Drake loses $565,000 after betting on Tyson Fury to beat Usyk

Canadian rapper, Drake, has lost $565,000 after betting on Tyson Fury to beat Oleksandr Usyk.

It is yet another big-money gambling loss for Drake.

Before the fight, Drake revealed on Instagram that he had gambled $565,000 on Fury to win.

If Fury had won, he would have collected just over $1million.

But Usyk beat Fury by split decision in Saudi Arabia to become the first undisputed heavyweight boxing champion in 24 years.

Usyk has now added Fury’s WBC title to his own WBA, IBF and WBO belts.

Drake previously lost a six-figure sum after Anthony Joshua’s knockout win over Francis Ngannou, and another $700,000 after Dricus Du Plessis beat Sean Strickland at UFC 297.

It’s disrespectful for man to split bills with his partner – BBNaija Sheggz

Big Brother Naija reality show star, Segun Olusemo, aka Sheggz, has said that it is disrespectful for a man to share financial responsibility with his partner.

Featuring on the ‘Bahd And Boujee’ podcast, Sheggz argued that a woman can contribute to paying bills in her home but it would be disrespectful for her to make equal contributions as the man.

Sheggz, who is currently dating his colleague, Bella, noted that in his own case, his woman contributes about 20 percent, while he handles the remaining 80 percent.

He said, “I don’t want my babe paying my bills or paying her own bills because it’s going to be disrespectful.

“By the way, I go for women that work really hard. In my situation, my woman works really hard and she is actually successful but I understand that my money is our money and her money is her money.

“And honestly, if she gives me peace in my home, I’m okay with that.

“No 50/50 in my home. My house is 80/20. I wouldn’t say 100 percent because that is very unfair.

“When my woman spends her money, she won’t feel bad because she doesn’t do it all the time. I feel like as men we are wired to provide.”

Grammy-winning singer Burna Boy has said 2Baba, Timaya, D’banj, Larry Gaaga, and Wande Coal are the only veterans he respects in the Nigerian music industry.

According to the self-acclaimed ‘African Giant,’ they are the only legends who have impacted his life and career.

Burna Boy stated this while reacting to veteran producer ID Cabasa’s recent call on Nigerian singers, urging them to respect legends.

During a recent Instagram live session with fans, he said: “The only OGs who have impacted my life; number one, Timaya, because he is the one who showed me that achieving stardom was possible. I’m going to respect him for the rest of my life.

“D’banj also supported me back then. He paid for ‘Wan Da Mo’ video. These are two people I don’t joke with. It’s not like nggas don’t have respect, no, nggas have just been through a lot and we only remember the people we saw in the dark times. People like Larry Gaaga. He stood by me back then. So these are people I will respect for the rest of my life.

“When you’re talking about OGs, as far as I’m concerned, those names are the only ones in addition to 2Face based on musicality and the fact that he did a feature with me when he didn’t have to back in the days. These are OGs to me. Any other person isn’t an OG to me. ID Cabasa, you can meet Olamide and you can be an OG to him [laughs]. We’ve all been through stuff differently and we all see life differently.

“I can’t forget Wande Coal, too. At a point in time, we were so close.”

Celebrities comfort Funke Akindele after major AMVCA snub

Popular Nigerian actress, Funke Akindele, may not have taken home an award at this year’s Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, but she has received a wave of support from fellow celebrities and fans who offered her words of encouragement.

Funke Akindele’s A Tribe of Judah lost all of its nominations at the 2024 AMVCA.

This was particularly surprising for some as Akindele’s record-breaking film, “A Tribe Called Judah,” secured nominations in several categories, including Best Movie, Best Lead Actress (Akindele herself), Best Supporting Actor, Best Writing in a Movie, and Best Makeup.

Despite the nominations, “A Tribe Called Judah” ultimately went home empty-handed. This sparked a flurry of reactions online; however, Akindele’s industry peers chose to uplift her spirits.

Similarly, ‘A Tribe of Judah’, which made history by becoming the first Nollywood film to gross N1 billion within 21 days of its release, lost to Breath of Life in the Best Movie category.

She argued that she grew up without a father figure in her life and was never sexually loose.

Korra Obidi travels to Hawaii for vacation after fans donated $50,000 for legal fee

Nigerians across social media have begun to slam popular Nigerian-American singer and dancer, Korra Obidi, as she flew immediately to Hawaii in the United States after completing her GoFundMe $50,000 target.

Obidi created GoFundMe on Friday to seek a good lawyer, adding that she wants to overturn the right of her ex-husband, Justin Dean, over their kids.

According to her, she would need money to get a good lawyer, which is why she created the GoFundMe account to meet the target of $100,000.

The account generated over $50,000 raised from over 950 donors worldwide.

“As a mother, it’s time to fight for myself and my kids,” Obidi said. She also shared her GoFundMe account details, seeking the assistance of fans and friends.

However, on Sunday, the dancer, after raising the money, said during a live session on Facebook that she had plans for a vacation in Hawaii.

Her decision has been greeted by outrage from her fans, with many alleging that the main intent of the GoFundMe was never to file a suit against the husband but to lavish on her extravagant lifestyle.

Wanda Johnson, a Facebook user, said, “She got y’all’s money, now she’s at the airport. Some of you are so weak to believe her foolishness. She is always begging, scamming, and manipulating.”

“You are gradually becoming a professional beggar on social media,” one Chigoziri Ohochukwu on Facebook opined.

Comedienne Real Warri Pikin tackles Abuja single men

Nigerian comedienne, Anita Asuoha, popularly known as Real Warri Pikin, has challenged single men in Abuja for refusing to get married.

