininga’s lawyer had requested a sentence of five years.

“I want to recognize the true bravery displayed by the Ugandan girl for speaking out when she was assaulted by a trusted person of power from another country, courageously seeking justice across continents,” US Attorney Peter D. Leary is quoted in a statement.

“Law enforcement, both abroad and here at home, took on a challenging international case,” he added.

In 2019, Mr Tuininga was reported by a fellow US citizen working at the same church who contacted the US Embassy in Kampala that the now convict was having sex with Ugandan girls as young as 14 years who were under the care of their church.

The US Department of State, Bureau of Diplomatic Security federal agents in Kampala opened an investigation into the allegations and subsequently identified the abused minor, who was then aged 14, in May 2019 when Tuininga had sex with her.

Tuininga had already returned to his home in Georgia but the Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations, Child Exploitation Unit, Atlanta, continued with the investigations.

“Eric Tuininga used his trusted position as a pastor to sexually assault a young Ugandan girl in his care, this was a challenging case, but law enforcement worked diligently to ensure that Tuininga did not escape justice for his crime overseas,” said US Attorney Peter D. Lear.

Mark Bube, general secretary of the denomination’s committee of foreign missions, has said Tuininga’s misconduct was reported by other Orthodox Presbyterian missionaries in Uganda and that he was removed from missionary work in 2019.

Bube said Tuininga was later removed entirely from ministry and excommunicated from the church based in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania.

Tuininga joined the church from a separate but affiliated denomination in Oregon. A website chronicling Tuininga’s work in Uganda said he began working there in 2012 after working at Immanuel’s Reformed Church in Salem.

A popular Hausa social media activist, Mustapha Gembu has advised men to not kill themselves over women.

Gembu stated this while reacting to photos of late Taraba Governor, Danbaba Suntai’s widow, Hauwa with her much younger husband, Haliru Saad Malami.

Suntai was involved in a plane crash in Yola in 2012 and was flown abroad for treatment. He died on 28 June, 2017, in Houston, Texas, United States, after battling with the impact of the plane crash which rendered him unable to perform any function.

Hauwa married Malami in 2019, two years after Suntai’s death.

“THIS LIFE NO BALANCE! My brothers don’t fight or kill yourself over woman but fight to get rich in other to live large in life,” Gembu wrote.

“As the family of the late governor Danbaba Suntai of Taraba state continue to mourn his dead, the wife, Hajiya Hauwa’s life continues to move on sweetly, smoothly and sumptuously with her young and rich husband, Mr. Malami, younger brother to Hajiya Turai, late President Yar’adua’s wife.”

Buffalo shooting suspect indicted on federal hate crime charges

A federal grand jury has returned a 27-count indictment charging Payton Gendron, 19, of Conklin, New York, with 14 violations of the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act (Shepard-Byrd Act) and 13 firearms offenses in connection with the mass shooting at the Tops grocery store on Jefferson Avenue in Buffalo, New York.

The announcement was made by Attorney General Merrick B. Garland, Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke for the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross for the Western District of New York, and Special Agent-in-Charge Stephen Belongia of the FBI Buffalo Field Office.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the indictment alleges that on May 14, Gendron opened fire with a Bushmaster XM rifle and shot multiple individuals in and around the Tops grocery store, which resulted in the deaths of 10 Black people, as well as injury to three others.

The indictment charges that Gendron violated the Shepard-Byrd Act by willfully causing the death of the victims because of their actual and perceived race and color.

In total, the 27-count indictment charges Gendron with 10 counts of hate crimes resulting in death, three counts of hate crimes involving an attempt to kill three injured individuals, and one hate crimes count alleging that Gendron attempted to kill additional Black people in and around the Tops grocery store.

The indictment also charges Gendron with 13 counts of using, carrying, or discharging a firearm in relation to the hate crimes, and seeks forfeiture of items, including the weapon used in the shooting.

The indictment further includes special findings alleging, among other things, that Gendron committed the offense after substantial planning and premeditation to commit an act of terrorism.

“Today, a grand jury has indicted Payton Gendron with hate crime and firearms offenses following the horrific attack on the Black community of Buffalo that killed 10 people and injured three others on May 14, 2022,” said Attorney General Garland. “The Justice Department fully recognizes the threat that white supremacist violence poses to the safety of the American people and American democracy. We will continue to be relentless in our efforts to combat hate crimes, to support the communities terrorized by them, and to hold accountable those who perpetrate them.”

Gendron, who described himself as a fascist, a white supremacist and an antisemite, reportedly possessed a 180-page manifesto that revealed troubling perceptions he had. He complained of the dwindling size of the white population and included his fears of ethnic and cultural replacement of white people.

