Omah Lay and Tems have been arraigned to court in Uganda.

Nigerian singers, Omah Lay and Tems have been arraigned before the Makindye Division court in Kampala for flouting COVID-19 guidelines in Uganda.

The fast-rising stars were on Sunday December 13, arrested together with their managers for holding an illegal concert at Ddungu resort in Munyonyo where they gathered big crowds, contrary to President Museveni’s directives on the prevention of the spread of Covid-19.

It was gathered that the organizers of the event disguised the show as a lunch and dinner event but it turned out to be a concert with large crowd in attendance.

Omah Lay, Tems, and the others were arrested and charged with doing “acts that are likely to cause the spread of infectious disease, Covid-19,” according to him Assistant Superintendent of Police and Deputy Police Spokesperson, Luk Owoyesigyire, Kampala Metropolitan Police.
Earlier in March, Museveni banned all music concerts, closed down bars, banned fans at all sporting events, and reduced the numbers of people who could attend church services.

Uganda’s Ministry of Health on Sunday reported 461 new confirmed coronavirus cases, taking the total number of cases in the country to 27,532.

Omah Lay via his tweets disclosed the following;

Yes I’m with the Ugandan police… something about the show from last night. Everything would be fine…

Omah ?

I’m in cuffs in Uganda right now with Tems.

I’m just a singer trying to entertain, why am I being set up in Uganda?

I didn’t organize a show, I came on stage and saw teeming fans and sang to them…

Why am I being detained? Why am I not been given a right to a fair hearing?

Why is Uganda not letting @NigeriaMFA step into this? They have been trying to secure our release to no avail.

Is there something bigger at play in Uganda? Why do I have to take the fall for it???

Ajax football star, Quincy Promes arrested on suspicion of stabbing a relative during a family party.

Ajax football star, Quincy Promnes has been arrested on suspicion of stabbing a relative during a family party in the Netherlands.

According to De Telegraaf, the 28-year-old Dutch footballer was arrested by police on Sunday over the incident which occurred in late July.

The report said the family member was left with serious injuries after a fierce argument during a family party at a warehouse in Abcoude, just outside Amsterdam.

The relative is believed to have pressed charges last month and police spokesperson Jelmer Geerds confirmed a 28-year-old man had been arrested on Sunday.

“We only heard about the incident a month ago,” Geerds added. “An investigation was then started and this morning led to an arrest.”

The arrest occurred the day after Promes, who has made 49 appearances for the Netherlands, scored in Ajax’s 4-0 Eredivisie win over PEC Zwolle on Saturday.

The Dutch report adds the alleged crime of “assault resulting in serious physical injury” carries a maximum jail sentence of four years if the defendant is found guilty.

Promes, who previously played for Twente, Go Ahead Eagles, and Spartak Moscow, joined Ajax from Sevilla last year in a £14million deal.

Omah lay arrested in Uganda

Following hours of pressure from several Ugandan entertainers, Katwe Police has arrested Nigerian artiste Omah Lay for charges related to violating Covid-19 guidelines on entertainment.

Also in custody is Ivan Dungu, the manager of the venue which hosted Omah Lay’s concert that has since raised dissatisfaction from several Ugandans.

This was confirmed by Assistance Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire on his Twitter account, saying, ” Nigerian artiste Omah has been arrested by Katwe Police. The manager of the venue, Dungu Ivan and event promoter, Prima Kasana, are also in custody,” confirmed Owoyesigyire on Twitter.

Here is the full statement from the Uganda Police Force

Three people have been arrested in connection to the unauthorised concert that was held last night in Ddungu Resort in Munyonyo, Kampala City.

Those arrested are Ivan Ddungu, the manager of the place where the concert was held, Omah Lay the musician and Prim Kasana, Events Manager, who contracted Omah Lay to sing.

Police is also looking for the area Officer in Charge of Police Station for failure to detect the criminal acts that took place in his area of jurisdiction.

It is alleged that the organizers of the show disguised  it as a lunch and dinner event, but later on at night they started inviting artistes to perform.

