A soldier has taken his own life after he shot dead a customs officer at Seme border in Lagos State, Daily Trust reports.
The incident reportedly happened Wednesday night.
A source who did not be named, said the incident took many by surprise.
“It’s possible that the soldier was under the influence of alcohol because no one expected him to behave in such a strange manner,” the source said.
PRO, Seme Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Abdullahi Hussain confirmed the incident, saying the soldier took his life after killing the customs officer.

Five more residents of Imo State who were wrongly arrested and paraded by the State Police Command have reportedly been released from custody.
This follows the release of Ibe Casmir Ibegbulem, an oil worker who was one of those wrongly arrested and falsely labelled as unknown gunmen terrorising the state.
According to Sahara Reporters, sources said that five others were also on Thursday night released after the report.
They were released on Thursday night from the Imo State Police Headquarters. The five newly freed citizens are Smith Amadikwa, Casmir Ugbor, Ojukwu Ukonu, Emeka Mbonu and Engineer Ikechukwu Okomah.
They were wrongly arrested between May 12 and 19 and labelled as ‘ESN (Eastern Security Network) hoodlums that attacked Imo State Correctional/Prisons Headquarters and others,”one of the sources said.
Recall that Igbegbulam was the first to be reported released on Thursday, May 3, 2021.
Human rights activist, Gwanshu Harrison, confirmed that the state police command had released Ibegbulem after the outcry by the media and pressure from civil society groups.
“Ibegbulem, who was arrested by Imo State Police Command as one of the #UGM (Unknown Gunmen), has been released. He was transferred to Force Headquarters, Abuja two days after our online protest. Currently, I don’t know the whereabouts of others in this picture. Thanks to @PoliceNG_CRU,” he tweeted.

Ghanaian actress and former HIV/AIDS ambassador, Joyce Dzidzor Mensah has set social media abuzz after she tested positive for HIV on Facebook live.
The actress went public with the test to prove that she is not a carrier of the disease, but it ended badly as the test came back positive.
According to reports from Ghanaian media, Mensah admitted to being HIV-positive in 2019 but following attacks and stigmatization, she repeatedly denied having the virus.
To further clear doubting Thomases, Joyce held a press conference in Ghana which was attended by several media houses and took the test in their presence.
When the results came out, she tested positive for the virus while her kids – one boy and one girl – tested negative.

Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, says corp members are part of the national defence policy of Nigeria and can be mobilised for war if need be.
Ibrahim made this known when he appeared as a guest on Channels TV’s ‘Sunrise Daily’ programme on Wednesday while reacting to moves to scrap the NYSC scheme which is compulsory for all Nigerians who graduate before the age of 30.
The NYSC boss said, “Corp members are on reserve. They are part of the national defence policy of this country. So, where there is serious war, our corps members are educated, they are knowledgeable and they can be trained. You see the drill and so on.
“You can imagine within the short three weeks in the orientation camps, the corps members are moulded. They are like soldiers. You see female corps members blowing the army horn, playing with the military band.
So, if not for the knowledge, where are you going to mobilise such young Nigerians to train them quickly to put in their best for the country? So, corps members are on reserve. They are also part of the national defence policy.”
He said the NYSC is concerned about the security of corp members and that is why they had been advised not to move around at night.
Ibrahim argued that the NYSC had become more important than ever in the face of the rising calls for secession.
The NYSC boss stated that he had advised corps members not to travel outside the state or the country without the permission of the state coordinator.
He added that corps members had been urged not to travel after 6pm and they are free to sleep at any corpers’ lodge while travelling.
Ibrahim said corp members had played a huge role in educating children in Internally Displaced Persons’ camps.
The NYSC boss maintained that the insecurity in the country was not enough reason to scrap the scheme, adding that till date, 75 per cent of corp members are still serving in rural areas across the country.