His live-streamed shooting spree has left at least 10 dead and several more wounded. Unlike the multitude of unarmed Black people killed during encounters with law enforcement, the white racist is alive to plead not guilty in court.

“While past violent white supremacist attacks seem to have factored into this heinous act, we must acknowledge that extremist rhetoric espoused by some media and political leaders on the right promoting theories that vilify or dehumanize segments of our society like ‘the great replacement theory’ is a factor too,” wrote U.S. House Homeland Security Chairman Bennie Thompson in an earlier statement.

Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) National Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell added that the organization condemns both the white supremacist terrorist attack targeting Black men and women in Buffalo and the racist rhetoric that has sparked such violence.

“The constant repetition of white supremacist conspiracy theories on social media and even mainstream media outlets has led to horrific violence in places as distant as Christchurch, El Paso, Oslo and Charleston,” Mitchell said. “Those who promote racism, white supremacy, antisemitism, Islamophobia, and other forms of bigotry must be held accountable for the violence they inspire.”

If convicted, the charges in the indictment carry a maximum penalty of life imprisonment or the death penalty.

Gendron is currently in state custody pending state criminal charges.

Return Nigeria to how you met it, before you leave – Activist to Buhari

A Kaduna-based activist, Prof. Suleiman Dansoko, has advised President Muhammadu Buhari not to be anxious to leave office until he cleans all the mess he created for Nigeria.

President Buhari had told party supporters, who paid him Sallah homage in Daura last week, that governance is too tough and he is eager to hand over.

Reacting on Friday, Dansoko, who was formally Head of Department, Bayero University Kano, but now a social activist and political analyst told President Buhari that if he is feeling the heat, Nigerians are only depending on God’s grace to survive.

He said the president should put everything right just the way he met things in 2015 before stepping out of Aso Rock.

According to him, there is no father that will tell his children that he cannot provide their needs, or that he will run out of the home because he faces tough times.

“Please, Mr. President, we all welcome all your team; bandits’attack, killing, hunger, inflation, sickness, unemployment, sacking from Governnent jobs. But, before you go, do your possible best, to settle them, let them leave before you go. Don’t leave any of your team members behind,” he said.

According to him, even though, they all complained about the previous administration before Buhari’s, it was better as all forms of criminalities were not recorded then.

Report robbery in stations, not Twitter – Lagos police

Following an alleged incessant robbery at Aguda, Surulere area of Lagos State, the state’s Police Command has called on residents to ensure incidents are adequately reported at designated police stations in their area.

A resident, Kelechi Bernard, on Thursday took to his Twitter handle to lament the repeated armed robbery along Adetola street, in Aguda.

“Robbers are having a field day in Aguda Surulere Lagos. These dangerous individuals raid homes from 2am, traumatizing Innocent citizens.

“Streets affected are the ones branching off Adetola Street, heading towards Cele Bus Stop. Reports about the raids have been consistent over the past few days,” he wrote.

He, however, called on the Lagos police to tackle the issues.

Another Twitter user, Don sazzy, said he was robbed in the area two months ago.

He said, “Ah I was a victim 2 months ago. In broad daylight oh.

“Went to the police station, gave my statement, they visited my flat self. Till now, nothing. I am moving on abeg,” He added.

A firm, Salyek Steel Limited said, “When incidents are reported police don’t take it seriously until after the incident. What then is the purpose of security when one cannot live comfortably in the hood. What they focus on mostly is how to extort. Am sorry for saying this but the truth must be told.”

Reacting to the report in a post on his Twitter handle, the Lagos state police spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, debunked the report.

He stressed that robbery incidents should be reported at the real police station and not twitter stations.

He said, “I just confirmed from the DPO Aguda that not one person has reported these alleged incidents.

“People need to learn to channel their complaints appropriately to real police stations, not twitter stations. Complaints will be followed by actions. Do the needful!

“If these alleged incidents had been reported, the DPO would have mapped out strategies to forestall its perpetuation, including improved patrols. No DPO would want to risk sanctions by ignoring such weighty complaints.”

Lecturers, FG’s crisis worsens as ASUU slams Ngige

The crisis between striking Nigerian university lecturers and the Federal Government has worsened, The PUNCH learnt.

Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities told our correspondent accused the Federal Government of “sabotaging efforts to ensure standard education for Nigerian youths”.

The lecturers also expressed anger over comments made by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige.

