Justin Timberlake and Demi Lovato are among the superstars who will perform on Jan. 20 at the inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

Joe Biden is getting ready to dance, dance, dance at his upcoming presidential inauguration.

Justin Timberlake, Demi Lovato, Jon Bon Jovi and R&B singer Ant Clemons will perform as part of the inauguration festivities for President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on Jan. 20, the Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) announced on Wednesday, Jan. 13.

The music superstars will participate in “Celebrating America,” a live 90-minute prime-time special hosted by Tom Hanks that will air at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT. The event, which will include more performers yet to be announced, will cap off a day of celebration that will see Biden sworn in as the 46th President of the United States.

This special will feature remarks from both Biden and Harris, in addition to spotlighting American heroes who stepped up during the ongoing pandemic. It will follow the other events of this historic day, including the official Inaugural Ceremonies, a wreath-laying on Arlington National Cemetery and a “Parade Across America.”
The program will air live on ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC and MSNBC, along with streaming live on the PIC’s YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Twitch channels. Additionally, it will be carried live on Amazon Prime Video, Microsoft Bing, NewsNOW from Fox, and AT&T DirecTV and U-verse.

“This inauguration presents a unique opportunity to spotlight the resilience and spirit of an America united,” PIC CEO Tony Allen said in a statement. “We have witnessed countless heroes this past year step up to the frontlines and serve their fellow Americans, so we are telling their stories, spreading their collective light and celebrating the best of our country and its people with this prime-time program. Our first priority is safety—so while many of us will be watching safely from our homes, we are creating real moments of connection that highlight a new inclusive American era of leadership that works for and represents all Americans.”

Inaugural events are certainly known for landing top-level talent. Barack Obama’s second inauguration set a high bar in 2013, counting Beyoncé, Kelly Clarkson and James Taylor among that year’s performers.

During Supreme Court oral arguments Tuesday in a dispute over campus speech rights, justices cited a 2017 jury verdict that awarded pop star Taylor Swift’s demand to be paid $1 by a man who was found liable for groping her.

The reference to Swift’s sexual assault case arose as the court wrestled with the legal significance of a college student’s request for a minuscule payout from his college for allegedly violating his First Amendment rights.

Both Swift and the college student, Chike Uzuegbunam, demanded only pittances from defendants in their disputes – a legal concept known as “nominal damages.” At issue in the student’s case is whether his lawsuit should survive in light of both his college having lifted its offending speech restrictions, and the small amount of money requested.

Justice Elena Kagan called Swift’s case “the most famous nominal damages case I know of in recent times.”

Addressing a lawyer for Georgia Gwinnett College, Kagan suggested the $1 that the pop singer demanded, while small in financial terms, carried potent symbolic value – and asked if the same principle applied in Uzuegbunam’s case.

“A few years ago, [Swift] brought a suit against a radio host for sexually assaulting her, and she said, I’m not really interested in your money, I just want $1. And that dollar is going to represent something both to me and to the world of women who have experienced what I’ve experienced,” Kagan said.

“That’s what happened: The jury gave her $1,” she continued. “And it was an unquestionable physical harm. But she just asked for this $1 to say that she had been harmed. Why not?”

Georgia’s Solicitor General Andrew Pinson, who argued the case for the state college, told the justices that the student’s nominal damages claim is not legally significant enough to keep the case alive after the school relaxed its speech policy. In effect, the school argued, Uzuegbunam no longer has the kind of injury that must be present for a court to step in.

The Department of Justice argued on the student’s behalf Tuesday, telling the justices that the small amount of money Uzuegbunam is seeking should not disqualify his legal challenge.

Uzuegbunam brought his suit against Georgia Gwinnett College after school officials in 2016 repeatedly ordered him to refrain from professing his Christian faith on campus grounds, claiming that he had failed to comply in various ways with the school’s particularly harsh speech code.

After the lawsuit was filed, the school relaxed its policy in 2017 and asked the district court judge to dismiss the case as moot, which it granted. A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit affirmed the lower court ruling, prompting Uzuegbunam’s appeal to the Supreme Court.

A decision in the case, Uzuegbunam v. Preczewski, is expected by late June.

Young Nigerian Soldier To Die By Firing Squad (Check Out His Photo And The Offense He Committed)

A military court has sentenced a soldier who opened fire on his commander to death by firing squad.

At a military court hearing on Tuesday, judges convicted Trooper Azunna Maduabuchi of murdering Lt. Babakaka Ngorgi.

Maduabuchi was arraigned before a court at the Maimalari Military Barracks in Maiduguri, along with four other soldiers accused of murder.

Other convicted soldiers include Sergeant Sani Isaiah who was sentenced by the court to four years in prison.

She also sentenced Bidemi Fabiyi to two years in prison while Musa Bala and Abdulraheed Adamu were each sentenced to one year in prison.

The soldier shot Lieutenant Babakaka Ngorgi eight times, killing the officer.

Our military source said Kurtun, who was immediately detained, had been hunting for his co-worker at the 202 Tank Battalion in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.

She said the corpse opened fire on the deceased from behind and near him, where he died instantly.

The source said similar clashes had taken place in recent years between the troops of Operation Lafiya Dole against Boko Haram in Gwoza, Chibok, Bama and Mallam Fantori.

