“My biological father who has never seen me for 28 years just showed up on my door.”

My biological father who has never seen me for 28 years just showed up on my door. The man had garnered a lot of reactions from social media users of South Africa who can relate to him completely, this is a country where more than half of the people were abandoned by their up to no good fathers nor mothers for one reason or another.

Another tweep had shared that he too was abandoned by his father who showed up in his life later on mysteriously, he said that he told him to go to hell. Many people related to this and felt that he was in the right because the father had no reason to just show up and pretend as if everything is fine and expect everyone to act like nothing ever happened.

Many fathers are having dilemmas in their heads, whether to show up at their children’s door steps or not, well not with the advent of social media we would all collectively want to let them know not to even think about it for a second.

All those years they have been absent they never even once tried to show up until you are fully grown, and then expect you to act normal.

‘Obinna Wants To Kill Me Because I Refused To Marry Him’ – Beautiful Lady Criess Out On Facebook

Sometimes, there are some certain things that you will see happening in our every day and sometimes, you’ll be left dumbfounded as you may not know what to say.

Following another issue of some Nigerian men training up their future ‘bride-to-be’ in schools, a Nigerian lady has taken the popular social media platform Facebook to voice out her mind about an alleged Obinna, a man whom according to her trained her in school during her time as a student.

According to Mmachi Chi she stated that Obinna was nothing but her ex, stating that she has already ended everything with him, only for him to resurface again after hearing the news of her upcoming wedding and to gun her down (in a layman’s words, to kill her).

This 100 level student just went to school last month, but see what his hostel caretaker did to him

In a news that was posted by Punch Newspaper this morning, it has been alleged that men of the Imo State Police Command have launched a manhunt, for a hostel caretaker who killed 100 level student of Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Imo State that just resumed back to school last month for his academic activities.

According to the information that was posted, it was made known that the hostel caretaker demanded money for last year’s rent from the students occupying his hostel, and the students told him that they can’t pay the money or he should give them concession because, they didn’t use the hostel last year, due to the pandemic break.

After the caretaker, whose name hasn’t been gotten was told this, he insisted that they will all pay in full, as he disconnected the tap water from running and went out.

When he came back, he saw that the water had been connected back, and he became very angry and asked the students who did it, but got no reply, as they all told him they can’t stay in the hostel without water running.

Due to this, an argument later ensued between them and the caretaker took a sharp object and hit one of the students (Anthony Chinweotito) that was near him in the head, and he fell down immediately, as he picked another stick and hit the student several times till he became unconscious.

The caretaker however fled, after seeing the gravity of what he has done and the boy was rushed to Federal Medical Center in Owerri, where he was admitted for 5 days, before he gave up the ghost on Saturday night.

BUA has ordered 1million doses of Covid-19 vaccine

BUA Group has announced it purchased one million doses of Astra Zeneca Covid-19 vaccines to be distributed in Nigeria.

In a tweet on Monday, the group said the vaccines would be delivered next week.

It would be the first set of vaccines to be delivered since the onset of the pandemic.

The one million doses are “fully paid for”, the group added, as part of its corporate social responsibility.

“BUA commits to purchasing 5 million doses through the same arrangement in partnership with CACOVID/Afrexim Bank.”

BUA Group is one of the largest privately-owned conglomerates, with diversified interests in mining, manufacturing, food and agriculture.

In a statement, founder of BUA, Abdul Samad Rabiu, thanked the president of the Afrexim Bank, Benedict Oramah, for making the purchase possible and the Nigerian Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, for coordinating the process through the CACOVID Private Sector partnership.

“BUA decided to secure these 1million vaccines by paying the full amount for the vaccines today because these vaccines became available only last week through AFREXIM.

“We expect the vaccines to be delivered within the next 14 days and hope priority will be given to our frontline workers who have committed their lives to managing the pandemic.

“In addition to this, BUA is committing to purchase 5 million doses for Nigeria as soon as they become available through this same arrangement,” Rabiu added.

Good news for bitcoin lovers and investors

Elon Musk’s car firm Tesla has said it bought about $1.5bn (£1.1bn) of the cryptocurrency Bitcoin in January and expects to start accepting it as payment in future.

The news caused the price of Bitcoin to jump 17% to $44,220, a record high.