The suspects are detained at Katwe Police Station and are being charged with doing acts that are likely to cause the spread of infectious disease, which is corona virus.

On the onset of the COVID19 pandemic, the president directed that music concerts should be stopped and the directives still stands.

We condemn the act of some selfish  individuals, who are bent on violating the directives on CONVID-19 to make money and risks the lives of many Ugandans.

We appeal to members of the public to adhere to the Ministry of Health guidelines on COVID-19 and follow all the SOPs.

Tyson Fury Vows To Knock-Out Anthony Joshua In 3 Rounds.

WBC champion, Tyson Fury is eager to fight British boxer, Anthony Joshua and believes he can win him in three rounds.

“Well there you go everyone,” Fury began in a video posted on his Twitter handle a few hours after Joshua knocked out his mandatory challenger, Kubrat Pulev, in round nine on Saturday night.

“Anthony Joshua just s*** himself live on television. He got asked if he wants the fight and he went around the bushes and put his a* in the hedge.
“I want the fight, I want the fight next. I’ll knock him out inside three rounds. He’s a big, bum dosser, I can’t wait to knock him out.”

Watch Fury’s video below;

In front of 1,000 fans with attendance limited due to coronavirus restrictions, Joshua ensured there was no repeat of a shock defeat in his first clash with Andy Ruiz Jr in 2019 as the 39-year-old Pulev was swotted aside.

Attention will now turn to the possibility of a much-anticipated clash with WBC champion Fury in 2021.

“I’m up for anything. Who wants to see Anthony Joshua box Tyson Fury in 2021?” Joshua asked the crowd to a chorus of cheers.

“I started this game in 2013 and I’ve been chasing the belts ever since.

“Whoever has got the belt, I would love to compete with them. If that is Tyson Fury then let it be Tyson Fury.”

Pulev had lost just once previously in his career to Wladimir Klitschko in 2014, but was outclassed by Joshua, who could have had victory wrapped up within three rounds.

Twice Pulev was given a count by the referee in round three after he was left flailing on the ropes by an explosive burst of punches from Joshua.

The IBF, WBA and WBO world champion then surprisingly took his foot off the accelerator to allow Pulev to hang in the fight.

But in round nine three uppercuts in quick succession put Pulev back on the canvas and this time he did not get back up in time as Joshua took his career record to 24-1.

An agreement in principle for Joshua and WBC champion Fury to finally go head-to-head has been in place since earlier this year.

“Starting from tomorrow, we make the Tyson Fury fight straight away. It’s the only fight to be made in boxing. It is the biggest fight in British boxing history,” said Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn.

“I know he (Joshua) wants it. He is the best heavyweight in the world, I promise you. He’ll break him down, he’ll knock him out.”

President Buhari Hails Anthony Joshua Following Victory Over Pulev.

President Muhammadu Buhari celebrates the decisive victory of Nigerian-born boxer, Anthony Joshua, over Kubrat Pulev Saturday night.

The President says by retaining his IBF, WBA, and WBO titles, Joshua has given boxing lovers round the world, and particularly in Nigeria, something to cheer.

He recalls his meeting with the heavyweight champion in London earlier in the year, describing Anthony Joshua as a humble, well brought up young man, “who will still go places.”President Buhari wishes Joshua all the best in his dream fight against Tyson Fury, saying he has the prayers and goodwill of Nigerians going with him.

Seun Kuti allegedly pulls a gun to harrass civilian in Ikeja.

Nigeria Musician Seun Kuti was alleged to have pulled a gun on civilians over a street parking matter in Ikeja.

According to eyewitness, the youngest son of late afro beat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti also use his thugs to harrass and intimidate his victim.

The eyewitness further give an account of what went down below:

“It was abt 7pm when I decided to stroll out of the Lagos Facebook Hangout party held at 16, Akin Osinyemi Street, off Allen Ave, Ikeja. Outside the building where I stood, I couldn’t help but shift attention to the man in an armless top & slightly over the knee trouser, raging.