The PUNCH had reported that ASUU started its ongoing strike on February 14 after the Federal Government failed to meet some of its demands including, the release of revitalisation funds and earned allowances, renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU agreement, and deployment of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution.

Buhari had in a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, said, “truly, enough is enough for keeping students at home”.

On his part, Ngige in a statement on Wednesday accused the President of ASUU, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, of misinformation, claiming that there was no Collective Bargaining Agreement between FG and ASUU awaiting signing by the President.

While appearing as a guest on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily, Osodeke, lambasted Ngige for his “insulting” comments.

“What the Minister of Labour has done is a complete insult to the character of people like Professor Nimi Briggs, Senator Chris Adighije, Professor Olu Obafemi,” Osodeke

“The minister instead of looking for how to resolve the problem is busy abusing his colleagues, abusing even the Minister of Education,” he said.

Osodoke also accused the minister of spreading misinformation.

“It is so sad that we have gotten to a stage where our children are lamenting at home and the Minister of Labour is busy churning out fake information and misinforming the public, trying to undermine the integrity of ASUU,” the professor added.

Reacting to Buhari’s comment, the ASUU president said, “I do not understand why Mr President said that ‘enough is enough’, when we are not the one delaying the students at home.

“The Federal Government had sent its team to negotiate with us and we have finished. Instead of coming back to us to tell us the outcome of the meeting, we are hearing this.

“If you set up a committee to negotiate on your behalf, and the committee has finished and they have brought the information to you to sign and then you said enough is enough, what does this mean?” he asked.

The Prof. Nimi Briggs-led negotiation committee was set up by the Federal Government on June 7 to renegotiate the 2009 Agreement with ASUU and submit its report to the Education Minister, Mallam Adamu Adamu in three months.

The Briggs-led committee is expected to review the draft proposed FGN/ASUU Agreement, liaise and consult with relevant stakeholders to finalise the position of the Federal Government on the issues in the draft proposed FGN/ASUU Renegotiated Agreement.

It is also to renegotiate in realistic and workable terms the 2009 Agreements with other University-Based Unions; negotiate and recommend any other issue the Committee deems relevant to reposition the NUC for global competitiveness; and submit proposed draft agreements within three months from the date of inauguration.

The committee is chaired by Brigs, Pro-Chancellor, Alex Ekweme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi.

Other members are Pro-Chancellor, Federal University, Wukari, Arc. Lawrence Patrick Ngbale, who represents North East; Pro-Chancellor, Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, Prof. Funmi Togunu-Bickersteth, representing South West and Pro-Chancellor, Federal University, Lokoja, Senator Chris Adighije, representing South East.

Also on the team are Pro-Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof. Olu Obafemi from North-Central; Pro-Chancellor, Kano State University of Science & Technology, Prof. Zubairu Iliyasu, representing North West; and Pro-Chancellor, Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island, Mathew Seiyefa from South-South.

Police uncover baby factory in Delta, arrest suspects

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have uncovered a baby factory located within Obodogba community in the Okpanam Oshimili North Local Government Area of the state.

Disclosing this to journalists in a signed press statement on Thursday, the spokesman for the state Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe, affirmed that three pregnant women were rescued from the den while two suspects; Promise Ejogu, aged 25 years and Aruna Sulieman, aged 29 years were arrested.

According to the PPRO, the Police Command foiled the syndicate following information gathered that there was a baby factory located somewhere in Obodogba community, Okpanam.

“Acting on the information, on July 10, 2022, at about 0730hours, operatives of the State Investigation Department stormed their den in Okpanam community, and successfully rescued three pregnant women,  while the two suspects were arrested,” the PPRO said.

It was gathered that one of the suspects,  Promise Ejogu,  is a brother to the ring leader of the syndicate who reportedly engages in sexual activities with these women to get them pregnant.

The PPRO said that the suspects are currently in custody while efforts are ongoing to arrest the other members of the syndicate.

ECOWAS Court declares Twitter ban unlawful

Economic Community of West African States’ Court has declared “unlawful” the suspension of Twitter by the Federal Government.

The court also ordered the regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), “never to repeat it again”.

This followed a suit by Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project and 176 concerned Nigerians, according to SERAP’s Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, announced the suspension of Twitter in Nigeria following the deletion of Buhari’s tweet.

Then the FG also threatened to arrest and prosecute anyone using Twitter in the country, while the National Broadcasting Commission asked all broadcast stations to suspend the patronage of Twitter.

But in the judgment delivered on Thursday, the ECOWAS court declared that it has the jurisdiction to hear the case, and that the case was therefore admissible.

The Court also held that the act of suspending the operation of Twitter is unlawful and inconsistent with the provisions of Article 9 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights both of which Nigeria is a state party.

