Man in shock as his landlord increases rent days after he ranted on social media about Lagos landlords

A Nigerian man was taken by surprise when his Landlord decided to increase the rent just days after a social media rant.

The man identified as Olumide GlowVille, said he had made a post targeted at Lagos landlords few days ago and was shocked when he received an increment notice.

In the letter he shared on Facebook, which was communicated by his landlord’s lawyers, Olumide was being notified that his 2 bedroom flat rent had increased from N450,000 to N550,000.

And the new increment was excluding security and cleaners salaries. The house in question is reportedly located in Lagos.

A stunned Olumide said he rather would laugh about the development.

He shared a photo of the letter and wrote; “I made a post about Landlords this week and I got this memo from my Landlord tonight. “This is too outrageous to get me angry. I’d rather laugh about it. “Canada ti ya o.”

Actress, Oloruntimilehin Bukola, popularly known as Kiitan Bukola, has revealed that her rape ordeal at the age of 10 had a long-term effect on her sexual life.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, she said, “I cannot remember what age I started taking alcohol but I started drinking beer in secondary school. My mom did not know about this habit and my father did not live with us. Drinking is an addiction for me. I find it difficult to make love without getting high, because of my rape ordeal. That way, I can do whatever I want. Also, I have to really share a close bond with my partner before I can get intimate.

Sometimes, I feel irritated, angry and paranoid for no reason. I still get flashes from the incident. I can picture his face clearly. However, I am really trying my best to stop my drinking habit. People close to me know that I always have (alcoholic) drinks around me.

“I did not want to tell anyone my story at that time because of the fear of being stigmatised or ridiculed. That was what prompted me to make a movie about my experience 23 years later. I want victims to have the courage to speak out. The incident happened at Oke Bola in Ado Ekiti.

“Meanwhile, I had another bad experience with a guy some years back. We were in a long-distance relationship but he came to Nigeria after a while. I had gone to see my mum in Ondo State and he was in Akure (the state capital) at the time. We spent some time together and when it was getting late, I asked him to drop me at the park. However, he cajoled me and we stayed back in his house.

He tried to have sex with me and when I refused, he slapped me very hard. I told him it was the time of my menstrual cycle. But, he insisted that he wanted to confirm. He later confirmed and apologised. I did not sleep till 5am when I left his house the next day. This happened in 2006 or 2008. I have been more careful since then.”

The actress who urged victims to speak out regardless of when the incident happened also said she wished she met her rapist before he died. She added, “When I told my rape story on social media, I found out that the guy had died. I was told he was killed during a robbery. I was hoping to meet him and I would have paid him back for what he did to me.

Excessive use of social media kills destiny – Bishop Oyedepo warns youths

Founder of Living Faith Church worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo has admonished youths against the excessive use of social media.

Oyedepo, who is the Chancellor of Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, gave the warning on Friday, May 21, during the 15th Convocation Ceremony and Conferment of Honourary Doctorate Degrees and presentation of prizes at the school.

The cleric noted that the negative impact of social media on youths could not be overemphasised, as it makes them lose focus and rob them of their destinies.

In his words; “The social media saga has eroded the substance of destiny as it has unconsciously robbed youths of their future and their time.

“The honour of this generation has been wiped off, chatting all day with no time left to think, plan programme and engage productively in the pursuit of any task.

“Some professionals have classified social media addiction along with drugs, alcohol and sex.

“Social media that is supposed to be a plus to the youth, suddenly became a minus, as everything of value is delivered through investment of time”.

He noted that life without a vision was an adventure in frustration and that life without a bearing was a burden.

According to the Chancellor, only those who know where they are going ever get anywhere.

“No one ever arrives at a future he cannot see, neither does anyone arrive at a future he is not prepared for.

“It is time for every youth to wake up from slumber and take his/her destiny in their hands,” he added.

Oyedepo further advised youths to get out of the nest by engaging in strategic planning as everyone was absolutely responsible for the outcome of his or her life.