He was mad that the party attendees littered the street where he obviously lives with their cars – a genuine concern (his gate was affected). There was a resident stranded in his car trying to access his compound but couldn’t.

Kuti’s fury leaped & began to ridicule the guy who block the access. Whether the guy knew or not that it was Kuti, he screamed back, asking him to take things easy before he leaves.

Next thing: Some three guys left Kuti’s side and rushed the guy with slaps and blows, while Kuti also landed him a heavy strike on his head amid screaming. This guy retreated, almost crying. He moved his car. But it wasn’t enough.

Kuti continued to rage at other car owners until one of the organisers, MM, showed up. In the middle of the effort to pacify, one of the bouncers told Kuti to calm down…

Next thing again, Kuti’s thugs rushed at the bouncer for such effontery. That’s where the party scattered.

This time around Kuti went into his compound and brought out a SHORT BLACK GUN! He was attempting to cork it but paused again… I called my friend that we needed to leave immediately.

I knew trouble was looming on a large scale when the guy who was earlier assaulted returned to the scene. Barely 30 minutes after we left, I got feedback from people at the party that there had been a gunshot, forcing everyone to scamper.

I’m shocked that Kuti will rather make his point with a gun than engage the organisers…seeing him in the movie ‘Citation’ & how he found his voice during #EndSars Protests reinforces the feeling that things aren’t what they seem. KUTI was a thug to behold.”

Lil Wayne pleads guilty to federal gun charge, faces up to 10 years in prison.

American rapper, Lil Wayne pleaded guilty on Friday to a federal charge that he possessed a weapon despite being a convicted felon, and faces up to 10 years in prison.

The rapper, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter, admitted possessing the .45 calibre gun and six rounds of ammunition after his private plane was searched on arriving in Miami from California on 23 December 2019.

A search warrant said the father-of-four told investigators the gun was a Father’s Day gift.

He entered the plea during a hearing held remotely before U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams.

“Your honor, I plead guilty to the charge,” Carter told the judge.

The federal charge carries a maximum prison sentence of 10 years, but likely Carter will get far less time than that, according to reports. He is free on $250,000 bail but had to surrender his passport.

The charge stems from a weapons conviction for Carter in New York more than a decade ago, for which he was sentenced to eight months in prison as convicted felons are barred under federal law from possessing firearms.

Carter’s lawyer, Howard Srebnick, said he considered a motion to suppress the search of the plane as a violation of the rapper’s constitutional rights.

“I must say I thought it was a very viable motion. He has decided not to pursue a motion to suppress,” Srebnick said.

The Miami U.S. attorney’s office also said in the news release that investigators found small amounts of cocaine, ecstasy, and oxycodone in a bag belonging to Carter, but he was not charged with any drug crime.

Wayne is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 28.

Marvel Will not Recast Chadwick Boseman’s Character in Black Panther 2.

Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige has announced that Chadwick Boseman’s character of Black Panther will not be recast after the actor’s death following a long battle with cancer.

King T’Challa’s story on the dystopian sci-fi blockbuster is coming to an end along with that of Boseman, the man who brought him to life onscreen.

Ryan Coogler has manned the director’s chair for a sequel which is set to move forward with focus on the other characters introduced in the 2018 films.

That sequel is due in July 8, 2022, according to Feige’s remarks at Disney’s Investor Day conference.

“I want to acknowledge the devastating loss of a dear friend and a member of our Marvel Studios family. Chadwick Boseman was an immensely talented actor and inspirational individual who affected all of our lives both personally and professionally,” Feige said.

“His portrayal of T’Challa, the Black Panther, is iconic, and transcends any iteration of the character from any other medium in Marvel’s past. It is for that reason that we will not recast the character.”

“To honor the legacy that Chad helped us build with his portrayal of the King of Wakanda, we wanted to continue exploring that world and all the rich and varied characters introduced in the first film,” Feige added.

Taraji P. Henson to host American music awards.

Empire Star Taraji P. Henson will host the American Music Awards on Sunday.

But what’s the Hollywood actor bringing on board?