“The Buhari administration in suspending the operations of Twitter violates the rights of SERAP and 176 concerned Nigerians to the enjoyment of freedom of expression, access to information and the media, as well as the right to a fair hearing,” the court ruled.

The Court also ordered the Buhari’s regime to take necessary steps to align its policies and other measures to give effect to the rights and freedoms and to guarantee a non-repetition of the unlawful ban of Twitter.

The Court also ordered Buhari’s regime to bear the costs of the proceedings and directed the Deputy Chief Registrar to assess the costs accordingly.

Reacting to the judgment, SERAP’s lawyer in the suit, Femi Falana, SAN, said, “We commend the ECOWAS Court for the landmark judgment in the case of SERAP v Federal Republic of Nigeria in which the Judges unanimously upheld the human rights of community citizens to freedom of expression, and access to information.

“Even though the Court had granted an interim order of injunction last year which restrained the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami SAN from prosecuting Nigerians who defied the Twitter ban, SERAP deserves special commendation for pursuing the matter to a logical conclusion.

“Freedom of expression is a fundamental human right and the full enjoyment of this right is central to achieving individual freedom and to developing democracy. It is not only the cornerstone of democracy, but indispensable to a thriving civil society.

“With the latest decision of the Court to declare the suspension of Twitter in Nigeria illegal it is hoped that the Heads of State and Governments of the member states of the Economic Community of West African States will henceforth respect and uphold the human right of the community to freedom of expression guaranteed by Article 9 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights.”

Baba Ijesha jailed 16 years

Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on Thursday sentenced a Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju Omiyinka, aka Baba Ijesha, to 16 years imprisonment.

Baba Ijesha is facing six counts of child defilement that include indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault, attempted sexual assault by penetration and sexual assault by penetration.

The offences contravene Section 135, 137, 261, 202, 262 and 263 of the Lagos State Criminal Law 2015, which stipulates life imprisonment for offenders.

The actor denied the allegations. A CCTV video recording detailing his relationship with the victim said to be a minor was played in court.

Delivering the judgement, Justice Taiwo said that the prosecution failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the defendant is guilty of all the charges against him.

However, she found the defendant guilty of two of the six counts against him.

ASUU strike: We foresee bleak future – Church leaders

Church leaders have expressed disappointment over the prolonged industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.

They said the country’s future was now bleak with students roaming the streets aimlessly everyday.

The leaders then enjoined ASUU and other academic unions to immediately resolve the issues in the interest of the students and the future of the country.

The Fellowship of Leaders and Ministers of Bible-believing Churches, led by Pastor Abel Aiyedogbon, while speaking with newsmen in Ilorin on Monday, observed that the country may be in jeopardy if the youths were not properly trained and prepared for expected roles in the country.

He said, “As a body and stakeholders to the destinies of our children, we appeal to the parties concerned, especially the Federal Government to quickly resolve the ASUU crisis.”

He noted that the students involved were the future leaders of the nation and if they were not prepared for such roles as expected, the future of the country may be in jeopardy.

He added that “today is the womb of tomorrow, what Nigerians do with the nation today would determine how strong the country will be tomorrow”, adding that “the Nigeria of tomorrow is certainly going to be what the ruling class of today organises it to be.”

The church leaders said that the prolonged strike had shown insensitivity on part of the nation’s policy makers and all the stakeholders involved, adding that the plight of university students who have been at the receiving end over the years need to be considered.

ASUU strike: ‘Why hold Buhari by the neck’ – Presidency queries lecturers

The Presidency has queried the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, over the lingering strike.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, wondered why ASUU was holding the President by the neck over an agreement not signed by his government.

Shehu recalled that the agreement in contention was signed in 2009 by the then Federal Government.

Featuring on Channels Television’s programme, Politics Today, Shehu said Buhari’s government cannot meet their demand 100 percent.

He disclosed that the Federal Government needs to pay attention to other sectors of the country.

According to Shehu, the military needs weapons to fight terrorists, hence government can’t pay all its attention on ASUU alone.

He said: “As for ASUU, the president has the right to appeal on behalf of Nigerians, this is six months or more of the ongoing strike.

“Is it right for anyone to insist on taking 100 percent of all of those grievances that they have? Don’t forget that what is the cause of this problem is a 2009 agreement with the then government that they have no capacity to deliver upon and have passed it from one government to another.

“So, we might ask the question, why is Buhari being held by the neck? What happened in the past? Why didn’t they strangle those past administrations on these matters? That’s our worries.