Tesla said it was trying to maximise returns on cash that is not being used in day-to-day running of the company.

It comes days after Mr Musk added “#bitcoin” to his Twitter profile page, which drove up the price.

He removed it days later, but has continued talking up Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, including Dogecoin, which jumped 50% after his endorsement.

In a stock market filing, Tesla said it “updated its investment policy” in January and now wanted to invest in “reserve assets” such as digital currencies, gold bullion or gold exchange-traded funds.

It said it had already bought $1.5bn of Bitcoin and could “acquire and hold digital assets” in the future.

“Moreover, we expect to begin accepting Bitcoin as a form of payment for our products in the near future, subject to applicable laws and initially on a limited basis,” it said.

Mr Musk said a week ago in a tweet that Bitcoin was “on the verge” of being more widely accepted among investors.

Some analysts said Tesla’s investment could be a game-changer for the cryptocurrency.

“I think we will see an acceleration of companies looking to allocate to Bitcoin now that Tesla has made the first move,” said Eric Turner, vice-president of market intelligence at cryptocurrency research firm Messari.

“One of the largest companies in the world now owns Bitcoin and by extension, every investor that owns Tesla, or even just an S&P 500 fund, has exposure to it as well.”

But Neil Wilson, chief market analyst for Markets.com, warned that Bitcoin was a “very volatile” cryptocurrency.

“Tesla is now starting to take on big [foreign exchange] risk – this may not worry a lot of investors, but some conservative types might be concerned,” he said.

Bitcoin, which has hit record highs in recent months after a rollercoaster ride over the past decade, has also drawn support from major financial institutions this year.

The world’s biggest money manager, Blackrock, recently changed a handful of investment mandates to allow some of its funds to invest in the currency.

However, central banks remain sceptical of digital currencies.

In October, Bank of England governor Andrew Bailey cautioned over Bitcoin’s use as a payment method.

“I have to be honest, it is hard to see that Bitcoin has what we tend to call intrinsic value,” he said. “It may have extrinsic value in the sense that people want it.”

Mr Bailey added that he was “very nervous” about people using Bitcoin for payments, pointing out that investors should realise its price was extremely volatile.

SAD: Igbo Man Gets Little Donation After Spending 27 Years In Prison For A Crime He Didn’t Commit

It took Sunday Igboho supporters just five days to raise a whopping sum of N17 million. But it’s a different story for an Igbo man who was released since 2019 after spending 27 years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit.

Back then in the late 80’s Clinton Kanu was an hard-working 26 -year old man who owned two residential buildings, cars and was living a good life. Today, he lives in a tiny apartment, has no car, no job, not even a wife or a child.

In 1992, his life turned upside down when he was arrested and sentenced to death for murder. He spent 27 years behind bars for a crime he didn’t commit. During his years in prison, Clinton Kanu attempted to commit suicide thrice but it wasn’t successful. His failed suicide attempts made him realized God was with him and that one day he would be set free. During his years in prison, he lost his dear mother, brother and uncle.

After 27 years behind bars, the Supreme Court of Nigeria declared that there was no convincing evidence to prove that Clinton Kanu was guilty of murder and was set free in April 2019. Unfortunately, he was released without compensation.

Since his release in 2019, Kanu has been trying to get his life back but it hasn’t be easy. He demanded N20 billion compensation from the Federal Government and Imo State Government for the damages done to his business and health but it has been fruitless.

In April 2020, A GoFundMe account was set up for him by Joseph Opadele, an ordained pastor in Christ Apostolic Church to help his rehabilitation. The target of was $25,000. (9.5 million) but since April 2020 till date, only $165 (N62,000) has been donated to help this man.

It’s quite sad that people can donate N17 million in five days to Sunday Igboho, a man who seems to be instigating ethnic crisis. Whereas someone is trying to find a way to get his life back has gotten only N62,000 since 11 months.

What a pity! This is simply a case of misplaced priorities. Some people are more interested in setting Nigeria on fire than helping each other.

Girl, 3, ‘beaten to death by adoptive parents’ laid to rest in emotional funeral

A three-year-old girl who was allegedly beaten to death by her adoptive mum and her partner has been laid to rest in an emotional funeral.