“I’m trying to bring a bit of my musical theater training, my comedic chops, just a hodgepodge of my talent. You know, I sing, I dance, I did study musical theater at Howard University. So whenever I have shows like this, I like to remind people that I’m more than just ‘Cookie’ or a dramatic actress”, she said.

Several artists are billed to perform, including Megan Thee Stallion.

“Well, you know, I love my Megan Thee Stallion, I am so proud of her tenacity and I’m so proud of her vulnerability because that’s where her strength lies, in her vulnerability and not being afraid to be vulnerable and be fierce and all of that. I’m looking forward to Post Malone, she added.

Hosting the awards show is next on Henson’s agenda. But she says she’s looking forward to directing, producing and working on exciting upcoming projects.

Speaking via Zoom call from Los Angeles where the show is set to be held, Henson said its time to begin to discover new talents like was done for her.

Bobby Brown Jr dead at 28

Bobby Brown Jr., the son of the R&B artist and producer, was found dead at a home Wednesday, according to Los Angeles police.

A cause of death was not clear, but foul play is not suspected, a Los Angeles police spokesman said. Brown Jr.’s age has been reported to be 28.

TMZ first reportedBobby Brown Jr.’s death, citing a person described as a source close to the family.

Authorities were called to the home in Encino for a medical emergency shortly before 2 p.m., the police spokesman said.

More information about the circumstances leading up to the call was not available.

The Los Angeles County coroner is leading the death investigation.

Brown Jr. was the son of Bobby Brown and Kim Ward.

The elder Bobby Brown lost daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown when she was 22. The only child of Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston  was found face-down and unresponsive in a bathtub in January 2015 and was in coma for six months before her death.

Investigators with the medical examiner’s office were not able to determine exactly how Bobbi Kristina Brown died.

An autopsy showed that she had morphine, cocaine, alcohol and prescription drugs in her body, but the medical examiner couldn’t determine whether she killed herself, whether someone else killed her or whether her death was accidental.

She was discovered in the bathtub just before the third anniversary of her mother’s death.

Houston, a seven-time Grammy winner, was found submerged in a bathtub in a Beverly Hills, California, hotel on Feb. 11, 2012.

The elder Bobby Brown is known for hits including “My Prerogative” and “Every Little Step.” He also was in the film “Ghostbusters II.”

If you have an underage child that you’re maltreating, you deserve to be in jail – O.A.P, Toolz.

Media personality, Toolz has reacted to a tweet in which a Twitter user described the use of underage kids as househelps as a form of slavery.

The media personality in reaction to the tweet stated that anyone who has an “underage child they are maltreating (paying peanuts, beating, starving etc) deserve to be in jail.”

Toolz also wondered why people will treat those handling their childcare badly, when they expect such people to look after their children in a loving and caring manner.

She wrote;
Saw this earlier.
Very important conversation to have.
And if you have an underage child that you’re maltreating (paying peanuts, beating, starving etc) you deserve to be in jail.

I will never understand people that treat those handling their childcare badly. These are people that you expect to look after your children in a loving and caring manner o!

WHAT A LOSS FOR INDIA

Soumitra Chatterjee: India acting legend dies, aged 85

Legendary Indian actor Soumitra Chatterjee, famed for his work with Oscar-winning director Satyajit Ray, has died from Covid complications.

The 85-year-old actor was admitted to hospital in Kolkata city on 6 October after he tested positive for the virus.

He will be mourned by fans and critics who avidly followed his six-decade-long career in Bengali language films.

Chatterjee, who starred in more than 300 movies, was also an accomplished playwright, theatre actor and poet.

He tested negative a few weeks after he was admitted to hospital but his condition soon deteriorated and he was put on a ventilator in the last week of October. He died on Sunday morning.

Chatterjee was perhaps best-known for his work with Ray, one of the world’s most influential directors and maker of the much-feted Apu Trilogy. The series followed the life of a man who grew up in a Bengali village. The films garnered critical acclaim, winning many awards worldwide, and put Indian cinema on the global map.