An Indian bride died at the venue of her wedding and the ceremony continued with the groom marrying her younger sister.
The bride, who has been identified as Surabhi, died of a heart attack during her wedding ceremony in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh, India.
Following her sudden death in the presence of family and wedding guests, the families laid her body in the room next door as her groom worked on his backup plan.
According to eyewitnesses, groom, Manjesh Kumar was in the middle of exchanging vows with his fiancée, Surabhi, when she died in front of him.
Doctors rushed to her side but despite their best efforts, she was pronounced dead of cardiac arrest moments later, local media reports.
However, Surabhi’s uncle Ajab Singh told news agency IANS that the families made the decision to have Kumar wed her younger sister, Nisha, instead, which he claims was a “tough call” for them.
He said: “One daughter lay dead in one room and the wedding of another daughter was being solemnised in the other room. We have never witnessed such mixed emotions.
“The grief over her death and the happiness of the wedding have yet to sink in.”
Surabhi’s brother, Saurabh, added that they did not know what to do in the situation at first.
He said: “Both the families sat together and someone suggested that my younger sister Nisha should be married to the groom. The families discussed the matter and both agreed.”
The story has since gone viral on social media, with an image of sisters Surabhi and Nisha on the day of the wedding emerging.

Nigerian rapper, Azeez Fashola aka Naira Marley has reacted to reports of a proposal seeking the change of the country’s name from Nigeria to United African Republic.
The House of Representatives’ Special Committee on Constitution Review on Wednesday, received a proposal from Adeleye Jokotoye, a tax consultant, to change Nigeria’s name.
While presenting the proposal to the committee at the South West Zonal Public Hearing in Lagos on June 2, 2021, he said Nigeria’s current name was an imposition of its past colonial masters and should be changed.
According to Jokotoye, a change of name for the country would physically and psychologically reflect a new beginning.
At this crossroads in our history, it is mandatory that we change our name to reflect a new beginning which will be ushered in with a new constitution,” he said.
Reacting to the news, Naira Marley took to his social media page to welcome the idea, saying that he would compose the new national anthem.

Famous Nigerian Magician, Babs Cardini recently astonished many as he turned water into wine on live Television.
He put on a magic performance on Rubbing Minds programe hosted by Ebuka Obi Uchendu.
Babs Cardini who was on the programme as a guest told Ebuka that he could magically turn water into wine. He told Ebuka that he was going to replicate what Jesus did at the wedding in Cana as recorded in the Bible.
Ebuka was skeptical and told him to proceed. Babs, brought out a bottle of water and a glass cup. He then asked Ebuka if he would be fascinated seeing him turn water into wine, Ebuka said yes.
He then poured some water from the bottled water into the water and immediately, it changed colour like that of a wine.
Ebuka was stupefied over what happened but Babs was unbothered. He gladly took a sip from the glass and passed it across to Ebuka who quickly rejected it politely.
Babs chuckled because he sensed that Ebuka was scared. Ebuka later told him to pass the glass across to him, which he did. Ebuka took the glass of wine and examined it before giving it back to him.
Rising artist Wisdom, signed to DaBaby’s Billion Dollar Baby Entertainment label, has been arrested for attempted murder in connection to a recent shooting in Miami’s South Beach area.
According to police records obtained by XXL on Wednesday morning (June 2), the rapper, born Wisdom Awute, 21, and another man named Christopher Urena, 29, were taken into custody by Miami Beach police Tuesday (June 1) following the shooting that transpired near the tourist strip’s Prime 112 restaurant on 1st Street and Ocean Drive. Of the two people who sustained injuries, one was shot in the leg. The other was shot in the upper right rear torso, remains hospitalized and is paralyzed.
A rep for the Miami Beach Police Department told XXL in a statement today: “In less than 24 hours, Miami Beach detectives were able to ensure those responsible for the shooting were arrested and charged. We will now work closely with the State Attorney’s Office to ensure a successful prosecution.”

A young man in Ghana has gotten himself in an interesting situation after deciding to order a sofa he saw online going for a ridiculously low price.
Adu Kabena Alfred, a friend to the gentleman, indicated that the sofa was displayed on Jumia for (GHc 150) N10,000 and the young man took the opportunity to place an order for it.