Victoria Rose Smith, from South Carolina, US, is said to have been killed by her adoptive parents Ariel Robinson, 29, and Jerry Robinson, 34, on January 14, police say.

Ariel, who won season 20 of Food Network’s Worst Cooks in America show last August, and Jerry, are accused of inflicting multiple blunt force injuries on Victoria, resulting to her death.

Last Friday, Victoria’s biological family buried her in a church graveyard in Travelers Rest, South Carolina, local newspaper The State  reports.

Her biological mother, Casie Phares, was seen placing a teddy bear at her daughter’s grave during the funeral, as some of her previous foster parents looked on.

Victoria, who was described as “sassy and smart”, had been placed in the Robinsons’ home by the South Carolina Department of Social Services in March last year with her two older brothers, a Change.org petition said.

They were being fostered by the couple until they recently adopted Victoria, police said.

It is not clear if any of the other children in the home had been abused.

Victoria was found unresponsive in the home on January 14, and was taken to the Greenville Memorial Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

The couple were arrested and taken to Greenville County Detention Center where they were held without bond.

Both now face a charge of “homicide by child abuse” and, if convicted, face sentences of 20 years or life in prison.

“I didn’t sleep with her, my sister is trying to set me up” 68-year-old man arrested by police says

In a news that was posted by The Nation Newspaper yesterday night, it was alleged that an old man who is just 68 years of age, was arrested by men of the Anambra State Police Command for forcefully sleeping with his younger sister’s 7-year-old child and during parade, the accused man told press that it was a set up to defame him and imprison him.

According to the information that was given by the old man, he made it known that the mother of the person who accused him was his younger sister and that, she was already married but, she had problem in her matrimonial home and due to that, she begged him to give her a room in his own house and he did.

However, when the old man whose name was given as Linus Onuzulike was accused of forcefully sleeping with his 7 year old niece, he said he told the girl’s mother that they will all go to police station the next morning, so that they can conduct proper test on the minor, but her mother took her away from the house that evening and came the next morning along with police to arrest him.

The old man said, he didn’t do anything to his niece, as her mother is trying to set him up because they had little issue between to them.

Former Heavyweight Champion dies @67

Former world heavyweight champion Leon Spinks has died aged 67.

The American achieved a famous upset win over Muhammad Ali in 1978, in just his eighth professional fight.

He had suffered with health issues in his later years and was diagnosed with advanced stage prostate cancer in 2019.

“His final fight was fought with the same skill, grace and grit that had carried him through so many lifetime challenges,” said a statement from his management company.

The former US marine died on Friday evening in Henderson, Nevada, with his wife Brenda Glur Spinks by his side.

“Leon fought his battle with numerous illnesses resiliently, never losing his trademark smile. Showing true Spinks determination, he never threw in the towel,” the statement added.

Born in St Louis, Spinks won gold at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal, then rose to greater prominence a little more than 18 months later, given the nod via a split decision to stun Ali and claim the WBC, WBA and lineal heavyweight titles.

In one of the biggest upsets in the history of the sport, Spinks defied his 10-1 underdog odds with bookmakers to prevail after 15 rounds, winning 145-140 and 144-141 on two scorecards while a third went 143-142 in favour of Ali.

His reign as world champion lasted exactly seven months as a sharper and fitter Ali gained revenge in a rematch in September 1978, becoming the first three-time lineal heavyweight champion after a comfortable points win.

Spinks did get another opportunity for heavyweight glory in June 1981, but was stopped inside three rounds by Larry Holmes.

Spinks then dropped down to cruiserweight but was defeated by WBA champion Dwight Muhammad Qawi in 1986. He boxed on for another nine years and finished with a record of 26 wins, 17 defeats and three draws.

Known for his gap-toothed grin, Spinks’ battles in the ring contributed to his ill health in later life. It was found he had shrinkage in the brain in 2012 before his cancer diagnosis was confirmed a few years later.

His son Cory, 42, is a former undisputed welterweight champion who also won a world title in the light-middleweight division.

Spinks’ younger brother Michael, 64, was undisputed light-heavyweight champion for a period in the 1980s, before moving up to heavyweight, where he won the IBF title and avenged Leon’s loss to Holmes.