Real Warri Pikin lamented that despite the ladies being ready for marriage, many men are not willing to get married but prefer to have baby mamas.

She added that many of them claimed they were not emotionally available to settle down.

The comedienne stated this in a recent video she made and shared on her social media accounts.

She stressed that she is overwhelmed with so many reports from people in the state about the messy dating pool.

Speaking in pidgin English, the comedienne asked, “Abuja men, what is happening to the dating pool in Abuja? I hear say na una dey scatter am. Abuja men, wetin dey happen. You people are not ready to get married and committed. You’ll just see a responsible girl wey dey live her life, wey dey do her 5 to 9, dey do her thing and wan turn am to baby mama.”

Have a baby for me. Na laboratory? Na chemical solution? Abuja men, the information reaching me is that you people don’t want to settle down and the girls are ready.”

Speaking further, she said despite the desire of women in Abuja to settle down, the men remained steadfastly opposed to the idea of marriage.

“The girls are ready to get married but the only thing you tell them is it’s not you, it’s me. I can not love you the way that you deserve right now. I’m emotionally available right now. But you’re available to use the girl for ground. Wetin dey sup. You never tire to dey outside? Waist no dey belefu person oo.

“You’ve been outside for too long and these girls are complaining. They are ready but you said no, you’re outside, saying marriage is a trap. Una don redefine marriage. God’s own institution, una don redefine am. That is the narrative and the agenda wey dem dey push.”

She noted that there are many people including her that are enjoying the marriages, adding that she met her husband in Abuja.

“We many wey dey enjoy marriage. Wetin dey happen Abuja men. No be to wear native dey waka dey look up. You dey frustrate these girls. You go see serious girlfriend dey follow you dey do, dey understand with you, dey respect you.

Actress Wofai Fada reveals real age amidst wedding controversy

Actress and comedian, Wofai Fada, has marked her 34th birthday amidst controversies surrounding her recent engagement with Taiwo Cole.

Fada took to her Instagram page on Saturday to celebrate her birthday with photos.

She wrote, “This particular month is so special to me because it emphasises the essentials of a happy life, laughter, love, and adventure. “THIS IS 34👅. Happy birthday, Ekpe! Yatata!

In the statement issued by the family patriarch, Kunle Cole, the family dissociated themselves from the union, saying they were unaware of the marriage plans and did not grant consent or support.

I always wanted to be an actor- Singer Tiwa Savage

Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage is known as the “Queen of Afrobeats” but now she’s momentarily hanging up her microphone to make her acting debut in the new film, Water & Garri.

The film now showing on Amazon Prime follows a young woman called Aisha, played by Tiwa Savage, an ambitious fashion designer who returns home to Nigeria after 10 years in the United States.

Although the Grammy-nominated singer has enchanted people with her buttery smooth voice, she told the BBC Focus on Africa podcast that acting was always a path she wanted to pursue.

“I have so much respect for actors now. It’s long hours and you’re becoming someone else for a long period of time,” she said.

She told the BBC it was not “easy”.

But Tiwa Savage brought the character to life by channelling parts of herself and her mother.

“She bottles up things a lot and she might just explode one day,” she said.

Aside from acting, she was also an executive producer on the film.

The songstress said she watched at least 200 edits before they decided on the final cut.

It “was a lot of work”, she added. While the film may be new, inspiration comes from her 2021 EP of the same name.

The movie was initially meant to be the accompanying video on the project, but she said when they started filming “it was so good” they decided to make it into a feature-length film.

But the music from the EP doesn’t feature in the movie as Tiwa Savage said she was no longer in the same “headspace”.

So she began recording new songs for the movie while they were shooting and managed to finish the score for the film within a week.

Songs for the film’s soundtrack feature other Nigerian stars like Olamide and Grammy-nominated singer Ayra Starr.

While the stunning cinematography, the dynamic soundtrack and Tiwa Savage’s performance breathe life into the movie, the heart of the film is the theme of nostalgia.

“There is a nostalgic feeling when you think of water and garri. We used to eat that a lot growing up,” she said.

She added that garri, which is processed cassava, and water are unusual combinations, but when they are mixed together it makes something beautiful.

Actor Segun Arinze urges EFCC to follow due process in prosecuting Yahaya Bello

Nollywood actor Segun Arinze has charged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to ensure that it follows due process in prosecuting the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.

The anti-graft agency is prosecuting Bello alongside his nephew, Ali Bello, Dauda Suleiman and Abdulsalam Hudu on a 19-count charge bordering on money laundering to the tune of N80 billion.

Reacting in a video message shared via his Instagram account, Arinze said the ongoing social media trial of Bello was unnecessary.

He urged the EFCC to follow due process by allowing the law take its course.

He said, “I have been observing the things that have been going on with the EFCC and Yahaya Bello saga and it has been quite dramatic.

“First, the EFCC came out with a lot of statements on social media and in the news about the bulged arrest of Yahaya Bello and of course, the amount of dollars he paid into his children’s school account. It’s not enough to say the money came from the government but if it’s substantiated, it’s damming.

“I’m not saying Yahaya Bello is innocent or guilty. I don’t even have much details about that. What I’m bother about is social media. If social media haven’t dragged you before, you won’t understand. Too many opinions on social media with all the feeds coming out from the EFCC and generally, it just bring a lot of negativity on both sides.

“What I’m saying is, social media parliament is not the Nigerian judiciary. It can’t make any decision. As I am made to understand, the case is already in court. So my advice is that EFCC should follow due process. Let the law take its course. That’s my personal opinion.”