RIP: Before The Plane Crashed, See The Message A Woman Posted On Her Instagram Account

Rathi Windania, her daughter and her nephew didn’t survive the plane crash that reportedly happened in Indonesia. Shortly before the plane crashed, this woman posted a sad and final message on her Instagram account. According to THE SUN, the Boeing 737 took off from an airport in Indonesia capital, it reached an altitude of 10,900 fts and then disappeared from the radar screens. It was later confirmed that the aircraft carrying 62 passengers crashed into a sea minutes after take off, no one survived the crash.

Rathi, her daughter and her nephew were among the 62 passengers who lost their lives in the plane crash. Shortly before the crash, she posted the picture of herself, her daughter and her nephew sitting side by side in the plane, she also wrote a message that touched the heart of many. “The arrangements,” the eyewitness shares, “were multi-colored and also included various superheroes like Spiderman, Superman, and Batman. Everything was set up to make it look like a vintage arcade.”

Per the insider, Gigi’s mom, Yolanda Hadid, helped with the decorations—and knowing she had impeccable taste on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, it’s no wonder Zayn’s birthday was one for the books.

Simply put, “It looks like Gigi wanted to plan something where they could stay home, but still have a fun celebration.”

The former One Direction member isn’t the only January baby in the family! The supermodel’s mom celebrated her birthday just yesterday.

“Celebrated mamma’s bday tonight @yolanda.hadid,” Gigi shared on Instagram on Monday, Jan. 11. “Every year, I think I couldn’t love, look up to, or learn from her more—and then I do. School resumption: See details as FG gives update on school resumption

The Presidential Task Force on COVID – 19 , on Tuesday , said schools in the country will resume on January 18 until the Ministry of Education announces further directive.

PTF National Coordinator , Dr Sani Aliyu, stated this while featuring on a television programme monitored by the punch.

The PUNCH had earlier reported that the Minister of Education , Adamu Adamu , on Monday , said the Federal Government would review the January 18 earlier date fixed for resumption of schools across Nigeria.

The minister , who spoke at a PTF briefing in Abuja , attributed the decision to the second wave of COVID – 19 currently ravaging the country .

Speaking further on the issue on Tuesday , the PTF coordinator said the minister did not say the date has been changed .

Aliyu said , “ As regards schools , I just want to make a clarification , what the minister said yesterday was that they were going to review, he didn’t say that they were going to change the date. He said they will review the situation and let the nation know .

The National Association of Nigerian Students has urged the Federal Government and members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities to resume academic activities at the nation ’ s public universities .

The students ’ body also ordered its chapters in all tertiary institutions to set up COVID – 19 task force teams to enforce all guidelines outlined by the Presidential Task Force on COVID -19 and ensure safe reopening of schools .

NANS President , Sunday Asefon , stated this in a statement made available to The PUNCH on Tuesday.

The PUNCH had earlier reported that ASUU, on December 24 , 2020 , conditionally suspended its nine-month- long strike after a lot of foot -dragging by the union and the Federal Government.

The Presidential Task Force on COVID – 19 subsequently ordered schools to remain closed till January 18 , 2021 to contain the spike in COVID – 19 infections in the country . The National Universities Commission later asked universities to comply with the directive but the PTF on Monday said the January 18 date is subject to review .

University workers under the aegis of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities and Non -Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions on Tuesday protested what they described as the injustice of the Federal Government .

Among their grievances are the irregularities in the implementation of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System and distribution of the earned allowances .

During the protest held at the entrance gate of the University of Abuja , the SSANU and NASU demanded that the government should pay them their minimum wage as promised and in conformity with what has been paid to other ministries since 2019 .

One of the leaders of the protesters ’ Branch Treasurer of NASU in UNIABUJA , Sadiat Hassan , said they would embark on strike if the government did not act accordingly .

She said, “ We are protesting against the irregularities in IPPIS payment and demanding the renegotiation of our 2009 agreement which has been long overdue .

Vice – Chancellors of some federal and state universities in Nigeria have expressed readiness to reopen schools .

Though the Academic Staff Union of Universities had said that varsities were not ready for reopening, the VCs said they had planned to reopen their institutions as directed by the Federal Government .

One of the VCs of a federal university in the South -West told our correspondent that it was wrong for ASUU to claim that there were no guidelines for reopening varsities .

Apart from the scare arising from the second wave of COVID – 19 , another VC said some of them ( VCs ) had planned to stagger resumption .

“ I think ASUU should begin to speak to facts . Inasmuch as we do not want the COVID – 19 outbreak on our campuses , we had our plans. Some academic activities can resume for classes with a few populations ,” one of the VCs told our correspondent on the telephone .

“ LASU recently held examinations for students in compliance with COVID -19 guidelines , and it went well . What do they mean by saying there is no guideline for reopening?” another VC queried.

The Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alh. Yahaya Adoza Bello facilitate with the shortest NYSC Corps Member at his residence.

Governor Yahaya Bello has been the major Corps employer in the year under review. Corps members have worked in private and public sectors to contribute to the social-l economic development of the State.

The shortest Corps member Abu is a student of Federal University of Technology Minna, Nigerian State. Abu graduated from department of Library and Information Technology.

The size of the shortest guy has made him to be more popular right from his school and as well as within the NYSC camp, as most ladies are even dying to be around him.

From the report, Abu seems to be between 3 to 4.0 feet tall, which is the normal height of a 4 or 5 years old child. Throughout his academics, he proved to be obedient, hardworking and faithfulness toward his academics activities.