The third movie of the trilogy, Apur Sansar, which released in 1959, was also Chatterjee’s debut film. He would go on to star as the lead actor in 14 of Ray’s films.

Pauline Kael, one of America’s most influential and respected film critics, called Chatterjee Ray’s “one-man stock company” who moved “so differently in the different roles he plays that he is almost unrecognisable”.

Satyajit Ray with Soumitra Chatterjee
image captionRay (left) cast Chatterjee (right) in 14 films

Chatterjee was awarded the Dada Saheb Phalke Award, the highest honour in Indian cinema, in 2012 and in 2018, he was given France’s highest award, the Legion of Honour.

He began acting when he was in school, where he starred in several plays. He was in college when a friend introduced him to Ray – it was a chance meeting, but it eventually led to Chatterjee’s film debut.

“I didn’t know what to do when Mr Ray first asked me. I didn’t know what was the real difference between stage and screen acting. I was afraid I’d overact,” he told Marie Seton, film critic and biographer, in an interview.

Chatterjee’s roles in more than a dozen films made by the auteur spanned a wide range.

He played a Sherlock Holmes-like detective in Sonar Kella, an effete bridegroom in Devi, a hot-tempered north Indian taxi driver in Abhijan, a city slicker in Aranyer Din Ratri, and a mild-mannered village priest in Ashani Sanket. He also played what Seton called a “thinly veiled portrait” of Nobel Prize-winning poet Rabindranath Tagore in Charulata, one of Ray’s most admired films.

“His chief asset was the natural sensitivity of his appearance,” Seton wrote of the actor.

Ray mentored his favourite actor, lending him books on cinema and often taking him to watch Sunday morning shows of Hollywood films in Kolkata. “The entire exercise he did with a purpose, it was not as if he was taking me out on Sundays for entertainment,” Chatterjee once said.

Soumitra Chatterjee with Hugh Grant
image captionChatterjee acted with Hugh Grant in a 1989 film set in Calcutta

Ray, who died in 1992, had said that Chatterjee was an intelligent actor and “given bad material, he turns out a bad performance”.

“Not a day passed when I do not think of Ray or discuss him or miss him. He is a constant presence in my life, if not for anything else but for the inspiration I derive when I think about him,” Chatterjee told an interviewer.

Chatterjee also played the romantic lead in popular Bengali films, but his appeal, say critics, was more limited than the reigning star, Uttam Kumar.

Over the years, Chatterjee worked with leading directors like Tapan Sinha, Mrinal Sen, Asit Sen, Ajoy Kar, Rituparno Ghosh and Aparna Sen. In 1988, he worked with John Hurt and Hugh Grant in The Bengali Night, a film set in Kolkata.

Adoor Gopalakrishnan, one of India’s greatest filmmakers, said that on screen, Chatterjee “became the quintessential Bengali – intellectually inclined, of middle-class orientation, sensitive and likeable

Outside films, Chatterjee was tirelessly creative: he edited a literary magazine, published more than 30 books of essays and poetry; acted, directed and wrote an equal number of plays; and painted.

One of his most successful plays, Ghatak Bidey, a comedy, ran for 500 nights. Chatterjee acted in a commercially successful Bengali adaption of King Lear, which many believe was one of his finest performances on stage.

For all his popularity, Chatterjee stayed away from Bollywood, preferring to act in Bengali language films.

“Soumitra is the finest actor in the land today, but totally unheard of outside Bengal. It’s a loss for India, Bollywood and I guess, a bit for Soumitra,” Pritish Nandy, poet, journalist and filmmaker, said of the actor in 2012.

Amitava Nag, author of a biography of the actor, says Chatterjee was “the thinking man’s hero. He was an intellectual and a poet”.

Nag once asked Chatterjee whether he felt burdened by the obligation to entertain.

“Very seldom. This is my job,” he said

INSIDE LIFE

sad bald man

When you see two young teenagers falling in love, it is your duty as an adult to talk to them. Most of the time they don’t have sense of their own; you have to lend them yours.

Immediately after my WAEC, I went for computer training in one of these road side computer schools.

There’s this girl, Charity, an O’ Level graduate, who was also taking the training.

After each training we’d stay behind and learn on our own.

As Charity and I became familiarized with each other, we fell in love ❤️

The guy who was tutoring us, Uncle Sam, was in his final year in the university as at that time.

One fateful day, Uncle Sam called me and said something that I’d never forget.

This was what he said, word for word:

“David! Being in a serious relationship with an opposite sex at this age is not a good idea. You have a great future, one mistake and you’d spend the rest of your life paying for it.”

The computer training center had two branches. Uncle Sam went to the extent of writing a transfer letter for me to move to the other center. He said I wouldn’t concentrate if I was seeing Charity everyday.

I bless the day I met Uncle Sam. People like him are not up to ten on this planet.

The following day I called Charity and told her I needed some space.

She tried to reach me for a while but all thanks to Uncle Samuel, I was able to put her away ?

Whenever we meet we’d just give each other a ‘Hi, how far’ greeting.

Today I stumbled on her pre-wedding photos.

By December she’s getting married to Uncle Sam ?

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s novel Half of a Yellow Sun has been voted the best book to have won the Women’s Prize for Fiction in its 25-year history.

The Nigerian-born author, who won the prize in 2007, was chosen in a public vote from a list of all 25 winners.

Other past winners include Zadie Smith, the late Andrea Levy, Lionel Shriver, Rose Tremain and Maggie O’Farrell.

The one-off award marks the anniversary of the prize, formerly known as the Orange Prize and the Bailey’s Prize.

Half of a Yellow Sun is set in Nigeria during the Biafran War, exploring the end of colonialism, ethnic allegiances, class, race and female empowerment. Published in 2006, it has received global acclaim.

It was made into a film starring Chiwetel Ejiofor and Thandie Newton in 2013.

Adichie said: “I’m especially moved to be voted Winner of Winners because this is the prize that first brought a wide readership to my work – and has also introduced me to the work of many talented writers.

She has received a silver edition of the prize’s annual statuette, known as the Bessie. Author and playwright Kate Mosse, the founder and director of the UK-based prize, congratulated Adichie and said she was “thrilled” Half of a Yellow Sun had won.

“Our aim has always been to promote and celebrate the classics of tomorrow today and to build a library of exceptional, diverse, outstanding international fiction written by women,” she said.

“The Reading Women campaign has been the perfect way to introduce a new generation of readers to the brilliance of all of our 25 winners and to honour the phenomenal quality and range of women’s writing from all over the world.”

It felt weird kissing on set. Billionaire, Femi Otedola’s daughter, Temi, has opened up on how she felt kissing Gabriel Afolayan, in the movie, Citation.

In an interview , the fashion enthusiast who just landed her first acting gig revealed that it felt weird kissing on screen, interestingly, her musician lover, Mr Eazi, has no problem with the kiss.

She said, “He knows that for me it is work at the end of the day and I would not have been able to take this role if I did not have that relationship with Koyejo (Gabriel Afolayan). He has always been supportive and I am really thankful for that.

“Honestly it was weird of course, on set, but everyone was made to feel comfortable and you just have to see it as work. There is real life and there is work. We tried to do those types of scenes especially the assault scenes as few times as possible because they could be emotionally draining.”

Meanwhile, commenting on the kiss his girlfriend shared with another man on screen, Mr Eazi in an exclusive chat simply said, ‘She was on the job.’
The singer said, “She was on the job so it was not Temi doing that, it was Moremi; so Moremi is different from Temi. I did not feel anyhow because she was on the job.

Mr Eazi continued, “Watching the movie, I felt awesomely proud; I felt super proud of her on her debut movie. It is a beautiful movie and she portrayed such am emotional role and seeing her be able to put it on screen. At some point, I remember I was sitting beside her and I asked, ‘who is this person I am seeing on the screen?’ because I was seeing a different Temi which just goes to show how good she was and I feel this is just the beginning. I am super proud of her.”
